A lot like Sir Richard Hadlee. Caddick was born in NZ. Was inspired by Hadlee I'm sure.
Huge Darren Gough fan, he had more heart in one session, every session than some bowlers have in an entire test

@@anweshchatterjee7595 There's bowling averages then there's the actual bowling in the prevailing conditions against the batsmen and you also skipped right past the part where I mentioned his attitude, which is extremely rare and which will never appear on any bowling statistics analysis. They don't hand out Wisden cricketer of the year awards to minor players.
So, if all you have is one data point like a bowling average to bring to the discussion and a "lol" as an attempt to make some kind of nebulous point about how amusing you find it all, you don't really have anything.
He was a good spearhead for us. Caddick had the more natural attributes for a quick bowler, but Goughie had the bigger heart. Cork and White also excelled in this series.
I had these highlights recorded onto tape and watched them frequently. I remember everything in this video, from the wickets, to the celebrations, the commentary (back when Mark Nicholas was listenable and uncorrupted by his later Aussie colleagues) to even the cuts, edits and voice overs. England had such a great bowling line-up in that series. Gough, Caddick, Cork and White were all incredibly dangerous in those conditions.

Probably a very important day for both countries - England got their fighting pride back after years of mediocrity by winning this series. Ambrose and Walsh finally retired after this (both were ANCIENT in bowling terms in 2000) and the WI decline really accelerated without them.

@@ankit1400 the action has many subtle intricacies in terms of Weight distribution, ball grip and balance. To perfect it you'll need to have the fitness level of Darren Gough or Richard hadlee.
He also cut the ball as well, he picked up probably 15 test wickets with his off-cutter, especially when he bowled in Australia or the West Indies.
Absolutely fascinating to watch after 20 years.....

One of most beautiful... unless you are familiar with a lot of great bowlers of earlier eras that is an unsubstantiated claim.

Bet none of the English commentators were clamoring for this headingley pitch to be called poor. Beautiful bowling by England they said. Lack of application by the West Indies they said. Well well.

Mark Nicholas is a washed up failed first class pillock when compared to the great Richie Benaud.
I absolutely loved Goughs action and would also copy it. Then for a laugh I would want to bowl like Caddick! Both top bowlers.

I remember Gough playing for Darton back in the day. His action never changed.
When a class bowler gets the inswinging yorker going there's not many better sights in cricket. I was sitting behind the arm at Hove when Goughie got it working against Sussex and he flattened them. I sat in a similar position at Edgbaston and watched Alan Donald do the same, once again to Sussex, and it felt as though he was going to get a wicket with every ball. Stand out memories!

6:36 That is the closest you will get to seeing Allan Donald bowl for England.
Almost all batsmen for West Indies in this match were left handed batsmen and their style of getting out was almost same(Ball pitching on the off stump and in-cutter coming on to off stump so left handed batsmen were either lbw or bowled).
It's easy to rag on the West Indies but lordy, those Gough deliveries would probably have got anyone in the world out.
The umpire was on the mission to always stand a finger on every appeal. 😂😅😂
I actually miss Channel 4's coverage. I actually thought they told the story and commentated from both teams' perspective.

Ridley Jacobs about as plum as you can be but Mark Nicholas insisting it was a tough decision whereas Lara's lbw was probably missing off but the commentators have no issue with it at all. Bizarre

In a sense, this shows both the strength and weakness of England. Too reliant on bowling to helpful English (particularly Headingly) conditions.
Rewind 20 years and that England team would not have lived with Holding, Garner, Roberts, Marshall, Richards etc.

I had a fiver on the draw 😂 as it gave bad weather 🌡️ days 4 and 5 😂 I was horrified when England ruined my bet 😢 by winning in just 2 days haha 😆 not really I was buzzing 😂 only time I've been happy to lose 😅

What are you talking about, man? It pitches on middle. Between then and the time it hits the pads, it's moved to middle and leg; it hits him right on the crease, and it's clearly hitting leg stump. I always found Mark Nicholas to be a total plonker.
I always hated it when the ball seamed away and was called a leg cutter by the commentators
