+delgado9797 It's not about destroying him, but it sounds somewhat funny because he was using the term "extremely proprietary" while it's "extremely standard" ;-) Although in his defense it's not used that often. Mainly because for fast external device like external HDD's micro type B is used.
That cable is not proprietary, it's a type B USB connector (you may have seen some, they were common in printers and old external hard drives and things) except it's USB 3.0. Very unusual nowadays since most peripherals use Micro USB and USB type C, but still standard.
Definitely nice being able to get that Kinect adapter! A friend of mine had actually assumed I had the One S and was trying to bug me for that adapter, mainly for PC related tinkering.
12:19 that's a USB 3.0 type B SuperSpeed connector (see the SS logo on the cable). It's the USB 3.0 equivalent of the old type B USB 1.1 / 2.0 connector.
Hey adam, it's not a preparatory USB cable, it's actually a USB 3.1 Superspeed type B connector. The regular one is used by printers mostly. The reason microsoft uses them is because they are a bit of a pain to find a replacement. But I actually like the type B connectors more than the type A, they just are easier to identify which side up.
I had the same intentions as you when it came to waiting for the Scorpio, but I ended up getting the blue Gears of War edition from GameStop as a Christmas gift. I didn't even ask for it either so it was quite a pleasant surprise. Interestingly enough it came with a physical copy of Gears which was also a nice surprise. I was able to trade my day one Xbone towards the Switch. Keep up the good work dude.
ThatEverything720 I would have held out for RyZen but I had already been saving up the cash to build a PC for 2-3 years by then. I ended up just pulling the trigger and buying an i5 6500 with an RX 470. I hope RyZen is good enough to make me want to sell my CPU for something much better at a similar price.
last december the xbox one s went on sale everywhere in my town for $179 so i gave my dad my day one edition xbox one to replace his ps3 that died and bought myself a xbox one s
I actually picked up my Xbox One S in late March for $259.99 on Jet. I picked up the BF1 Green 1TB edition with a copy of the game. After taxes I paid $274.99. I'd say an amazing deal for a box that retails at $350+ tax. As someone who still plays on a 1080p TV, and with zero intention to upgrade my TV anytime soon, I was just waiting for the console to drop in price enough.
AdamKoralik Sorry came out harsher than it meant to be. Because USB 3 runs more voltage it requires more grounding that's what that extra metal piece is.
+Carter Baker The reason isn't that they require more grounding. USB 3.0 Type B connectors have nine pins, several more than the four pins found in previous USB Type B connectors, to allow for the faster USB 3.0 data transfer rate. Those pins had to go somewhere so the previous Type B shape had to be altered somewhat.
datunes The primary reason is grounding they could of put it a much smaller ,but to meet the requirements of the voltage more surface area was needed. The extra pins are one reason they had to make the connector bigger, but not that large.
Carter Baker No not for grounding, im an electrical engineer. For USB 1.0 & 2.0 type A to type B cable the difference in shape was an intentional feature designed to prevent connecting a host to another host, which could cause a short circuit. Then for USB 3.0 they changed the shape of the type B interface for the reason detailed in my previous comment.
Thats a USB type A to type B cable. The difference in shape was an intentional feature designed to prevent connecting a host to another host, which could cause a short circuit.
I actually traded my PS Vr in for a PS Pro and XBOX ONE S. Whatever. I really liked the VR but I wanted to expand my gaming library on the other platform. I never had the original Xbox one so the S made plenty of sense.
SlipStream yeah but don't you have to constantly update hardware and drivers and other things? I'm a console gamer to the core. My friends had PC's in the 16 bit era and I'd play Doom and Wolfenstein. Don't get me wrong I'd have a PC too for gaming but there is no substitute for classic gaming hardware and software.
The USB-cable is just USB-3 port B, the replacement for the old USB-port B. Simply put port -B is what we used on home-printers before they "all" became wireless
The main reason the Kinect adapter needs its own power supply is because the USB type A slots have a very low limit as to the amount of power they can provide to the hardware. That's why MS probably went with their own connector for Kinect as it would have been able to provide more power. Oh, and, the USB connector at 12:10 is just the standard Type B 3.0 male header. It's kinda rare compared to most other USB variants but it's definitely out there on many non-MS devices.
I actually want a Xbox One S, I'm a PC gamer, and I on a whim I got a PS4 because I tend to side to Sony before Microsoft before I became a PC gamer like a decade ago. But I want the One S to be a 4K bluray player that just so happens play games as well. But I want to wait for the Scorpio to release and people to sell them used locally.... I hope a whole bunch show up and I can haggle people down real good. I already have a spot on my TV stand planned out for it, ontop of my old original release date 360, and get a white One S like yours to match. Also pre ordered a Switch on Amazon the first minute pre orders started.... still trying to figure out where it will sit...
