Your grandson was a cutie! I would have given all your crocheted items a score of 5 stars though! I have not explanation as to why viewers would ever unsubscribe from your channel! Thanks for all your tips and I love learning about you and viewing scenes of your travels to different places, too!
I'm glad you have turned your least performing videos into compilations😊. There's always someone who will appreciate your work😊. I definitely know I do😊.
Thank you for commenting! The thing is, TH-cam is what I live on, I suppose many viewers don't realise that. So I need to think of the audience before everything. If TH-cam was just a hobby, then it would be possible to concentrate on all the things I enjoy myself. But of course, I don't make content I don't like or enjoy making, and even do things like using my favourite colours in all my samples.
I love your videos! The one with the flowers was beautiful now I'm trying to think what to make with them. And your grandson is so cute 😍 He reminds me of my little brother when we were kids. He had red hair and a handsome face too!❤ I watch your channel to see you as well as crochet. I find you interesting and it's fun to see someone you feel you're getting to know travel around while we sit home in our mundane lives 😅 I am 62 and could see being friends with you. Good luck with your channel I hope it grows and grows 🌷🌻🪻
Thank you so much! Lovely to hear that you find my channel interesting also apart from crochet! I can't remember if I have mentioned my exact age in videos - so did you know that I'm the same age or just mention that as you would see I would be around that!!
I have found myself unsubscribed to channels I subscribed to years ago. Perhaps the unsubscribed were a glitch. I can’t even imagine anyone subscribing to your channel and then unsubscribing. Your tutorials are precise and easy to follow. You are charming and so pleasant. I have learned much from you. I will admit, I may pick up what I need and not watch through out, but I appreciate all you do. The visits, that are not crocheting are fun, I enjoy learning more about you as a person. Your grandson is precious. I saw the original. 😊 Much love to you. ❤ Oh, the last one, perhaps showing projects using the flower. I am thinking even monotone would be pretty. Like a poncho or shawl made up of a single color of flower connected to make the fabric. Blessings 🕊💕🕯😇🙏🏻💚. I was thinking, the flower is not the traditional flower, that many maybe looking for. It is more Art Deco style, for lack of a better term. Your instructions were perfect. You are always clear and precise in your instructions, and the camera picks every detail.
Thank you so much, thank you for sharing! So glad that you find my tutorials clear 💜 True, could have shown a project wit those flowers. I like them a lot myself but then that doesn't guarantee that others like something too! Happy crocheting!
I haven't seen any of these videos, I suppose they were before I found your channel . But I enjoyed seeing them, I do like a mix of lessons in crochet and seeing how you live, both are very interesting . I suppose you can't please all the people all the time! Your grandson is lovely, it was nice to see him.
I'm not sure why people don't watch these videos. I'll admit I would probably watch part of the rug video but since I don't have an interest in making it I wouldn't watch it all. I like when channel's I subscribe to show me other things they do because it exposes me to new ideas. I don't know how I missed you flower video. I plan on making it. I do think showing a project with it might have been helpful for viewers. I have learned SO much watching you. I live learning a bit more about you, where you live and places you go. Also other channels I've watched have referenced your videos. Keep the videos coming I LOVE them ❤
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoy much of my content, also I didn't know that other channels would reference me! I have very slowly started to show more about myself, the next stage probably is to start doing live videos to have more instant contact with those who watch!
Miss Tuula I have no clue why they would unsub on the flowers. I liked them different than the usual ones you see. I loved the one with Daniel, I also like learning different things about my fave utubers. People are crazy 😂 like that song says. I have been crocheting since I was 8 and I'm 63 now. I have learned a lot from you. And I appreciate you. Blessings and much love
@@gray-hairedmama5421 TH-cam regularly closes down unused or spam accounts but that doesn't show on an individual video. But good thinking, it could have been that!
I enjoyed all of these videos, it’s the first time I’ve seen them. None were a reason to unsubscribe in my opinion. Your grandson is very sweet. Please add Australia to your list of viewers this is where I live
Glad to know, thank you! I went to see how many Australian watch my channel, and in the last year Australia has actually the 5th largest number of viewers! US, UK, India, Canada, Australia, Philippines, Germany, South Africa, Italy, Finland, Netherlands, France etc.
Well shoot! I'm guessing that there would be many of us who would love a pattern for this, or similar! No pressure lol. The half circle, shirt tail bottom just perfect!! Steph 😊
Hi Tuula, i absolutely love your videos, i very rarely get notifications, have never seen any of these videos. TH-cam plays games, sometimes all of a sudden i am subscribed to someone that i did not subscribe myself and other times i get unsubscribed to someone i watch all the time . I love the flower, it is pretty. I also love to see all the places you visit. The wall hanging is very similar to latch hook rugs. The one you were doing looks more like a sewing stitch, i am not too good sewing.
Thank you so much! You are right, TH-cam varies in what it shows although mainly it shows similar content to what someone has been watching earlier. - Rya rugs can be made either by sewing, and that was a first for me using that technique, I have made large ones using a weaving loom.
That Daniel is a tough critic! Lol. I would be curious to see the levels of expertise of your subscribers. I’m a complete rookie, so I get intimidated by a lot of projects, BUT, even if I don’t feel ready for a project I like to watch your technique & listen. Your voice is very soothing. 🥰
Thank you! I have had several community tab polls about how long people have been crocheting. That doesn't tell exactly how skilled they are but gives an idea. The majority have crocheted for several decades but there are also those, of any age, who have started to crochet recently.
@@TuulaMaaria I see you are well aware of your audience! I came to your channel when I wastrying to resolve my decreasing rows problem, stayed for all the good tips & seeing your projects. (I LOVE that sweater in the vid with Daniel.) However, being from the states I also really enjoy observing the locations of your travels!
