Inspired and entertained a few generations of musicians and listeners alike, this harks back to his days with the great organist Jimmy Smith. His straight instrumentation quintets and sextets etc.are classic gems as well. LIVE in POWER Mr.Donaldson!
I have 15 records of LOU and I think Doctor was the best Hammond player of all time! Rest in Peace Dr! Hope future generations will also love these masterpieces.
It's September 1`5, 2024 (My Pops was born on this day). Anyway, Mr Lou Donaldson is still with us on the planet earth at 97 years old! He's on my top 10 alto sax players ever!
Was so lucky to see both Dr.Lonnie -an Lou will always have both in wonderfully music memories thanks both masters 🎶🎶🎷🎹🎹🙌🏻🙌🏻RIP, dr lonnie smith 🎶🎶🙏🏿🙏🏼
Man that Lonnie Smith was absolutely smoking. With his on stage persona, I could easily see Lou Donaldson having done a Vegas residency if jazz was a more popular genre.
Bravo to the NPR crew for wonderful video and audio production. I recorded a lot of live jazz for NPR 50 years ago! Saxophonists and live sound engineers ought to be paying a LOT of attention to how they miked Lou, how he worked the mic, and how GREAT he sounded! Shoving mic into the bell of a sax is NOT where it's at!
I was lucky enough to see these guys at the Jazz Cage in the early 200's. I was suprised then to see Lou Donaldson still alive and active. I thought that I was very privileged to see him and Dr Lonnie Smith playing together. I must say even though they market themselves as straight ahead jazz bop and bluesy type musicians, that night they played some funk. The funk that was coming from Dr Smith's organ was phenomenal. However it was masked , put into a jazz context, but you could here the raw funk, it was amazing. Amazing.
Lou and jazz promoter Joe Segal (Chicago's Jazz Showcase) must be having a laugh in heaven. If you ever heard them introduce the music before a show, you know what I am talking about!
You clap anyway bcuz he's famous but surely u don't understand! If he were CHINESE singing that way w/ American accent you would still clap 😢 right! That's the problems! It's about being the best! He's cool but this show is not cool bcuz u clappers r haters surely. If he was Mexican or from Nigeria SINGING that way good & all y'all's still clap bcuz he sounds good RIGHT?
Music trends come and go over the years.
The blues will always remain.
Jazz, the word you looking for is jazz.
11/13/2024: I'm checking in to hear this genius of a musician. REST IN POWER !!!
Rest in peace lou Donaldson a sad lost to the jazz world one of the finest alto saxophone players will be missed 😢
Love Lou's sense of humour. Still with us and now into his 90's - a remarkable man

That organ player sure looks weird. He looks like one of those judges who is about to sentence you to be stoned to death.
He kinda looks like Dr. Lonnie Smith
he is sentencing you, to be Hammoned !
Pretty sure he is Sikh (not Muslim) ......
dude - you don't know Dr Lonnie? Man..... well.... time to educate yourself a bit
@@whitstable11 He just looks like one.