I bought the Xbox One S GOW 4 bundle at launch, and could not believe how awful the 30FPS gameplay was on Horde. It looked like it was playing in slow-motion. Even compared to GOW3 on the 360 it looked awful, GOW3 looked superior framerate wise. I ended up building a PC and could not be happier. GOW4 looks FANTASTIC at 1080p / 60fps. I am also playing Forza and Killer Instinct on PC. I highly recommend going the PC route.
Also, I love Microsoft for their customer service. I bought a controller and the buttons stuck all the time. I called them and they just sent a new one no questions asked. Cool that they send free Kinect adapters!
I may be wrong, but my guess is the figure 8 power cable he showed you can put in either way and it works, so either side can be the + or -. The other ones can only go in one way, so one sides always + and the other always -. So if you loss the figure 8 its easier to take the same cord from somwthing else and the others are less common? Just a guess. Polarised being plus or minus I assume
Well, from the wall comes AC-power. That's Alternating Current, which means the polarity of electricity changes 50 or 60 times a second (depending what your country uses, 60Hz on USA). So it doesn't make any difference, which way one plugs in the cable...
Its a good improvement. The only problems with it are that its not completely quiet, and the kinect usb cabling is ridiculously messy in comparison to the original
I have that model bundle that you chose, and I think it's great, because it's my new 8th generation choice, a second chance to get back in there after the Wii U, and I now have had this for a month now, and I love it. Because I can now finally play the games that I have been anticipating to play, 25 games at this time, and I have only got one (Fallout 4), which killed me over 100 hours.
Don't see the point of buying an Xbox One Slim if you already own an Xbox One fair enough if your a first time Xbox One buyer but if you already own one you might as well wait for the scorpio. It's the same as buying a PS4 Slim when you already have a standard PS4 pointless.
True but it's just a slimmed down version of the original so still counts as the same console as far as I'm concerned and will he still collect consoles next gen as he said he won't buy games when they go digital only which will be next gen minus the switch which is a next gen handheld.
Why but he has said on several videos that once games go digital only he will be done with modern gaming so in around 2019-2020 there's no way games will be released physically on PS5 so as a collector will he just buy the console without actually playing it and put it on a shelf. I'm a collector and gamer myself so was just a thought.
When I got my Kinect adaptor, the email said 4-6 weeks. 1 Day later I get the email that it shipped, the very next day it arrives in the mail. Glad I picked it up for nothing... however.. I unplugged my Kinect very early on and never looked back.
Hey Adam, longtime fan. I just picked up an Xbox One S a couple weeks ago, purchased the kinect adapter (Didn't know about getting them free from Microsoft). I plan on upgrading my TV to 4k this year and use Netflix and Amazon Prime extensively so made sense to go for the mew console. Also having an 8 year old son who games and a missus obsessed with Assassins Creed we constantly fought over the TV, but not now, kept the old Xbox one and moved it into the bedroom. Only issue I have now is with game-sharing and the whole "home console" thing, causes headache with my son having to have me logged in upstairs to play Minecraft (as digital copy from 2015 was registered under my profile originally). If you don't plan on using the digital code for Minecraft fancy giving it away to a good cause? Seriously though, they need to allow for multiple home consoles, same problem doesn't exist with the xbox360 ( I got two of those too). All the best, keep up the good work.
So are you more of an Xbox guy or PS4 guy as we are going into 2017? Disclaimer, I have a PS4 but i am in no way a fanboy of Sony. Gaming is gaming to me and the only thing, in my opinion, that sets these 2 brands apart are exclusives.
That's a shame I would pick one up anyway xbox 360 backwards compatibility works well and improves alot of games on the 360 that had framerate issues as well as graphically improving some games such as Call Of Duty 2 and Alice Madness Returns and American Mcgee's Alice these are just 3 of the meny examples.
something funny, is that i use the HDMI in to plug my elgato into it and use it as a port for my GameCube since my TV only has one component/composite thing
I love my one s its the first console revision I actually like quieter, smaller, and no more huge power brick and I realized it doesn't get as hot after long use could cook a steak on the old one after a few hours lol
I have the Lunar White controller too (it's great for PC). How do you find it in use Adam? It's my personal favourite (and pretty), really comfortable.
