I love both of these scenes for so many reasons. 1. The consistency of Japanese lore. Fire has, and almost always will be, the #1 way to kill things whether theyre immortal or not. Every anime has that one fire wielding character, and theyre always at the top. Fire is such an important thing in their supernatural culture, it always feels right to see it not only beautifully animated, but represented in such a harsh yet justified manner. 2. Roy becoming the bane of all homunculi. After killing Lust, Roy becomes the #1 dude all of them want to kill... but also the 1 dude theyre all scared of. These guys have lived painlessly and in control for decades. To have one of their own not only get so damaged they cant repair themselves, but to die, shook them to their core. Roy became their boogey man and no man is more appropriate for that. 3. Hughes justice being served. Nothing more to say here. 4. The sheer skill showcased through the fire maelstorm perfectly killing the other hommunculi while not touching a single friendly soul. It was such a sight and revelation to Ed that an alchemy like this could exist, he stands completely in awe... speechless. We dont see many moments where Ed has nothing to say. 5. Roys struggles being overcome with Hawkeyes support. Probably the greatest ship in anime history that we never really get to see come to fruition (but deep down we all know these two 100% end up together). But, we get to see both at their lowest and respective highest points. FMAB is still, imo, the best anime. Incredible story telling, incredible animation that holds up over 20 years later, and incredible fight scenes that give battle shounen a run for their money. What a show. What a scene
I remember seeing Envy attack Hawkeye during the fight and thinking "My dude, my pal, the guy chased for half the world because you killed his best friend...and you think it is a good idea to attack his...close... friend and invaluable subordinate?"
Mustang is the definition of a super cool, overpowered badass. He makes you understand why they wanted to seal this flame alchemy. I mean, if he became a villain...... SNAP!

I love how Roy was THE guy who figured out how to kill the Homonculi. That in order to finitely end them you just had to burn out their stones. How much that changed the tide of the war is extremely underrated.

(ENDING SPOILER ALERT: Don't open this unless you already watched the ending) Come to think of it, Roy's the only human character that pulls off a proper "solo takedown" of a homunculus, and he does so _twice_ (Lust and Envy (second time)). - Envy (first time), Wrath, and Pride are taken down by a single main opponent, but with _massive_ asterisks (Envy gets taken out by Marcoh because he happens to know how to destroy Philosopher's Stones directly, while Wrath and Pride are both massively weakened before entering their respective final battles against Scar and Edward). - Gluttony (first time), Sloth, and Father are all team kills (Elric brothers + Greed/Ling + Lan Fan, Armstrong siblings + Curtis family, and the Human Sacrifices + Mei Chang + Greed/Ling, to be more precise). - Greed (first time), Gluttony (second time), and Greed (second time) are killed by other homunculi (Wrath, Pride, and Father, in that order).

And if it were not for Minami Takayama's voice at this level of quality, I probably would not be able to listen to this portrayal.

I was going to point this out, too! Roy Mustang put his friend Maes Hughes in the ground. For Envy to take his shape, of all people's, was like -- well -- trying to put out a fire with gasoline!
The times with Envy being the dumbest fk ever: 1. Turning into Hughes, a treasured, but very dead, colleague of Roy's. 2. Hurting yet another treasured colleague, Riza, thinking that Roy wouldn't find them. 3. Mistaking that he is in another anime where the good guys always let the villains complete their talk. 😂 I mean when Roy hesitates for that split second after seeing Hughes, I'm sure he isn't like "oh shit, what should I do? I can't hurt him, this is Hughes!". He's more like "OK, now you've done it, you little piece of shit. I'm gonna make this extra agonising and fry you extra crispy."
I perfectly remember Edward saying in the manga that if there was an alchemist he loved it was his teacher and Mustang, especially because in combat, the latter could kill him without much difficulty, it's good that Mustang is on the right side ! Thank you Hughes for reminding him what is really important in life, the lives of the people you love must be protected at all costs! 😎👌❤️❤️
I absolutely love that we started out hating the guy, then found his heart through tragedy, and get to see him passionately hand everyone their asses in a blaze of vengeance.
In power scaling, i think Mustang would probably be the most powerful alchemist (excluding those who have opened the portal and himself after portal). His only contender is Kimbley, but i honestly can't compare them properly because he uses a philosopher's stone to amplify his alchemy while Mustang is pure raw power.
Mustang is stronger. He can do pinpoint aiming, while Kimblee can only use long range attacks. If he can close in the distance, then Mustang wins. Then again, Kimblee is much more mobile while Mustang just stumps himself to the ground when fighting. I think Mustang takes this, high difficulty
@@AlooParantha_311 Kimblee can wipe out 1 quarter of a large city with minimal effort, Mustang can't do that much damage with just one attack. He destroyed 1/4 of Ishval with a single attack. But again this was with the power of a Philosopher's stone amplifying his alchemy.
It should be pointed out that when Roy kills Lust and it looks like her claws got too close to him for comfort, what we didn't know until the fight with Envy is that a) he has pinpoint accuracy with his alchemy and, b) he can control the intensity of the combustion. Let that marinate a moment.

Colonel Roy Mustang was, from the very beginning, the MOST BADASS character in the ENTIRE anime and that moment against Lust....... BOY did he cement that fact for me. *10/10* video FOR SURE!!! 👍
Is the fire alchemy that Mustang uses that makes him so dangerous and frightening. In reality a tiny spark can create a fire that can wipe hundreds of acres and entire towns. Having the ability to control fire as a weapon at will that is a frightening thought.
To expand on Point 4, Ed had always viewed Mustang in terms of being military. It was in these displays of ability in the field that he came to acknowledge him as a prodigious alchemist.
If I remember right, somewhere in this thread someone asks how Roy can keep fueling the flames with which he blasts the Homunculi. The answer? He isn't. It's the Homunculi's own Philosopher's Stones that are helping to kill them. Every time he torches them, the Stones reconstitute their body tissues -- magically rebuilding all that flammable bone, fat and muscle ... and then Roy sets it all alight again. And again. And again, until the Stones finally run out of juice.
If there ever was to be a decent live action adaptation with a solid cast this is the anime they should do I feel like there are a lot of details that get left out in certain adaptations but this one would be a cool live action series
