I was so excited when they remastered As The Palaces Burn. I love the original raw sound but it was a breath of fresh air to really be able to hear everything on that album.

Agreed, it's a shame New American Gospel didn't get a similar remastering.

Undoubtedly the Mesa 4x12 is the LoG tone, but loved how the Mustaine w/ V30's sounded. Great playing mate, keep it up!

BIG RRESPECT for that CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON poster... those films were a big part of my family when i was a child in the 70s.. and i introduced that film series to my own kids especially my oldest son who i raised as a single parent... those were the films we always would watch together when he was a young boy.. 💯💯💯💯🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I saw them when they toured right before that album dropped. By the time they went on, the room had emptied to about 20 people. Was really cool seeing them in that small venue and then move to playing stadiums a few years later.

    Man.. you're the tone king🤘
.. here's one for you... Prong 'cleansing' album. Snap your fingers snap your neck etc.
I saw an interview with Tommy Victor back in the day and he said they got that tone by running a Korg G1 through a Marshall 800.
The G1 was the small red distortion processor that Dime used for the 'Trendkill' demos.
I have one, great bit of kit for the year it came out (1995), used to run it through my Peavey 120w solid state and sounded VERY PanterA 🤘🤘🤘

04:18 it's not only cabs but also mic models/positions/blends... Changing these on the same cab model will also make a massive sound difference.

The mixes of as the palaces burn were fine. It was the mastering process the first time that effed that albums sounds. They explain this with the remastered dvd.

I still enjoy listening to most recent LoG music, but I really miss the style they had in "As the Palaces" and "Ashes", less bluesy and more technical-thrash.
After "Sacrament" they've become a sort of Pantera's successors, imho.

Sweet sweet sound! I too love this album but I love Wrath just a tad more.
I do like the SIT Willie Adler Signature strings. They are pretty inexpensive too.
I’m still patiently waiting for your Nippon tutorial on here.
    Hopefully you do it soon.

Completely agree with the dominion thing... I dont understand why the attraction for a les paul after creating such a beautiful thing like the dominion guitar is... I thought I heard in an interview that was a little bit to tricky the relationship between Mark and Jackson, so he just embrace the gibson family... maybe he will come with a signature model more ahead in time? Hope so! Amazing job recreating the tun btw Chopper! Will definitely copy some stuff you passed here! haha

everything you say about that album is true.
production not good, they explained how they were in a rush because they had to do it all over in days.
but the songs stand the test of time on their own.
still some of my fave songs to jam ever.

    Just a couple things..
    1. "New American Gospel" was their debut album (if you don't include "Burn the Priest"), not "As the Palaces Burn".
    2. Only Mark boosted his mids on his amp. Willie did in fact use the traditional "V" shape on his graphic EQ.
    3. For gating (and "boosting"), they both used DBX 266XL's (2 channel Comp/Gate) on both ends of their amps.
The reason "As the Palaces Burn" sounds horrible is because Devin Townsend was hired to produce the album, and the airline lost his equipment (which was eventually found.. after the album was already recorded), leaving him with only his laptop to record the whole album (in the short timeframe the band was given).
*If you want to hear some of Devin's best work as an engineer/producer, listen to 1998's "Rising" by Stuck Mojo.
I know this is an older video, but I still hope this helps.
P.S. For pickups (at the time), Mark used a Duncan "JB/Jazz" set, while Will used a Duncan "Distortion/'59" set.
For strings, they both used 10-46, but replaced the 46 with a 48 (for Drop D tuning).

Love this videos! I know these are focused on tones from metal bands, but I would love an approach to the tone on Pulse Ultra's Headspace album since the guitar is chuggy AF. Just a suggestion of one of my favorite tones ever.

I guess it’s mainly because I’ve listened to it so much, but I prefer the original mix much more than the re-release. It’s so raw and angry sounding and a bit more unique.

cabs > eq, cabs are so much better at getting a radically different sound than eqs, which start to sound weird when you make big adjustments.

  • @metalinsights9664
    @metalinsights9664 ปีที่แล้ว

I am not really familiar with Lamb of God's work, but I just listened to the song, and from what I can tell, their guitar tone has a little more hair, more scooped, and a little more modern. I think the DSL20 would have been a good match for that kind of tone, as the DSL20 has an overall softer, more modern EQ profile, especially if mic'd right.

It's hard to explain how I hated that tone
It was the epitome of then emerging new wave of american metal (or whatever its called)
After a decade of scooping suddenly an online horde formed the midds are king scooping is for newbs opinion.
Suddenly Justice for all Demanufacture Pantera Burn My Eyes were labeled hollow and all was replaced with these no botom no top middletone that had no proper weight or agression to it
I grew to like it later on
Had to in the absence of anything I really craved
but the scoop era is still king 🤴
    Always will be