Hey Adam, I've got quite an unusual problem with my Dreamcast. The unit will run any game I own(except for Shenmue) for 15-20 minutes, but after that it resets and brings me to the dashboard. And when I try to boot up the game again it either shows the this product is licensed by sega load screen and then brings me back to the dashboard or it just simply won't read the disc at all when I press play. (it actually does read the discs as I can play their sounds using the cd-playing option on the dashboard)
that's just a standard full sized usb 3.0 cable ur probably not use to seeing it because most use 3.0 stuff dont use the full sized connector most use mini or micro.
Microsoft was selling refurbished original xbox ones for $160 on ebay over black friday. I bit on that deal. I didn't see enough reason to go for the S, especially considering it's my secondary gaming console. S does look nice though.
Ok a 5:00 minute note to all of you guys. why this connection is bad ? Because it is not earthed . Meaning any electrical spike or electrostatic spike goes and stays directly to console electronics. Convenience of using same cable is one thing but changing designs for few lazy yanks that feel it all should be the same cables for consoles 40 years back isn't that really good in the end. So you get convenience that you may or may not use to begin with and a 100 % more chance of getting your hardware dead
I'Il give props to Microsoft and the nice packaging artwork, Sony's has nice pretty pictures on the back and that's it with cheap brown egg containers however Microsoft lets the artwork go all the way inside the box I don't know why I'm rambling about a box...
I went with a PS4 over the Xbox One. The thing is, I want an Xbox One now, but at this point, I might as well just wait for the Scorpio. How much longer till the Scorpio?
That's how I finally picked up a PS4 when I had a promotion from Amazon and ended up getting a PS4 Slim for only $160 after tax. Still want one of these but my launch Xbox One is still running fine. #1stWorldGamerProblems
Adam Koralik The way you were explaining the ports made it sound like you didn’t know why they had them, but how else could you hook it up to the tv. Were it not for them. Maybe I misunderstood.
I just got an Xbox One S recently for my birthday didn't really plan on upgrading to it anytime soon because 1 I only have to games for it and two honestly The whole scalebound thing left some hesitation behind for me. I was hopeing for Scalebound to be the third game I bought and also the third reason for me to finally bite the bullet but it never happened. I got the Xbox One S as a gift however so it's not that I'm not happy with it. It's just means I don't have alot of games to play on it lucky for me I kept my 360 slim so I have more stuff to play on it.
Linn Rooney the xbox one s is only for 4k streaming unfortunately. The PS4 pro offers some 4k gaming, or you can wait for the more powerful Xbox scorpio coming later this year
The "extremely proprietary" USB cable it's just the 3.0 version of what they use in printers
I was thinking the same. It's a USB type B 3.0
David Robitaille lol. extreme proprietary.
He made a simple mistake DESTROY HIM!!!
+delgado9797 It's not about destroying him, but it sounds somewhat funny because he was using the term "extremely proprietary" while it's "extremely standard" ;-) Although in his defense it's not used that often. Mainly because for fast external device like external HDD's micro type B is used.
Yeah, Adam doesn't set up many printers, I guess.
That cable is not proprietary, it's a type B USB connector (you may have seen some, they were common in printers and old external hard drives and things) except it's USB 3.0. Very unusual nowadays since most peripherals use Micro USB and USB type C, but still standard.
That connector at 12:07 is USB type B 3.0 connector, my both monitors has that connector for the USB 3.0 hub.
I never typically get slim versions if I already own consoles but I actually did the S because of the size! So much easier to travel with!
I'm so excited for when Adam reaches 100,000 subscribers. Wonder what Adam has in store to celebrate!
Probably will be a while.

Would you ever do a handheld retrospective??
Adam has said many times that he isin't into handhelds, you have to wonder how many handhelds he actually owns.
TheLWebb100 this has been asked before and he has said he might do one. Though it is important to know he doesn't really play on handhelds.
Devin Schug Oh ok thanks.
All of them. He buys crap for no reason.
12:20 i've seen that kind of plug on some random external hdd docks, the ones shaped like toasters
Yep, is a USB 3.0 Standard-A receptacle cable, the most common is the Micro-B USB 3.0.
You are wrong that is a standard USB 3 cable most scanners and some external drives use it.
Oh well.

Great Video dude! I like the way you unboxed and reviewed it ,detailed and all ,by far the best review for the xbox one S that I have seen
These 500GB Xbone S' are weird because they have a DVR HDD in them: the Seagate ST500VT000
The USB-cable is just USB-3 port B, the replacement for the old USB-port B. Simply put port -B is what we used on home-printers before they "all" became wireless
Nice vid, I also upgraded to the s too, one of the tings I'm happy about is the fact that they upgraded the wireless card and now it supports 802.11ac

connect the kinect to the kinect box so it can connect and the kinect will be connected right.
yeah my dad got this in December, I like it and the controller looks very good.