I'm binge-watching your very good videos, starting with the one showing how to produce straight edges, because mine are hopelessly uneven. (And I subscribed because you have an adorable grandson.) Another thing I learned was that one turns with three stitches, not two, as I had been taught, for a moss stitch.
So glad to hear there are many useful things in my videos! Thank you for subscribing! Unfortunately the grandson probably isn't going to do more videos with me 😊
❤ I know the moss stitch there are plenty of videos. As for you losing viewers their loss. I may not be interested in a certain pattern an not watch the whole video. I'm sure not going to unsubscribe. Your knowledge is important to me. Thank you ❤❤
Thank you for sharing! I sometimes wonder why a certain video becomes popular and another one that looks almost the same doesn't - regardless of who made them! TH-cam can be hard to guess!
Thank you, that was very interesting. I love the flower, if you made granny squares the same size, you could make a blanket with a mix of squares and flowers which would look very pretty. They could also be added as decoration to other projects. I really cannot understand why it wasnt popular. Thank you 🧶
Thank you for your thoughts! The idea of alternating the flower with other squares is great, I would actually like to make something like that when I have time
I enjoyed these first four videos but just noticed the fifth before I watched this one and was thinking I must use this. It would look nice in a free form design.
I remember watching the flower motif video a while back, but because I follow so many channels, I couldn't remember whos video it was and my watch history was no help. TH-cam itself has unsubscribed me from more than one channel that I have had to subscribe to again. Including this one.
That certainly happens to me a lot too - I see something interesting and if I don't save it on a private playlist, I will forget where it was and even what it was!
Hello!! I watch almost all of your videos. Some like this flower is just to intense and I don’t do small stitches as my arthritis won’t let me. I love your tips and 😢techniques. I wouldn’t ever unsubscribe just because I didn’t like one video!!
I like the moss stitch that has bigger spaces. The regular one is too boring. I just bought some variegated yarn that has yellows and oranges (it looks like a sunrise). This is the one I will use for the moss with bigger spaces. I LOVE your channel!!!
Your grandson is adorable! Harsh critic, though. hahaha I have never seen that video come up before. In regards to your loss of subscribers on the flower video, when did that happen? I know one of the other crochet channels to which I am subscribed has noticed a trend recently where TH-cam is unsubscribing people without their knowledge. Wonder if that's what happened?
Thank you! Daniel looks so small in that video compared to what he is now - 2 years is a long time at that age! The unsubscribes are spread here and there. One reason for unsubscribing, apart from the one you mentioned which is an error by TH-cam, is that TH-cam regularly closes down unused accounts. But that normally goes evenly over many videos. I don't often check unsubscribed at all, every day many unsubscribe, just brought that up because it was unusual!
I watch all your videos, even have gone to the older ones to watch except for knitting I don’t watch those since I can’t knit. I think you’re an awesome teacher and you always have great tips!
Thank you so much! Did you know that those people who watch many videos on any one channel can make the channel grow much faster? 😊 Just the way TH-cam works.
I think one reason I enjoy watching your channel so much is I see certain cultural similarities. Some of the projects you work on are projects I remember seeing in homes when I was little. Like the rugs! I have made those, but I never knew the connection. The area where I live in the United States had a lot of German, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Danish immigrants. I like your project and tutorial style and would love to see even more traditional work! I have made a lot and really love the sewn scrunchies (although not traditional!) :)
Thank you for sharing! Yes, the rya rugs are very traditional in Nordic countries. When I was small, every home had at least one, and some are huge, almost covering a whole wall. That is a good idea to make traditional things, I only have a few, like Danish hearts . I used to sew a lot of scrunchies when my 3 daughters were small and I have one crochet scrunchie tutorial on my channel. I have considered making another one, a quicker type where you start with a commercial ponytail holder elastic.
@@TuulaMaaria Yes! I actually have had a larger rug hanging in my living room for years and never knew the cultural background, I just know that it's something we did in this area! I would love a video about the "quicker" scrunchies! I have tried this style, too, and would enjoy your expert opinion on things like the best way to end the elastic ones when we're using thick yarn (like fur or velvet). I "gave up" on this temporarily while I got distracted with other things, but I'm wondering if sewing would be best to attach the final tails of these yarns? I've had trouble with velvet falling out of the end weaving and the fur leaves a big bump. This is why I like your sewing scrunchies and I've switched to making those for everyone. Anything traditional for tutorials would be lovely, too! I have made your Danish heart and regular hearts and have your snowflakes on my list. Looking forward to whatever you decide!
@@bassetmuse Oh lovely that you had a wall rug too! In Scandinavia they were commonly also used in weddings. There are specific wedding rugs, or any rug could be used for that purpose. It was spread over the altar at the spot where the couple kneeled for their marriage to be blessed. Occasionally people still want to do that, to have traditional elements in their wedding ceremony. I haven't used fur yarn but with velvet yarn in items that will get a lot of wear, I leave a long end tail and weave it in back and forth. What especially helps in it not coming loose is going backwards with your stitches. Hard to explain - you bring the needle up and the next stitch start behind the spot where it came up.
Oh, that is interesting, good to know! It's not important to get more views to that video now but at the same time, I could change the thumbnail so that it would have more flowers joined together, all the same size.
@@TuulaMaaria Does it not help you monetarily for someone to go back to a previous video, watch it, and like it? If not, how long after you post a video can someone like it and be a help to you?
