Nasser got so emotional speaking about Graham. It tells a lot about how good a mate Graham was to Nasser and Atherton.

Listening to Nasser especially and the bond they had really made me tear up. Heartbreaking....

I don't watch much cricket these days but you'd always be impressed with how eloquent Nas and Athers are in very difficult circumstances. Thorpe was easily England's best player in his era and it's so sad what happened to him. RIP Graham.

As an Aussie, I remember Thorpe's strength and skill in a period where we were way better than England. He handled our bowlers better than any other Englishman of the time. He was a quality player. Sadly missed.

Thank you for those kind words. I always felt he was the one England batsman the Aussies truly rated and respected. Nobody from the mid 90s to mid noughties could look as comfortable as him against the finest attacks of the day. Post Gooch and pre Pietersen. In a league of his own during most of his career.

Nasser, Thorpe, Atherton, Gough, Flintoff, etc... the great guys of that era for England.
Thorpe was such a great, concise, compact player who played authentic shots... A no hassle cricketer.. A fine fielder he was.. A great team man.

Absolutely tragic circumstances. All the best to his friends and family. Always ask your mates how they’re getting on and don’t be afraid to ask for a chat if you’re feeling low yourself. We can help each other up. Love to Nass and Athers

I grew up with Ian, Alan and Graham, and played cricket with them at Farnham for many years. We lost touch when I stopped playing, but I was absolutely devastated when I heard about Graham. I'm four years older and watched him grow up from the young kid playing for Wrecclesham, to the world class player he became. My heart breaks for the family, and I will always remember the great times I shared with Graham, Alan and Ian, on and off the field.
    Roxy.

Don’t beat yourself up Nass. MH is complicated and sometimes people can’t see a way out and act. It’s terrible but it happens and there’s nothing anyone can do at that moment, when they’re alone and they act. RIP Thorpey. You’ll be missed ❤️

Growing up in Australia in the 90s I had a plethora of batting idol options however I settled on an Englishman named Graham Thorpe. I didnt care he wasnt Australian - he was the ultimate Test batsman. Playing in a terrible side his class was endless and his ability to land counter punches and to dig his country out of a huge hole was inspirational. How on earth you kicked him to curb in 2021 is beyond me. I simply cannot think of a greater Test Match batting coach in the modern era - talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water. In a better side Graham could have averaged over 50 in Tests. I've never seen someone look so classy on a cricket pitch but also be known as a street fighter's street fighter. Legend.

Such an awful loss to cricket and heartbreaking for his family who have faced this with such wonderful warmth and dignity.
To see Mike crack last week when talking about him, and Nass today, is to be reminded just how good he was and the value of friendship.
And, damn, he was good. As Mike mentioned in his newspaper article, the best England had after Gooch/Gower and before KP/Cook. Under Fletcher, he averaged 53 with 10 centuries! That’s absolutely world class.
    Rest easy, Graham🥃

Really feeling for Nasser, Athers, and other mates of Thorpey...they would have to deal with this guilt for the rest of their lives...not something that one can just move on from...it may come back to haunt them in some way or the other...Nass just spelt it out - "Not being with Thorpey in his darkest moments"...I think everyone there is feeling the same...💔

Of course Nasser's last Test innings was a hundred at Lord's, and I doubt he would have made it (after running out Strauss) without the calming influence of Thorpe at the other end. You sort of took him for granted sometimes because he was so consistently good and made things look easy, even though they weren't.

Lovely tribute from Athers & Nasser. There's been some nonsense spoken on other video's comments about why his friends weren't there when he needed them in his darkest hour. The fact is that people more often than not show no outward signs whatsoever that something is seriously wrong & what they intend to do. Look at Gary Speed a few years ago, Dan Walker interviewed him for Football Focus the day before he took his own life & said in an interview he'd repeated that day over & over in his head wondering if he had missed something, maybe a sign that all was not well, but there was nothing. I just hope that more people will reach out & talk in these situations.
