Yeah… I find this pretty hard to believe to be quite honest. 500 ft is low, 300 is very low, and 150 is insane. Flying at 150 ft in visual formation with a tanker and 4 other aircraft seems like suicide/asking for a CFIT. If radar was the concern, I’d have advocated for placing the refueling track behind high ground to terrain mask or done at further range to be below the radar horizon at higher altitude

Your videos have always helped me with my history studies, and have allowed me to get a better picture of historic battles. Could you do a video on the 1942 Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands? Will always be a loyal fan.
Yes, where if there was any fault during the refuel the fighter would not even have time to say anything before they hit the ground. At that altitude over desert the air will be already turbulent, so making for a very bumpy refuel. 22000 feet you have the luxury of air under, so if you have an issue, and say the fuel line dumps 100 litres into the inlet and flames you out, plus gives your aircraft an instant full power wash and shine, you have the ability to bank, go into the relight regime, and do an in flight relight, before coming back round to do it again, with a now very shiny aircraft.
Taking fuel at 150ft??? That is crazy stuff... and all pilots did it with no problem?? Thats some skill right there. Can any other airforce do that? Must be dangerous AF
The desert areas they conducted the refuelling were flat and featureless with very stable weather patterns. Doing it at anywhere else at such low altitude with even the slightest bit of wind shear wouldve been disastrous.
These guys were trained by the Americans. They were good, in fact really really good. One could say they were the best military in the middle east before the damn '79 revolution. Nowadays the Iranians are jerk-offs. They can't even match Russians, and we know how bad those guys are.
Mu uncle was an Iraqi Air Force pilot at the time and was stationed at H3. He almost died in this attack and took years of surgeries for him to recover, and he retired and never flew again after that.

As a millienial, from the media I grew up hearing how incompentent or lessor Middle Eastern air forces were supposed to be compared to Western ones. I had no idea Iran was capable of pulling off such complex and daring flight operations. A stunning achievment by the Iranian Air Force and another stunning video from the crew at the Operations Room!
/The war was fought like a day job. They would go to the battle line or base in the morning and do whatever, then they would go home for the night. They don't fight the war like what other countries do. In fact they have said multiple times that you can NOT plan a military mission the day after payday b/c no one shows up....
These were pilots trained and supplied by the U.S. under the shah. Most if not all of them had gotten their wings in Texas in the 70s. They were loyal to Iran and its people regardless of the people in power. Most of their leadership had been executed a year or so prior for nothing. True warriors.

Wasn’t too long prior to this particular war that we pretended to minesweep the Suez Canal for Egypt… (“pretended” because there was no evidence any mines were found other than a handful the task force didn’t handle, and reports were falsified to the Pentagon by commanders on scene to get it over with and go home)… As a family member who participated in that silliness described the entire Middle East always said, “Same chit, different decade…”