Hi Tuula, I wonder if some of the reduced viewers were partly due to other events when they came out? I watch videos for a limited time each day and when something comes up (Christmas, Easter, major sporting event, Eurovision etc) I will watch the items I can fit in. So many new videos come up that it takes me a long time to catch up, and some times I don't catch up at all and just jump to the latest video. I think the crocheted flowers may have appealed to children and casual viewers who don't subscribe to any channels.
That could very well be, at different times of the year people are busy with other things than TH-cam and that has an effect. I find myself that there are many videos I would like to watch when I see them but there just isn't time.
Yhose videos were before I found your channel. I liked your moss stitch variation and will definitely give it a try. The flowers I didn't care much for but I'm also not a flower person in general. I certainly would not unsubscribe because of the video. You have so many helpful videos and I've saved many to my playlist. Thank you.
I don't understand why these videos were less popular. Sometimes I do not get the TH-cam alerts when you post despite the fact I clicked "all" on the notifications. Regarding the Moss Stitch video, I agree with you that there was a time when it seemed everyone was teaching that stitch, although not with your variation, which I love and actually prefer. It's hard to predict these things as there are many variables that might affect the outcome of your analytics. Anyway, I wish you all the best luck. I for one, greatly enjoy your videos. (BTW: I continue to crochet your pretty little birds 😉🐦💕)
Thank you for your comments! You are so right, there are so many variables all the time. Makes TH-cam interesting though 😊 Lovely that you continue to crochet birds!
@@TuulaMaaria BTW I for one love it when you share your travel!! I live in New York but have less experience seeing Europe and Asia. I am drawn to all of the travel videos, especially by crafters. I just wanted to share that with you.
I should have mentioned the scale more at the start, it only shows shortly but I didn't comment it. The scale was 1-5, something commonly used both in colleges in many countries and in crafts for example in rating your Etsy purchases.
Posting again because YT wasn't letting me edit... 🙄. I thought the 1 w/ your grandson was cute 😊. As for the flower 🌼 video, i personality loved it 💖 . I've got this saved for later so i can make it in the future 🤩. IDK why ppl unsubcribed to it🤔. For me personally, when i subscribe to someone, i also enjoy other things that they post. Like you making the wall rug & sharing your surroundings. 😎. It's like getting to know a person besides their hobbies. 🥰 If there's a video I'm not interested in, i just skip over it & go to the next 1😀. Thanks Tuula😇 for sharing your life & videos 🥰! Have a wonderful day 🤗🙏❤‼️
Thank you so much for commenting! As I answer comments in chronological order regardless of which video they are on, at this time not sure if I have seen your other comment! This is what the aim would be for almost all youtubers - that people would follow you as a person as well as the things you are making!
Hi Tuula, I’ve not long found your channel and I love all your colour combinations! I love your clear tutorials and little tips for giving a more professional finish to our projects. It would be lovely if you could take us yarn shopping in Finland and show us some of your favorite shops and places ( I love to draw inspiration for my colour palette from nature) , finally I would like to say thank you again for helping me with my icord, it worked perfectly thanks to your tutorial! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 xx.
Thank you so much! A yarn-shopping video would be a good idea, there are 7 yarn stores in my town that I know of! Glad to hear the i-cord worked out well
Yes, that was yesterday! I'm in the south-west tip of Finland and we have now had about 5 warm days so all the snow is gone from here. But further north they still have lots!
I also haven't previously seen these videos. You have many really great videos so there will be some on the bottom. I love your videos and I am happy when I see a new one posted!! I especially love the video of your grandson and you! He is a good looking young man! Your video on the moss stitch makes me want to make something using your variation. It takes it from being a stitch that is borderline boring to something "fancy" looking. You are a delight to watch!
Thank you so much! In watching the 2-year-old video of Daniel I see how fast time goes, he looks so tiny there compared to what he is now! You are right, not all videos can become popular, whatever they are like!
Since I found you (lol) I've watched most, if not all! But!!!!!! I haven't gone back to watch many older videos 🤔. And now am wondering if you have a pattern for the colorful top your grandson loved too!!?? So l'll be on the hunt! Have a fabulous today!!
Lovely, thank you! Unfortunately no pattern for that colourful top, it was one I made up just as I crocheted it and it would be a big job to make a tutorial because the stitch amounts often don't match and it is very makeshift!
I have never seen these patterns before. Thanks for showing us now.❤❤❤ would make a pretty scarf pattern!!! I'm making a moss stitch blanket now. I love it!!! For some reason I don't get your videos until late. Very harsh critics on here. Keep up the good work! ❤
Thank you! There is so much content and also crochet content on TH-cam that it can only show a bit of the content on any specific channel. Some people prefer to select from the front page what they watch, others go directly to those channels they like. So it varies a lot how people consume videos!
OK. I took time to watch this video because of the title. Moss stitch is NOT on my favorite crochet STITCH list, AT ALL! Why? It just doesn't work up fast enough for me. However, I haven't seen this video of the Moss Stitch variation of yours though. But, I LIKE IT! It has that criteria I look for, it increases in height fast. 😊. Perhaps, change the video title and show a thumbnail for a bigger finished project you used it for and redo? Maybe? Video 2: Not really my kind of videos, SORRY! Video 3: What a handsome gentleman your grandson is! The video was cute and funny. Video 4: I like certain handcrafts, however this particular video didn't really interest me as it reminded me of a shaggy rug, which I don't like. Still, the design was lovely. Loved the colors. Video 5: This flower tutorial would generate more views if you could have shown what they could be made into. Especially how to join them together to from whatever project the audience has in mind. Or you showed a finished project you made using the flower. Your channel content ma'am, is much and you teach very very well. Frankly, if I don't like a content you post, I may ignore it and wait for your next post notification. I won't unsubscribe from your channel. I subscribe to a lot of channels based on my interests like sewing, crochet etc. I don't just unsubscribe unless the channel starts to deviate from the original interests. Like a sewing channel for instance, starts showing how to make a particular recipe or what they bought for their living room or how they went shopping etc. If those kinds of videos start to populate the channel instead of the sewing tutorials, I unsubscribe fast. Or another thing I do, I just ignore them for a while. Hope this helps. Oh and I am a subscriber to your channel. Thank you ma'am. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time! Shows that everyone likes different kinds of things - so one video on the same channel would interest a viewer while another one wouldn't interest the same person. Each viewer is different, it's finding the middle ground and taking into consideration what I enjoy making too. Would be interesting to find if there statistics about how many of the channels someone is subscribed to they actually watch regularly. I know I only watch a few. I'm subscribed to 170 channels at the moment, would be impossible to follow all! It has come up several times that it would be good to show finished items of many things. In most cases it is not possible because of the time it takes so that is something I just have to accept - do what can be achieved in the time there is.