Unfortunately the Sega Saturn, PS2, PS1, and Dreamcast have polarized power cables. Great vid man, thanx
>polarized power cables
Please explain.
I may be wrong, but my guess is the figure 8 power cable he showed you can put in either way and it works, so either side can be the + or -. I always wondered how that works, I was scared I'd fry my Saturn if it was the wrong way up, but it works both ways which super confuse me.
I have the original X1 in white now everyone thinks it's an oneS but overweight.
Edmundo studios the original white xbox one was sexy
Edmundo studios Same.
Yea your XBX1 most of really let itself good
Adam, do you support HD remasters and compilations or do you prefer sticking with the originals?
Re-releases always break something that wasn't broken originally.
ThePreciseClimber yeah, I think you are right.
The HDR is amazing its very cool. I got the gears 4 edition after Christmas so happy I upgraded. Still planning on getting the Scorpio.
I was just giving one of these to my brother, and as I was walking in the street a guy pointed at the box and said "That's a classic!" lol!!
waste of money if you already got an Xbox One. Save your money, the Switch and Scorpio come out soon.
Midnight In The Cathedral yeah looking forward to both!
I'm definitely not rushing out to buy the Scorpio when it drops, I'm keeping my slim for a while. The XB1 S controller is fantastic!!
Looking in good shape Adam!
That proprietary connector is a USB 3 type a connector commonly used with external hard drive enclosures or printers
It's not actually proprietary
Its a good improvement. The only problems with it are that its not completely quiet, and the kinect usb cabling is ridiculously messy in comparison to the original
i have that same issue when i turn my tv on i bump my xbox and it turns on
I have that model bundle that you chose, and I think it's great, because it's my new 8th generation choice, a second chance to get back in there after the Wii U, and I now have had this for a month now, and I love it.
Because I can now finally play the games that I have been anticipating to play, 25 games at this time, and I have only got one (Fallout 4), which killed me over 100 hours.

wizzgamer Yeah it is. But Adam is a collector. Dude buys games just to complete a collection. So collectors gonna collect.
True but it's just a slimmed down version of the original so still counts as the same console as far as I'm concerned and will he still collect consoles next gen as he said he won't buy games when they go digital only which will be next gen minus the switch which is a next gen handheld.

He likes filling his gaping void in his soul- I mean apartment with stuff so get off his back.
+wizzgamer there won't be a Ps5 no more systems are being made after this gen
the following video is part of our quick shoot series...
just got that package you've got with an extra controller off Microsoft site for 219.00 pound really cheap
When I got my Kinect adaptor, the email said 4-6 weeks. 1 Day later I get the email that it shipped, the very next day it arrives in the mail. Glad I picked it up for nothing... however.. I unplugged my Kinect very early on and never looked back.

Check out the cable guide on that beast way better then the standard one that your service provider offers
My friend has a few cats, and they sometimes play with the power "sensor". An actual button would have been better in that instance.
I'm still waiting for a game on the Xbox One I want. The only one is D4 and that's download only...
What about We Happy Few Cuphead or Forza Horizon 3.
Nivada Strikes don't like racing and I don't download
That's a shame I would pick one up anyway xbox 360 backwards compatibility works well and improves alot of games on the 360 that had framerate issues as well as graphically improving some games such as Call Of Duty 2 and Alice Madness Returns and American Mcgee's Alice these are just 3 of the meny examples.
Hey Adam where do u store all of ur games ?
Upgraded to the One S myself. Pretty nifty.
something funny, is that i use the HDMI in to plug my elgato into it and use it as a port for my GameCube since my TV only has one component/composite thing
I love my one s its the first console revision I actually like quieter, smaller, and no more huge power brick and I realized it doesn't get as hot after long use could cook a steak on the old one after a few hours lol
I hope you have fun with it my friend
Thanks.
It's annoying how the minecraft version doesn't have a stand included I ended up buying one afterwards
Although I have no plans to buy it, the XBOX One S is the best looking home console since the PSone,
I have the Lunar White controller too (it's great for PC). How do you find it in use Adam?
It's my personal favourite (and pretty), really comfortable.
Agreed, I like it a lot more than the standard controller. I thought, at first, it was a simple repaint. But those textured grips are quite nice.
For sure! The bumpers are much easier to click too, I'm also glad they stuck with the 3.5mm headphone jack after adding it post-launch. :)
Hey Adam, I've got quite an unusual problem with my Dreamcast. The unit will run any game I own(except for Shenmue) for 15-20 minutes, but after that it resets and brings me to the dashboard. dude, show us your setup and let's see how all these are hooked up.
bought my son this version for xmas... Forza Horizon 3 looks out of this world on it!
