    Oh Boy Tuula! The last one using a wooden spoon to wind a hank of yarn into a cake is the first time I’ve seen that done. And that is a wonderful and helpful idea. Thank you. 😊

    So much fabulousness, Tuula! Thank you! …. The most surprising and amazing one, was the making yarn thicker short. As a spinner, I’m used to chain plying to get a 3 ply yarn (also called by some, Navajo plying). So guess how amazed and happy I am to see that you can do this with thin yarns to make a thicker one and the same way! Who knew??? …. You did, of course 😊

      Thank you! I have heard the term Navajo plying about this before, and also that it can be used for spinning. Such a useful and easy technique for many things!

And I’m glad to see someone else holding yard the same way I do - very simple to do. I prefer tapered hooks as well, and I will definitely heed your technique for keeping track of beginning and ending "straight stitches" with a double stitch from now on 🤓. I've crocheted since junior high school, yet still struggle with that. Though I don't make those often. I too will use your way of crocheting circles using your crochet T-shirt yarn idea 😊.

    Really enjoyed this video and the castle is enchanting.
    Update on yr tops/ v-stitch - i sourced 4000mts chocolate brown cotton yarn on eBay for a great price. Just been delivered and i am so excited i worked up several samples. Have decided to use a few of yr tips in production too! Use a #5 hook to cast on vs a #3 hook to do the crocheting. Love yr v-stitch! Did need to make it a tad more masculine by working to a 2 x chain height- produces a nice textural cloth rather like mens knitwear from the late 60s very early 70s. Oh and after years of 0.45/ 0.75 hooks a #3 hook zooms along😂😂

    For winding the yarn, you can do so with your thumb in place of the spoon. Wind your yarn somewhat loosely about 15-20 times around your thumb (leave a tail of a few inches, this will be your center pull). Give a thumbs-up and continue to wind at a 45 degree angle from the bottom outside of your thumb to the upper inside of your thumb (between your thumb and pointer finger). Very slightly turn the ball or cake as you wind the yarn. The yarn will line up neatly and create a beautiful yarn cake with a center pull. This is the method that I use with every skein. NO TOOLS REQUIRED. ❤

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Inline hooks have a sharper tip,deeper hook part, overall narrower at the tip. Tapered ones are more rounded, the hook part "sticks out" more. Different people prefer different brands. I personally like Clover Amour most.