I liked all five videos for various reasons and can offer no insights except for last one. Fundamentally, users assume a lot when it comes to a match with their notion of congruity, but some may have found a couple of disconnects in the flower video comparative to your other content or within this video itself. For the latter, the content was kind of a mixture of beginner level instruction (notthatthere'sanythingwrongwiththat) combined with slightly more advanced content like conceptually approaching the project as as a motif to be used however the maker desires rather than as a start-to-finished-object tutorial. For the former, I had a vague sense watching it that perhaps you were tired, or just tired of the project, compared to the usual 39:21 vibe of your other videos. Lastly, some people just don't like surface stitching, or flowers, or whatever, so chalk it up to taste 😊 Like many I have a Must Read list of authors. You are on my much shorter MustWatch list of TH-cam creators. Grateful!
Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, people regularly mention that either with motifs or stitch tutorials that they would like to see finished projects made with whatever it is. Would be nice to do that but unfortunately not possible timewise, so I'm forced to ignore those wishes. Seeming tired definitely happens on some videos, it is not always easy to start a new video according to schedule, yet this is my main job so i can't afford to skip! 😊
I can’t figure out why you lost subscribers for the crocheted flower (video 5). I’ve never seen that video before but it’s pretty. Having your grandson rate your work made me smile. He’s a handsome boy. I like seeing a more personal side of people I follow. As for content that didn’t get a wide following, I guess there are different needs for different people. I, for one, now live in a very warm climate, so I’ll probably skip woolen or cold weather projects. I won’t unsubscribe, though. Keep up the good work, Tuula.
Thank you! Definitely right, different people need and are interested in different things. Like in many countries there would be no need for chunky hats or scarves!
I feel that some of the pieces need to be shown as a completed article. Sometimes it is difficult to picture just a square of pattern in an actual garment. But I watched this till the end. Love your channel and your I cord tutorial is brilliant. Thank you very much for sharing your talent. I might even have a go at making a small mat.😊😊
Thank you! True, for many people it would be good to show entire items. Hard to do time-wise! That came also on one of my question-answer videos. Happy crocheting!
@@TuulaMaaria Since I am stuck in bed today, I have read, and made, lots of comments on this page. Interesting. Each time the "larger" or "finished item" subject comes up, I wonder if making a larger sample would be helpful. Say, a 12 inch square of the moss stitch, for example.
Thank you, great to know! 😊 You may have seen one of the videos where I mention that long time ago I used to live in Belgium for 3 years. In the Ardennes.
Kiitos paljon for reminding us about these videos. I have now discovered the ryijy and I am wondering if it would be possible for me to make one from the supplies I already have at home (with no kit). I think it would be a challenge, but not impossible. My yarn stash is out of control and this looks like a great way to use some yarn.
Yes, you could definitely make one without any kit as long you find fabric that works for the base. You can either design it yourself or use any of the charts that there are even for cross stitch. I would love to make a new one, a bit bigger but not sure I will have time!
So glad you made this video. These must have been before I found you. That said, I did find you when looking for specific stitch tutorials. I found your technique very easy to follow, and enjoy your personality. Much love to you, and your dear grandson. Love your Wwind Spinners! ❤
Tuula, I must have missed the butterfly one. It is not something I would use regularly, but is interesting. Sorry it did not go over well....maybe the time of season affects the likes and dislikes?
@@TuulaMaariaFor me as well. I was thinking the colors were more butterfly than flower. And then I wondered what flower has 4 petals? I am a hopeless thinker and forgot to follow the lesson.😊 Skipping a video is one thing, but unsubscribing would be extreme.
@@littlewiseowl4405 Had to google for 4-petal flowers 😄 It came up with 26 different ones! This one isn't a real one though. Yes, almost everyone skips inside a video and of course skips a video they see altogether. If the click-through-rate is 10% it is excellent - those who see a thumbnail or title and click it. But as you say, unsubscribing is rarer, that's why I was so surprised!
@@TuulaMaaria Oh, no! Say it's not so. That happens when they become teenagers. I was wondering if he crochets too. And if so, what does he like to make
@@gray-hairedmama5421 I had a nice time with him yesterday. Now all his free time goes with football (soccer if you are American). He doesn't crochet other than what all kids crochet at school here.
