How To Tie Fly Line To Backing Using The Albright Knot

- In this short video I take a look at how to tie the albright knot and how it can be used for attaching a fly line to a backing on a fly reel.
This knot can be used in other ways in fishing and I will cover more of it's uses in later videos.
I ordered this to net the algae in a large pond in our backyard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI The net is very sturdy and easy to maneuver in the water. The angled edges make it easier to get into the smaller spaces among the rocks. I didn't realize that the front of the net doesn't actually have a frame to it, just the sides do, but it seems to work just fine. The handle extends to various sizes, which is a great feature when I'm in areas that are tight with shrubs at the edges of the pond. I can collapse the handle so it doesn't get stuck in the bushes.
awesome vid and helped no end. tying new lines onto a reel that my dad orginally set up for me over 20 years ago. He is no longer available to help with his knowledge , watched this and within 15 mins ive got my 3 reels set back up and ready for a trip. Many many thanks.
this is the most simple and clear instruction some people complicate it way too much on fly gear tying thank you
It takes me probably 20 minutes to successfully tie this but it feels great when I'm done. Thanks for sharing a easy to see way.
i havn't tied a fly line to backing in thirty years. thanks for this great tip on this knot.
Brilliant many thanks was struggling with the nail knot so perfect.
aha though so, great videos on both channels, keep it up .i sat and watched this whilst attaching my fly line to backing, very clear explanation and demo! awesome
Am I the only one where the whole thing comes undone when I start pulling it tight once I loop it 7 times then stick it back through ?
Yeah! What the heck is that about?! So confused
Figured it out lol its when you start wrapping the line. Pay close attention to that part if you go over instead of towards your chest then over the line it’ll come un done it’s hard to explain but I realized that’s the part that was causing that.
I find that the first wrap needs to be tight, otherwise problems arise.
He didn’t explain it well, the tag end of the backing also wraps around the backing line along with the loop
I’m preparing some lines for my 18’ Keiryu rod. I’m planning to use the backing to tie on to the lillian. This should work beautifully. I got into tenkara a while back and now I want to learn how to do long casts with a fixed line.
Excellent video and narration..thank you, great job!
Very neat. I'll definitely need to learn this one.
Excellent video, very helpful!
Thanks, this was helpful. The knot came out nice! : )
Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
First time I’ve done this and it was a success Thankyou for your wisdom😊
Thanks i will never forget my first lol, hope i catch some rainbows tomorrow
Thanks nice video and i did this on my new line, well last wk Monday i was fishing Pyramid Lake and i hooked up on a Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and my line came undone. not very expensive line only $75.00 by Jim Teeny. Now i'm doing a triple surgeon knots and my line held yesterday when i hooked up on 11 lbs Cutthroat Trout..
Genio . La isiste re corta y fácil . Me canse de ver videos para hacer ese nudo y todos lo hacían re complicado y en un solo paso lo esplicaste 💪💪💪💪
Beautiful tutorial thank you im gonna use this knot for a while
Thanks! Nice job.
Thanks very helpful!
A great video. Made it very clear. Thanks!!
Neat, thank you....will use this knot now.
Top knot many thanks. Easy when you know.
Thanks for the tip!!!’ You should be a hand model :)
My knot went successful
Thank you for the very clear presentation!

great video and great help. There's something reassuring about a Yorkshire accent
Thanks these knots look great!
The other alternative is to make a double in the backing thats big enough to pass the spooled flyline through. You can then make a loop to loop connection and this method allows whole flylines to be changed in a minute or so, rather than having to worry about spare spools for the reel. This is actually what the loop is designed for.
What if fly line does not have a welded loop? Then you would have to use either an Albright or nail knot connection.
@PelletHead You can use braided mono loop connector, which you can put on both front and back .
Blasphemy! Lol. No thanks. @@markrigg6623
Superb video totally simple and effective teaching
thank you for your help!! :)
great job thanks!!
This is infinitely easier than the nail knot (using no tools). Thank you!
Use a thick sewing needle with a wide eye on it and as you do the last loop put the line through the eye and pull it and it takes the line through for you. Easy.
@@brianr9529 nail knot bundles up the fly line its really messing for fly fishing tbh this is more convenient
Thank you! This helped so much!!
Is the tag end the thin peice of the leader or thicker?
Always watch this fantastic help 👍🏻
Great instruction. Do you recommend this knot for 20 lb micron to 8 wt line?
Thanks that really helps
Great tutorial. Thank you. My first time ever tying the knot and mine looks "almost" the same as yours.
This shit does not work
Thanks for this knot!
Perfect. Thank you.
Sweet , sorted me out .Paid extra for a decent line and wanted to make sure it's not gonna disappear into the depths ....like ermm my last line . #Cough # ... shame-face
Gostei desse nó muito bom e facil
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Very simple and easy thanks!
*Have used the braided line for several years **enjoyable.fishing** recommend both for salmon in the summer as well as walleye through the ice. Can’t beat it for the price!*
As most decent fly lines come with welded loops both ends I’m assuming you can still use this knot to attach the backing? Or would you cut the loop off? Regards from deepest Dorset
Looks like you could I was wondering the same thing
Tie a big loop in your backing and do a loop to loop connection to your fly line. Much stronger than a nail knot, but the knot in his video is the next best thing
Nice tutorial
Thanks!