Great video as always Adam
Thanks!
Amazon had them for $212 on Cyber monday. Couldn't turn it down.
Your unboxings are a.ways the best!
Thanks.
that's just a standard full sized usb 3.0 cable ur probably not use to seeing it because most use 3.0 stuff dont use the full sized connector most use mini or micro.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the OG Xbox need a certain lump on the power cable for it to work?
+David Trabon Didn't need that.
got a link for that external hd you have? i just bought the 1tb special edition xbone s last month and i only have 60gb left haha
Microsoft was selling refurbished original xbox ones for $160 on ebay over black friday. I bit on that deal. I didn't see enough reason to go for the S, especially considering it's my secondary gaming console. S does look nice though.
What is the IR blaster for?
herohunter81 if can make your Xbox turn on and control your audio system, cable box etc
Should I pick up an Xbox 360 (E) to play retro games like Red Dead Redemption?
can rdr even be considered retro yet
Para Soul to 12 year olds it is retro because they weren't born yet
samstar2 Xbox one is backwards compatible with a lot of 360 games including rdr
I would recommend the (S) over the (E), however, on the off-chance some day you need one of those outputs. Plus, it's usually a touch cheaper.
get a orginal xbox 360 that's a jasper unit mfg. sept. 2008- june 2010(they go for $30-80) and have a very low rrod failure rate
Adam, I've always wondered, do you keep all the boxes and paperwork to the consoles and accessories like that Kinect Port? Or just for certain stuff?
Some stuff, not all. No intention of keeping the Kinect box.
You can Ebay the game code and bring the cost to under $200.
Nice unboxing video Adam!
Thanks!
cool tech video talk adam about the xbox one s did you like it and still have it
I use the HDMI in to play my 360 through the one. not enough HDMI ports on my TV.
What are the Aa batteries for? Does it come with a remote for the blue ray player he didnt show?
It's for the controller.
I thought it was a Scorpio that came with 4K player not the S. or at least that's what I heard.
Adam can you help me my N64 reset button is stuck
I'Il give props to Microsoft and the nice packaging artwork, Sony's has nice pretty pictures on the back and that's it with cheap brown egg containers however Microsoft lets the artwork go all the way inside the box
I don't know why I'm rambling about a box...
The cable is a USB 3.0 Super Speed.
I went with a PS4 over the Xbox One. The thing is, I want an Xbox One now, but at this point, I might as well just wait for the Scorpio. How much longer till the Scorpio?
Have you switched console of choice? I notice you bought a lot more Xbox one stuff lately
Hey Adam so I bought this ps2 from Europe do you think It is possible to play here in the United States.
William Perez the ps2 is region locked so you won't be able to play and NA titles
what if you don't have a 4k TV?
The power cable also works with the Toshiba Nuon if anyone else cares about that "console".
That's really funny I just got that same version in the mail today lol
Nice video Adam!
Thanks!
its a usb 3.0 printer cable I have one for my bluray/dvd burner
figure it out ! FIRST
Adam is the best.
He ruins everything
Hell yeah I do! Fuck things or whatever your problem is.
that's why he's the best.
I love my gears of war slim Xbox I also have the 2 TB for my son great upgrade
That USB cable, just has a USB3.0 B end, it isn't proprietary.
That's how I finally picked up a PS4 when I had a promotion from Amazon and ended up getting a PS4 Slim for only $160 after tax. Still want one of these but my launch Xbox One is still running fine. #1stWorldGamerProblems
I noticed you changed your channel icon. ???
How do you use it if you don’t use HDMI cable?
Not an option with this console.
Adam Koralik The way you were explaining the ports made it sound like you didn’t know why they had them, but how else could you hook it up to the tv. Were it not for them. Maybe I misunderstood.
I didn't know there was still support for Minecraft on consoles lol.
so wait can you buy it?
No, it's illegal
No, it's illegal
I just got an Xbox One S recently for my birthday didn't really plan on upgrading to it anytime soon because 1 I only have to games for it and two honestly The whole scalebound thing left some hesitation behind for me. I was hopeing for Scalebound to be the third game I bought and also the third reason for me to finally bite the bullet but it never happened. I got the Xbox One S as a gift however so it's not that I'm not happy with it. It's just means I don't have alot of games to play on it lucky for me I kept my 360 slim so I have more stuff to play on it.
is it worth it?how many 4k games are there?
Linn Rooney the xbox one s is only for 4k streaming unfortunately. The PS4 pro offers some 4k gaming, or you can wait for the more powerful Xbox scorpio coming later this year