I ❤️ the you and your grandson video. Perhaps you could have told us the ratings scale ⚖️. Is it based on 1 to 5, with 1 being the worst and 5, being absolutely fantastic 👏. But i liked this video, especially well, it made me smile ❤😂
I'm too inexperienced to comment on why these vids didn't do well, but since you're asking, I'll make some random guesses. #1 Moss Stitch: Haven't tried bcz it looks complicated (but you make everything look easier!) #2 Sub Thanks: I think you're right about the title. It wouldn't show up in a specific "crochet" search & unlikely to be recommended by YT if based on the algorithms of a person's views. (I hope that made sense, it's a little too techie for me) #3 Grandson: Maybe the title again for the same reasons. I've seen this clip before, but I'm OCD & have my own pattern of viewing (oldest first) when I'm just browsing a favorite channel. (P.S. Daniel is so handsome!) #4 Wall Hanging: The title again, but you shouldn't necessarily alter it. Your "crochet" fans may not be interested but others might. #5 Colorful Flower: I'm surprised this made the list. It touches on several helpful things - the pattern, changing colors, surface stitching & joining. Thanks for all the generous sharing you give!!!
Thank you so much for your comments! Good to see your insights on the videos. Thank you for the kind comment about Daniel too 😊 Title in videos certainly are one of the hardest things to decide. To grow in TH-cam you shouldn't go for search like you would in blogs but to aim at TH-cam itself recommending your content to possible audience. Titles are something I keep learning all the time as well as thumbnails - the two things that people see when deciding what they will watch and what not.
The videos you listed here 1. Did/ have not shown up in my video feed. 2. Grandson- as an older, single man i avoid utterly anything especially videos with children in them. 3. The pop-art flowers i loved the concept and work even though not something i wld do. However the stuttering time lapses was personally nauseating- i am an epileptic and that stutter was very similar to flashing lights that can trigger a seizure. Hope that helps. Btw really appreciate yr font size/ placement and colour where you project stitch details.
Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, only some videos show up in people's feeds, even if they have notifications on. Not sure I understand what you meant by time lapses. I have a few time lapse videos but none in this video.
Hi the "stobe" effect in the pop art flower video starts just before & through sections/ steps featured at 26.15 and 29.17 into this video where the filming speeds up yr stitches and yr hook flashes in and out of yr work. However as i said previously love yr work. Thank for yr videos so sincerely appreciated!
@@Mangalsews-sp5ux Oh I see, yes, I often speed a video up when stitches are repeated instead of cutting that bit off and jumping to the next, like many others do too. And it depends on the tie of year how many lights are needed to fil. In Finland there is no light from about November to January so I often have 3 LED lights around the place where I film. I had no idea that those could be a problem for someone!
@@TuulaMaaria oh just like Ireland then re lighting at some times of day or year. Can be dismal. And "yes" well do i know about using multiple lights when crocheting in black. Btw don't take my input as gospel and change yr filming method, rather if you get the chance check with other folks and see if they responded the same way.
@@Mangalsews-sp5ux It was interesting hearing that because I have certainly never heard that before! Yes, it's not changing things for that very reason that nobody has ever said the same thing but it is good to know that people notice things I never would!
I just found your channel and am loving it. I liked all these videos too and forgot about the moss stitch so was fun to see it again. I think TH-cam algorithms are bonkers 😂😂😂. The only thing I could come up with, for the video with the unsubscribers, would be that sometimes your crocheting was close to the bottom of the page. Then you would move back up again, and I’m wondering if those people who easily get nauseous or get headaches on websites and channels due to movement maybe found there was too much vertical movement for them …. If that makes sense. I really enjoyed it though! Keep making content that brings you joy!!! ❤
Glad that you found my channel! Thank you! You are right about crochet at times being too close to the bottom of the video area. I try to avoid that and I think recently I mostly remember to check, and at times I redo bits for that reason. But it is certainly hard to do, to concentrate at the same on the actual item and the camera! Happy crocheting!
@@TuulaMaaria Your tutorials are excellent and easy to see the stitches so your efforts are well worth it. You are so very talented!!! Loved your 2 hour bunny challenge 💕💕💕
Hello Tuula, really interesting that you shared these. If useful my feeback: 1. I think I saw but was too busy so then didn't watch, have saved and will watch now; 2. I wasn't a subscriber 7 years ago so didn't see this before; 3. Such a sweet idea of your grandson but just not something I'd normally watch; 4. I would be interested in other crafts, but this is just one I'm not interested in; 5. I may have been one of the people who unsubscribed whilst watching this 😢 I just go through phases of unsubscribing and resubscribing. It's a beautiful design but not something I want to make. I think I also found it harder to follow along with for some reason (you're an amazing teacher so nothing you could have done any better). Huge thanks for your generosity in teaching and sharing with us. I am a subscriber for maybe 3 years now, and think you're fantastic!
Thank you so much for sharing! I😊t makes me see that different people have many different reasons for what they watch and what they don't watch! I know it from myself too. One problem of course is time - I see so many thumbnails of videos I would like to watch but can't watch videos for hours in a day!
Watching this today has been the first time I have seen any of these videos. I can honestly say that I enjoyed them all. I am a fairly new subscriber as I have only recently started to crochet properly after learning just 2 stitches while I was a child. So most things are new to me. I enjoyed the clips of you at home, your country is beautiful, but also the video you did away from home. I enjoy seeing any craft that is new to me, as well as old favourites. How do you know if you would like to try something unless you see someone else sharing their craftwork? I'm not interested in making everything I see, no matter who makes it, but enjoy the creativity. I would not unsubscribe from a channel unless I decided not to do the hobby myself any more. Until today, I did not know that you also do knitting, so that will be something else I will follow you on. Thank you for your videos, they are very informative and you are such an inspiration and very skillful in all you do.
@@PatriciaHall-r3u Thank you for sharing! There older videos are all ones newer followers probably haven't noticed because when something doesn't get views when it is new, TH-cam won't recommend it to anyone. My channel used to be called Crochet and Knitting with Tuula Maaria but eventually I dropped the word knitting because I concentrate so much more on crochet. But at home I knot and crochet equally. Happy crocheting!
