It is so great to be able to go for a hike with your dogs and let them run free. They look so happy. We live in Tokyo and have to take our dogs to a special "dog run" to let them off leash. We can't imagine a huge wide open wilderness all to ourselves like you have. Never take it for granted.

True. You'd have to drive to next prefecture(or prefecture after that) and then head to the mountains to find a quiet enough spot to let dogs free without someone getting antsy about it. Obviously not a realistic plan if you're living in Tokyo.

I live in Southwestern Pennsylvania. A good pair of hiking boots are worth it. And your doggos are beautiful and no one is really afraid of them being off leash.

Great footage of your free running pups. I feel very lucky to let mine run free on just 3 acres, but am still jealous of your free walk where there are no people or roads visible in any direction. Do the kangaroos hassle the dogs at all, or are the dogs higher up the food chain?
Nice intro to salomon hiking boots, I'd used salomon ski bindings in the 1970s, they didn't even make ski boots or skis back then, let alone hiking boots!

@@patclark6032 I'm very lucky! Or I was, anyway - we've moved to town since I filmed this.
The kangaroos can definitely be dangerous to dogs but only if they end up in a confrontation. My dogs all have great recalls and I try not to let them out of my sight.
That's cool that you remember using salamon ski bindings - - I've never been skiing but I've always wanted to try it. I'm an avid rollerblader and the movement seems similar.

@shepherds.pie.youtube yes, your dogs look very well trained (and cute!). I wanted a GSD, but I'm older and decided to get a "golden shepherd", hoping the golden retriever part would provide a little balance to the German shepherd half. Didn't quite work out that way! He's 97 pounds of raw energy. Looks exactly like a golden retriever, except all black. I took him through private training, but I think he needs another round!

@@patclark6032 ahaha yes it's always a gamble when you go for a cross-breed like that! He sounds cool. I hope he settles down for your sake though!

@@shepherds.pie.youtube my ex-boss had 3 "golden shepherds", which is what convinced me to try that mix. He'll be two in a couple of weeks, and is a great friend and is settling down. Haven't had him neutered yet since vets seem to be advising to wait for larger dogs. But he is strong willed on occasions. I watched another of your vids and am very impressed with your dog training - for some reason TH-cam fed me your hiking shoe video first. I originally had intentions of training him for competitions like you have done, but quickly discovered it wasn't as much fun as "play, play, play" you talked about with Fable. He is smart enough, but I'm not patient enough for that amount of training. Although I have an uncountable number of hours throwing balls. I have found that racquetballs are perfect for dogs. Buy them in 12 packs from Amazon, indestructible and easy to clean, unlike tennis balls.

Good boots are a dog owner's second best friend. After all, you're spending a lot of time on your feet with your dog outdoors. Wearing double-socks might also be worthwhile if you're taking a long hike with dogs. Man I miss hiking with my dog, he was so reinvigorated when he got to run free in a completely new environment all day

Good quality Hiking boots unfortunately are expensive but absolutely worth it. I also have a really decent pair and they are also water proof. They are so amazing and comfortable and make hiking easy and fun. So do not worry about having paid alot for your boots as they will probably last for many years and be totally worth it.
