Good morning Gawa wow you are phenomenal love all your cooking videos thank you for the way you explain so beautifully and easy . I have made plenty of your dishes aswell as you're baking recipes and it's a great success everytime 💃💃🤸♀️🤸♂️👍👍 now my next question is I have 2 big tubs of plain joghurt don't want it to go off can I substitute it in the BOLLAS instead of butter milk . Thanks and have a great day and blessings please stay on the channel we love you and your videos ❤
Just found your channel. I am from KZN so looking to learn some delish recipes found in the Cape. I have had bollas at a friend and I love them!!! Love and blessings
Unfortunately not u need the buttermilk u can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup /250ml milk let it stand for 10 minutes
Hello Gawa. Thank you for your video. Can you freeze the bolla's after they have been fried? I'd like to make a batch then just sugar when I need to again. Thank you.
I freeze mine and it's still good. But not longer than a month. Freeze in airtight container or zip lock bag....make sure no ice come in contact with the bolla. Let the donuts cool down before you store them. Otherwise, they'll sweat and turn soggy. Once the donuts have cooled to room temperature, place them in a storage container. For these purposes, an airtight, food-safe, storage container is best.
Gawa thanks for your nice bollas recipe. I made it the first time 2 weeks ago and came out perfectly. Now all of a sudden if came out so oily with thich crusty skin. What a I doing wrong??
I have grownup with this recipe and it was made by grandmother that was not a muslem but a Boertannie from the boland i am wondering why cape malai was the recipe a original malai recipe because up and recent its still getting sold at church basaars in the boland and considerd a traditional boer recipe ps you recipe is exactly how it made all the years
I guess everyone has there traditions I grew up and my parents by calling it bollas and Indian households call them goolgoolas the cape malay comes in because we add spices such as cardamom and cinnamon, same with koesisters the malay version you have your version of a koeksisters the twisty one that's soaked in cold syrup
Looks scrumptious. I can never get this right. I dunno why but definitely gonna try. Looks so easy the way you do it. Can you tell me what the grams of the flour is exactly or show me the cup you used for the flour, kanala. cos I think this is where I'm going wrong. My consistency maybe is to firm or to loose.😜i would be so greatful.. Go well and may yiur channel above and beyond, Aameen love your head gear.💕
Wslm it's a cake measuring cup u get at the shop u usually get a set that says 1 cup,1/2 cup,1/3 cup and so fort,it will also show 250ml on the cup but if u have a scale then it's 125g flour so 4 cups of flour is 500g,liquid u measure in ml and flour in grams,so when any recipe mentions a cup of flour it's the cake measuring cup😊hope that helps and shukran for watching 💖
Hi Gawa. Firstly, thank you for this recipe. This is a must try, however I'm not in SA currently and they don't stock buttermilk in the supermarkets here. Can i substitute the buttermilk for plain yoghurt?
You're very welcome I'm sure u can but if it's a bit thick just add bit of milk to thin it out,or try making buttermilk by using 1 cup of milk+ 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice let it sit until it for few minutes
Not supposed to be oily Make sure your measurements is correct leave batter 15-20 minutes before frying and your oil might have not been to hot,if oil is not the right temperature it's likely to absorb into the dough, other then that I'm not sure why it never happened to me.
U can use 3/4 cup plain full fat or double cream yogurt mixed with 1/4 cup milk or use 1 cup milk add 2 tablespoons lemon juice let it sit for 10 minutes but personally I do prefer using store bought buttermilk but u can use one of the substitutions.
Really not sure what u doing wrong but not supposed to separate u can read in comments section of many that tried it and never mention separation, perhaps your batter is to thin, make sure your measurements are correct use cake measuring cups and spoons.
Hi maybe u should turn up your volume dear because I can hear clearly what I'm saying I don't have a mic because this is not my job I just post recipes what I enjoy making I'm not a big enough youtuber to get companies to sponsor me so I get paid and most people skip the ads on the videos so after this video has been up for more then a year I haven't even gotten my money back from the ingredients I bought,so sorry that's the best sound u gonna get for now, hopefully God willing one day I will get a company to sponsor me.

Hello Gawa. Thank you for your video. Can you freeze the bolla's after they have been fried? I'd like to make a batch then just sugar when I need to again. Thank you.
Hi Miss Elle unfortunately can't be frozen but can be placed in fridge before syruping

Gawa thanks for your nice bollas recipe. I made it the first time 2 weeks ago and came out perfectly.
Now all of a sudden if came out so oily with thich crusty skin. What a I doing wrong??
Your oil could be to hot when u start frying or it's to cold so it obsorbs more oil,it's difficult to say because I'm not there to see.
Ps not my recipe I did not create it,its just a recipe my parents and grandparents used.

Hi Gawa. Firstly, thank you for this recipe. This is a must try, however I'm not in SA currently and they don't stock buttermilk in the supermarkets here. Can i substitute the buttermilk for plain yoghurt?

Hi can bollas b freez
Assalamu alykum Gawa how do you get your donuts so round.
Wslm I do show in the video, it just comes out round I just dip my spoon in cold water,at around 3:40 in the video
I would like to know how u put the bollas in the oil cause the batter is so runny do u take a dessert spoon full or
Can i use selfraising flour
Yes u can just leave out the baking powder
Tried this recipe came out lovely but too oily inside pls let me know what went wrong oil was at good temperature tia
Not supposed to be oily Make sure your measurements is correct leave batter 15-20 minutes before frying and your oil might have not been to hot,if oil is not the right temperature it's likely to absorb into the dough, other then that I'm not sure why it never happened to me.
Looks Devine, pls give exact recipe for half amount.
The ingredients is in the description box below the video just halve everything so 4 cups flour will be 2 and 2 cups buttermilk will be 1 and so on
Good day how do you store the dough for tomorrow
You can place it in the fridge I guess I never kept left over dough
Substitute for buttermilk please
U can use 3/4 cup plain full fat or double cream yogurt mixed with 1/4 cup milk or use 1 cup milk add 2 tablespoons lemon juice let it sit for 10 minutes but personally I do prefer using store bought buttermilk but u can use one of the substitutions.
@@gawaskitchen 🤗
Hi can I freeze the bollas
I never do,I always just keep it in the fridge but some people have placed them in freezer
thats sus making some bollas like ayo
How much buttermilk was that you added?
Hi Carol did u watch the video because I do mention 2 cups ?500ml
Can i use sour milk instead of buttermilk?
You can try and let me know how it turns out,I can't say cause never tried making it with sour milk
@@gawaskitchen i normally use sour milk but bcos ur recipe say buttermilk
@@gawaskitchen slm Gawa.i used the sour milk & it came out perfect.shukran
@@faezahjulie glad to hear
Hi, just a question why is the bollas I make not round 😮 not
Not sure is your batter perhaps to runny can't really advise as I not there to see
Shukran for not calling our Bollas "drop doughnuts" it will be plain insulting.. now i need a damn bolla😉
This is my second time trying this recipe but my doughnuts doesn't fry properly it seperates
Really not sure what u doing wrong but not supposed to separate u can read in comments section of many that tried it and never mention separation, perhaps your batter is to thin, make sure your measurements are correct use cake measuring cups and spoons.

Soooooooo happy not yeast
Write.down.the sruff u must have
Try looking in the description box u might see it there or even better watch the video