@TuulaMaaria You are most welcome. I love watching your videos and have started searching for the knitting as well as crochet tutorials already. Thank you for providing such educational and informative videos for inexperienced people like me, I appreciate them ❤️
I don't know why these videos did not have many viewers. I like them all, however, I didn't much care for the last one. It was fascinating to watch, but not something I would ever make. Maybe, others felt the same.
Thank you! Yes, it is hard to know beforehand what people will be interested in! Fortunately it can go the opposite way too, some videos I have thought of not being good at all and they may have ended up with hundreds of thousands of views 😊
Yes, I did want to have those videos in this new video because people aren't likely to go to watch anything from links and then come back to the original video
I honestly have no idea why the last video has negative subscribers. I guess there will always be the worst ones, even if they're all good as a whole. I also wanted to say that I love seeing this type of content and how professionally and constructively you approach this channel. It's great to see you progress ❤
I think your flowers need to be stand-out pretty. Then you did not show how they could be used to decorate something, or used to join a project like a bag handle or closure.
Like you guessed, some subscribers get upset if you change the format or content they are used to. For example, Elena Rugal viewers were quite rude to the daughter making a couple of more beginner friendly videos instead of the complicated Irish and free form lace. Many told they never watch the channel again and unsubscribed. It isn't that the daughter is any less accomplished crocheter, the viewers just wanted a channel exclusively for advanced crocheters wanting to make living. However, the mother and daughter persisted, making tutorials for mixed audience and it hasn't killed the channel: they still have around million subscribers. I guess the flower is not popular because people cannot think what to so with it and there are so many more "showy" flowers that may LOOK more complicated even if they are not.
I haven't heard of Elena Rugal, need to check her channel out! The good thing is that with a good-size channel you don't need to worry about some people unsubscribing, there are always new people finding your channel from all over the world! So it is quite safe to experiment! You are probably right about that flower video, it isn't lacy enough for lace work and not tight enough if you want something with less holes!
I was not a subscriber during these videos but I do look for projects when I watch UTube. I look for color combinations since I am not good at matching colors. I found your moss stitch video interesting but the colors did not attract me. I could not imagine what to use the flowers for. I should be more imaginative but I do have many WIPs already.
Thank you! Yes, colours affect people so much. I tend to use my favourite colours for almost all samples - pinks, lilacs, lime, turquoise. Those in general do well in thumbnails fortunately, muted colours don't get noticed.
Such an interesting study in consumer behavior! Kudos for analytical thinking! My 2 cents…I am a total TH-cam junkie…I subscribe to a lot of Channels. If a video is not exactly what I am interested in at the moment I click off. Occasionally I unsubscribe as my interests change. I will say that I only am interested in basic crochet projects and not novelty items. Just me. There is a fine line between adding variety vs. going too far afield…a known marketing conundrum. A general rule tho’ is “stick to your knitting”…do you know this expression?…but you should change it to “stick to your crochet”😉
Yes, it's finding a balance between so many things. Also of course not starting to make videos you don't enjoy making just to please people either ! TH-cam is hard work, have to enjoy it to keep going for years
I had not seen the moss stitch video, but now that I have, I like it. The only reason I can think of that it is not popular is that, as you say, there were lots of videos about moss stitch around at the time and people had already seen others. It was nice of you to say thank you for 10,000 subscribers, but it could have been mentioned at the start of another video rather than have a whole video to itself. Some people are not interested in something that is just about numbers rather than tips and techniques about crochet. Your grandson is really sweet, but as a single woman with no children or grandchildren, I was not really all that interested. Please don’t take that the wrong way, I like children and am a popular aunt and great-aunt, it is just not the reason I watch a crochet video. The wall-hanging video was interesting to me because I like arts and crafts generally, but again, it was not crochet so it may have put other people off. I had not seen the flower tutorial, but just like the moss stitch one, now that I have, I like it, so I have no idea why other people would not. However, I am quite guilty of subscribing to a channel for a short time so that I can have a look at the videos, then unsubscribing when I have seen all I want to see. It is not the fault of any one video in particular, it is just that that one reminds me that I have seen enough and my subscription list is getting a bit long. Maybe it was just coincidence that 15 others did something similar at the same time. Having said all that, though, I never “dislike” anything unless there is a good reason, e.g. it is obviously meant to be offensive. I understand that everyone’s tastes are different and, if I don’t like something, I just move on, because I appreciate all the work that goes into making the videos. I try to be nice and sometimes I even succeed! Sorry, that was a bit long, but I was trying to give some feedback that might be useful, because I really do enjoy your videos. Best wishes from Scotland. 😊
Thank you so much for all your insights! You certainly seem to be right that if content is a bit outside of the usual on a channel, people watch less. You mentioned dislikes and that gave me the idea to check how many dislikes I get, I don't think I have ever looked at that figure before 😊 Really not that many! I took a time period where there had been 1.2 million views and in that same period 604 dislikes! One statistic may surprise most people - almost every channel has the vast majority of views from non-subscribers, often as much as 70-80%. So against that, it was interesting to hear that you would first subscribe and then unsubscribe if you have seen enough! Scotland, lovely! I have only been there twice shortly but would love to go again. I have often checked boat prices when in Belfast but they are always so expensive to go across! One of the places I would like to visit is "Craft town Scotland", West Kilbride.
As far as colours, stitch and style the three crochet patterns you showed just don’t appeal. The flower petals one especially reminds me of aunty or grandmother ugly crochet designs. We are all different and looking for different things. The personal travel piece and the grandson video are nice but not what I am looking for when I am interested in crochet patterns and ideas. Don’t take it personally. Every video can’t appeal to everyone. Lately I realize I spend too much time watching youtube and have started to take note of,the length of videos and deciding if I want to spend -blank- amount of time of my life watching something I’m not really interested in.