Congrats
Successful 2nd try. Used 550 cord to start with to understand method.
great vid, u sound the guy from the channel, yourkshireangler or somthing like that
Wow that was easy thank you
Thanks this saved me from a little bit of the ultra violence
well done
Thanks
I love this knot compared to the nail knot but have you ever ran out backing and got hung up on that knot?
Easier than I thot it'd be.
Thank you👍🏽 Nice clear vid and instructions. Sub'd as a result👌
Can i use this from leader to main line?
Thank you! I suck @ knots and can make this one work for me. Not concerned about the knot getting caught on the small guides the 6-9 inch brookies don't take me down to backing. Cheers.
I have the same concern as Martin Thomson. You got nice and close cutting the tag end of your fly line, but you still have a small flap. I don't think this is going to go through your guides well at speed. If you have had fish take you to your backing several times and this knot passed through just fine, let us know. I came to your video because I am starting to buy lines with welded loops on the back end. For now, I think I'll just chop the welded loop and stick with the nail knot. I've never had one fail and they pass through the guides VERY well.

I’ll do this with loop ends, as well. It’s strong and slips through the guides.
Tengkyau my frens
Thank you very mush 👏👏👏😎😃💪👍👌🎣#Bernard ringard 🐬🐬👊✔!!El DIABLO loco ha ha ha !!
😷👍👍👍👍
I tried tightening fly backing using my bare hands. It slipped and not I have slits in my fingers. Ouch
secure, but will get hung up in guides if you get into backing
After I wrap 7 times over pulling the other end seems to do nothing
A kahan se milegi aur kitne rupaye ke milati hai kahan se
I can’t get it to work am I dumb?
This is the thing with inexperienced tutors: they know how to do it already, so they skip over 10 key details.
i’m completely novice to this, and i’m clueless as to what i do if the backing already has a loop in it, the guy told me to tie it and that’s it, but he gave me a spool of tippet, and i’m seeing all these videos referring to fly lines and tippets and i’m so confused. is tippet the same as fucking line?? jesus why is this shit so complicated😂 i just want to fish... if anyone can help, please do so... is the tippet regular fly line, or do i have to buy a specific line?
Oh my bloody days! I’ve been trying multiple times, lines getting ruined, won’t work for me when go to tighten
Make sure the long end of your backing line extends to the right before you start twisting. Mine was coming undone too, and I watched the video again and saw that I had missed that detail.
This isnt working for me doing the exact steps
theres no way you can do that knot that easy with say 20lb mono to fly line. easy to do with that line being used
not a fan o this knot as it sometimes leaves too big a knot so that when a big-fish takes some line and backing,it can stick on the smaller eyelets of your rod. has any1 ever told u u got womens hands lol
whats wrong with just fitting a braided loop just like you would put on the front end of the fly line ?
+daftlad 2863
hey just wondering how would u connect the braid backing to the braided loop ??
That knot going through your rod eyes or snake will lose you a fish

Не правильно!!!!
This is not allbrighit
Yes it is
You're not all bright either chum
slow the fuck down! a lot of you guys on here showing how to tie knots go way too fast. I'm a beginner trying to figure all of this out.
pause when you can't follow
youtube has this great new feature where you can slow the video down up to 0.25 normal speed! you should try it! :)
trinirocker101 really? How? This would be very helpful
trinirocker101 wow I just figured it out. Thanks
Not much help he don’t show much he does it so quickly
Watch in slow motion x.25
Not the right knot for that connection.
Shit once again
FG knot… or a simple cinch knot is much thinner … this knot is way too thick….
