Would love to know how you deal with barking issue. Mine throws a fit at the slightest noise in the hallway and growls at anyone coming too close. It seems to diminish with age and training but the progress is way too slow 🤔
We are having the same issue with our shiba. He loves people and dogs but some things seem to trigger him barking like mad. Things like you've mentioned eg. When he hears loud people outside our house or people coming directly at us. When that happens, it is really hard to make him listen to me and I have tried some stuff but not sure if it is working. Would be very helpful to see how you are training Aoki.
As the beautiful boy, Aoki, is your first dog, it is understandable that there are lots of things to become accustomed to and get your head around. It's not surprising you feel that way from time to time; hate is a strong word, though. It is great that you also share the difficulties of owning a dog like a Shibe because far too many people have a rose-tinted view of owning one, as they are the most memeable dogs on the internet. It is easy to overlook that pitfall! They are real characters. It was not enough for my sister and me to simply do lots of research and then leave it at that. I had to encounter a Japanese Shiba Inu (or two) to help me make up my mind about my next dog. My sister contacted some experienced, ethical Shibe breeders on the phone. We later went to see them in a hall which was full of Shibes and Japanese Akitas. I was smitten. During the day, the breeders went out of their way (on what was a remarkably busy day) to share their tips and solid advice about what it takes to train the 'cats of the dog world'. My sister and I sensed the breeders were assessing us - are we serious about our intentions? Do we have what it takes to handle a Shibe? Can we handle a Shibe full stop? It was a valuable day and it firmed up my determination to patiently wait until there is a Shibe to call my own. I told them I was prepared to wait my turn, and that we would stay in touch. Here, my experience with rescue dogs and coping with the fallout from their previous owners turned out to be a huge advantage. Things like Shibe quirks and personalities would not come as a surprise to me but knowing that there is help and support from good, experienced Shibe breeders and owners is a bonus and a blessing. Every dog owner begins their experience with a dog - whatever the breed or not. Thank you for your channel. Please give Aoki a belly rub, a snoot boop from me ... and don't forget the Cheese Tax (a snack for Shibe)!
Ha! That kiss you got when sitting on the rock was so cute, cause voluntary kisses with Shibas are few and far between. I've got a 3 year old Shiba myself, and adore her, but kisses aren't on her shortlist to dole out all the time. I always praise her for them too, sometimes I get a second one. Aoki is a good boy, he's got the traits just like any shiba, but you've done a good job of raising a balanced Shiba. Do you still treat for like high fives, or shakes? Mia will offer a paw, but don't you dare grab it or the game is over haha! Do you do enrichement activities when you are home? Like treat balls where they have to rotate the ball just right in order for the treat to fall through, or even easier- take a 1 liter Evian bottle roll up some paper towels into balls, and add treats that are small enough to fit through the bottle opening. You can even add some treats to the middle of the paper towel balls for an extra surprise. Yes, this is messy, you will need to pick up little pieces of paper but your dog will have a blast between trying to spill everything out of the bottle, shred the paper towels, and get all the treats. We do this for Mia about 2x a week and it's her favorite indoor activity. We use 2-liter bottles and screw the cap on for extra challenge and she still cracks that cap off in less than 3 minutes. Its so fun to watch them learn and figure it out on their own.
The water bottle trick is so smart! I Will try it out! And yes for shakes, Aoki would pull his paw out whenever I grab his paw but stopped giving treats. Now that I think of it, maybe I should revert back to reinforcing random paw grabbing!
I hate what a little cutie my boi is so that when I'm between meetings and trying to grab a coffee I get distracted and have to give him all the shnoot kisses, yes I do, who's my bood boi?
i have a 9 weeks old shiba inu girl, watching all of your videos ^^. I love to see your experience, please keep going
That's awesome! Thank you so much 🥹 enjoy your new pup!!!

Same here very slow progress tbh but I am persistent. Will try to do a video about it one day :)

Hello, what sizes do you use for Aoki's harness and collars? :)
He’s a size medium with Peachy Dogs. And a XS with Ruffwear

😂😂😂😂
Dissapointed in the clickbait.
Thanks for your comment. The idea was to share the things I dislike about him even though there aren’t a lot. 🤷🏻♀️