Thank you! You are so right, not everything appeals to everyone, that would be impossible! For that reason it is also good that people unsubscribe. I almost always use my own favourite colours in everything I make because I need to enjoy what I'm making - TH-cam is hard work 😊
@@TuulaMaaria I don't particularly pay attention to the colors you (or anyone else) use. I focus on the pattern. I can pick my own colors if I don't like yours. I have made a lot of sections for Warm Up America. I have a book of crochet patterns but it is in black and white. Sometimes it's hard to see the pattern in the picture and the instructions are not always clear. For that reason I have turned to TH-cam for tutorials and inspiration. I have made many sections using the different stitches. Great way to sample new ones. I only found your channel about 9 months ago. Yours is my favorite by far. I have looked up the ones of your previous videos I could find. I have liked getting to know you. As someone else commented, I think we could be friends.
@@gray-hairedmama5421 Thank you so much! I normally use my favourite colours on video samples but ones that show off well what I am doing. As you say, everyone picks their own colours at the end. But I can see that someone wouldn't want to watch a video if they really hate the colour of yarn used!
Huh. I liked them all, Tuula. Personally, as an “Oma” to three beautiful grandsons, I especially liked seeing Daniel! Maybe that just didn’t appeal to younger viewers? This is why I do NOT have a channel!!! 😂 I don’t know how you keep up, my dear. You are amazing. Did you see the eclipse? We had almost 100% totality here…it was pretty incredible if I’m honest. Hugs from also slowly-starting-Spring-in-Ohio! ☺️🫶🏻🧶 xx-Lisa
Thank you Lisa! Something I have noticed over the last couple of years when I have been on videos myself more than in the earlier years of the channel - the age of viewers keeps going up all the time. Now 65+ is already the largest single group. Younger women (and a few men) under 40 watch certain videos and quick tips but those who watch more and more regularly are mainly over 50. But they say that most people prefer to watch people similar to their own age. No eclipse in Europe. The next one will be in Spain I think! But I saw many photos and videos of it both in the news and on Instagram and Facebook.
It also have lots to do with the algorithm of TH-cam. I actually looked you up now cause I was wondering why I don't see you on TH-cam! Thought you stopped making videos! Your videos are great!! Glad you still here!! ⛳️🧶🇿🇦❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! True, the algorithm has such an effect. I spend a lot of time learning more about it, although it reacts to what the audience does. Shows similar things to what someone already watches, and in crochet there are so many channels that it is not surprising you haven't seen anything from me!
Thank you for watching! See also this video about the 10 best crochet tips in one video: th-cam.com/video/yfIP1Qe8Ra8/w-d-xo.html
Your grandson was a cutie! I would have given all your crocheted items a score of 5 stars though! I have not explanation as to why viewers would ever unsubscribe from your channel! Thanks for all your tips and I love learning about you and viewing scenes of your travels to different places, too!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy my content 💜
I'm glad you have turned your least performing videos into compilations😊. There's always someone who will appreciate your work😊. I definitely know I do😊.
😊 thank you. Yes, I got the idea of compilations from a youtubers discussion forum, I wouldn't have thought of it myself!
I think you should make content that you are interested in and not worry about the subscriber numbers etc thank you for your tutorials and content 👍🏻
To me, all your videos are wonderful. Keep up the good work. I believe so much in you.
Thank you so much! Have a great week! 💗
So glad that you find my tutorials clear 💜
True, could have shown a project wit those flowers.
Thank you! Definitely true, can't please everyone! Can only learn from sort of an average of what people like!
Daniël was adorable! Thanks for sharing, and a good way to catch up with videos we might have not watched!
Lovely, thank you!
Thank you so much! I suppose it is just that different people prefer different things, can't please everyone 😊
@@TuulaMaaria Maybe the flowers just so happened on the day TH-cam decided to randomly unsub some viewers from all the channels
Steph 😊
Daniel is awesome ❤ he reminds me of my grandson. I've loved all your videos. You are the best teacher! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you so much!
Love looking at these videos, they are all wonderful. Love your tips.
Glad you like them!
Daniel's video was a repeat but, loved seeing it again - a real cutie. He is a tough judge! The other 2 were new to me and I found them interesting.❤
That's great, thank you!
Thank you for all your tips. They're all useful to me. You're a guru.
Thank you so much! Happy crocheting!
Great idea!
I really appreciate how your tutorials are done. They are easy to follow. Hope things pick up.
Thank you so much! It's all up and down much of the time, just picked these five older videos that didn't get many views!
Hello!! I watch almost all of your videos. Some like this flower is just to intense and I don’t do small stitches as my arthritis won’t let me. I love your tips and 😢techniques. I wouldn’t ever unsubscribe just because I didn’t like one video!!
Thank you! Yes, there can be so many different reasons why someone doesn't like or watch a certain video, thank you!
I subscribed today because it’s the first time I see your work. Also, I love your courage to share your worst performing videos ❤
Lovely, thank you so much!
I like the moss stitch that has bigger spaces. The regular one is too boring. I just bought some variegated yarn that has yellows and oranges (it looks like a sunrise). This is the one I will use for the moss with bigger spaces. I LOVE your channel!!!
Thank you so much! Enjoy your project with the beautiful yarn!
@@TuulaMaaria yes I did know, that’s why I watch the older ones too and hit the like and watch the ads also 🙂
@@cindycampbell4994 Oh lovely, thank you!
@@cindycampbell4994 does watching the ads help the channel owner?
Hi Tuula. The flowers are beautiful but at first glance without reading the thumbnail I thought it was butterflies 😄.
Oh, that is interesting, good to know! It's not important to get more views to that video now but at the same time, I could change the thumbnail so that it would have more flowers joined together, all the same size.
@@TuulaMaaria Yes. But it still doesn't make sense why someone would unsubscribe on that video. 🤷🏼
@@TuulaMaaria Does it not help you monetarily for someone to go back to a previous video, watch it, and like it? If not, how long after you post a video can someone like it and be a help to you?
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
Great to hear, thank you!
Makes TH-cam interesting though 😊
Lovely that you continue to crochet birds!

Glad to hear the i-cord worked out well
Wow! Is that in Finland now??? Wow, nice weather!!!!! No snow!!! Yei!!!
I love all your videos, if it learning tip for crocheting or your beautiful country, as I live in Australia, Finland is very interesting 🇦🇺
Thank you, lovely to hear!
The flower would make a cool sweater top or dress.
Thank you, yes, would go well for those!
I watch and live all your videos. Thank you
Thank you so much, glad to hear!
I had never seen the moss stich video. I really like it.
Lovely, happy to hear!
Lastly, some people just don't like surface stitching, or flowers, or whatever, so chalk it up to taste 😊
Like many I have a Must Read list of authors.
@@gray-hairedmama5421 Could try that at times! Even though takes more time then.
Hallo Tuula, I love your videos. I watch them while I’m crocheting too. ❤ from Antwerp / Belgium.
Thank you, great to know! 😊 You may have seen one of the videos where I mention that long time ago I used to live in Belgium for 3 years. In the Ardennes.
@@TuulaMaaria yes, I did. 😉
I like that moss stitch video. With that slight change as well as it looks a little fancier. Thx
Great!
Thank you so much! These videos varied in age between 7 and 2 years old. Glad you like wind spinners!
This was so interesting. I love the flowers, especially that you showed how to join them for projects. I really like surface stitches too! 😊
That's good to know! I love it myself and want to make something with them - but it's always the problem of having too many projects I want to make! 😄
Tuula, I must have missed the butterfly one. It is not something I would use regularly, but is interesting. Sorry it did not go over well....maybe the time of season affects the likes and dislikes?
Oops, flowers not butterflies. They are so pretty for either.
You are the second person to say the flowers look like butterflies, that is good to know!
Best thing on TH-cam is Daniel rating your work 😆 🤣
Glad you liked his part! He looks so small in that video, two years make a big difference at that age
Thankyou
Tuula, the video with your cute grandson Daniel is adorable. I hope to see him some more in your future videos!
Thank you! I would love to have him again but he's older and much bigger now (10) and may not want to be seen with his gran anymore! 😄
Thank you Oh yes, I just took that from the general scale used in most countries but there may well be some where 1 is the best!
I'm too inexperienced to comment on why these vids didn't do well, but since you're asking, I'll make some random guesses.
#1 Moss Stitch: Haven't tried bcz it looks complicated (but you make everything look easier!)
#2 Sub Thanks: I think you're right about the title. It wouldn't show up in a specific "crochet" search & unlikely to be recommended by YT if based on the algorithms of a person's views. (I hope that made sense, it's a little too techie for me)
#3 Grandson: Maybe the title again for the same reasons. I've seen this clip before, but I'm OCD & have my own pattern of viewing (oldest first) when I'm just browsing a favorite channel. (P.S. Daniel is so handsome!)
#4 Wall Hanging: The title again, but you shouldn't necessarily alter it.
@@TuulaMaaria now that I have found you, I look for your photo or your name in the thumbnails. If either shows up, I click!!
@@gray-hairedmama5421 That's great, thank you!
This is the 1st time i saw ur moss stitch video. I enjoyed it. Plus the scenery around u Tuula🥰
Not surprised you haven't seen a specific video, I have 370 videos now! Glad you liked it! I'm happy about spring starting now
I love your videos and I have never seen these maybe these were before I subscribed.
Thank you! TH-cam only shows some videos from any channel a person is subscribed to, so not surprising you hadn't seen these.
What a fun video. Well done! 🎉
Thank you so much! 🤗
Excellent video
Thankyou
Can u please make a video on dream catchers and fillet crochet
Thank you! Those would be good ideas for a video! I have considered doing one about filet crochet, mainly about how to create the images for it.
It looks like you got them those that did watch the sime of the one theyre watching them now. LOL Very Celver Tuula.
There are a lot of the Moss St
Yes, I did want to have those videos in this new video because people aren't likely to go to watch anything from links and then come back to the original video
the negative subscriber video is so lovely, I don't know why would there be 15 unsubscribers on it, maybe just coincidence.
Glad you like it! True, it may just be that TH-cam showed that video to the wrong people!
I honestly have no idea why the last video has negative subscribers. I guess there will always be the worst ones, even if they're all good as a whole. I also wanted to say that I love seeing this type of content and how professionally and constructively you approach this channel. It's great to see you progress ❤
Thank you so much! TH-cam is such a learning curve in all aspects of it!
Canada 🇨🇦 👋
Maybe more clothing? Sweater for a little boy as their are not that many availible?
That might be a good idea!
I think your flowers need to be stand-out pretty. Then you did not show how they could be used to decorate something, or used to join a project like a bag handle or closure.
True, could always show more ideas of what to use something for! If only there was time to make more samples!
TH-cam is hard work, have to enjoy it to keep going for years
Yes…I know it must be very hard. I could never do it! Thanks Tuula.
Wow, love your live. will subscribe, love your work from Tasmania Australia xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
