It's been 6 years since i've been to the states from Japan. I am a SWE at google. It's not just indians, it's with everyone. Life is hard but learn to stay alone. It's the process to discover yourself. Don't be pussy. Yes, please learn to socialize , learn to earn more. Yes , you can make millions, you just have to learn the process. I can agree back in my hometown . mom used to cook for me , wash my clothes and as a typical asian dad , my father just wanted me to get good grades and a good job with a good amount of paycheck. But, trust me, i was prepared, my mindset is very different, i like to stay in best shape possible, I eat good, I accepted that i came alone and i have to make everything on my own and fucking yes i did it. I got myself a house in Bay Area worth $1.3M. You might think , how this is possible , a japanese kid once had a dream to be successful and he is now. It doesn't matter if you are indian or not. Moreover, i think paying more than 50-60 lacs just for getting a degree isn't the smartest decision in the world. This is 110% accurate. I came to US in 2015 for masters from San Diego State and all these things happened. This video sums up the challenges we face and each and every thing mentioned in this video happens. Thanks Yudi to share the experience after watching this video i can totally agree that people dont see our struggle and just see a fraction of our lives posted on social media. Keep making such videos as they are really to the point and people need to know this before coming to US 👍🏻 #StruggleIsReal
Getting campus job depends on facilities provided by campus. In SUNY Buffalo, everyone who wanted to have a job got it on week 1 even before the classes started. They even organized buses for International students to take us to SSN office for free. Getting a full time job depends on your approach but ofcourse location do play an important role.
This is gold. I have completed both bachelor and Masters program. Yudi is 100% right. Whoever disliked the video is all the unfair roommate who getting busted haha!
Yudi J bro especially the internship and high grade part. There is a group that always goes to professors office hour before exams and assignments and there is group that never missing any career services event and sign ups fast without telling anyone. For work, there are senior who will never help unless the senior is your own country men or finds your personality good enough to help.
The same happens in India as well , When you do your graduate here in India , and live in hostels. I have studied from a college that is in UP , and OMG the politics that you face here is at another level.
I stayed away from home for my undergraduate. For initial 2 3 months every things seems cool, new friends , independent life but after that when exams come, when you search internship at that time u realize that the friends, roommates you enjoyed with are actually now jealous of you or hide things from you. All the 3 points you talked about are 110% on point and 2nd point being true in 99%cases.
Bro thanx for the details for others, i also stayed for 2 yrs in Georgia as a student, and everything you said is 100% true..almost all u mentioned, happened with me as well..although during those 2 yrs, things felt good, but now i realise that "apna desh apna hota ha".. US or other coutries are good for only those students who have all thier family living there for a long time..the biggest problem a student faces is lonliness, u wud miss ur fmily very hard.. finally im working in Faridabad (alone ) & im lovin it..while my fam lives in Ranchi..in india, howsoever bad it is, but u feel like home
This is one of the golden videos out there. To be in a developed country brings its own set of challenges. Plus, it is never easy to earn money anywhere in the world. Those who say life is awesome/breathtaking in any developed country are delusional. What is the whole pt. of having a luxury car if you are the only one to drive it and you have to go everywhere alone!? Nice video man. I really wish to meet you someday.
Why are you so underrated? You have such awesome videos and awesome videos. Please make a video for new subscribers about your life from undergrad till now. Like a series or something.
I studied and lived in US for 15 yrs. My exp is Most indian guys are over-pampered, indisciplined and are not well trained by their parents to do even basic work around the house. They suffer now for this life long laziness 😂😂
This is so damn accurate !! I mean starting with the first struggle you mentioned, I personally did not have a job for quite a long time and then COVID hit us !!! Secondly, the way you put the "Bigg Boss" scenario in place is so true, it literally feels like that at some point!! And last but not the least; anxiety, loneliness, depression, crying to sleep, waking up with stress, going through everything with a smile because you cant complaint about the stuff, everything comes in an unseen package with your visa stamp. But, everyone does it, and everybody gets through it !!! Nothing can be achieved without struggling so, to all the new students dreaming big, dream it, but also be prepared to face all the tough situation !!!! :)
I am working in Indian IT since two years now. Most of my friends are leaving to US this fall and I am not sure if I really want to go to US or it's just peer pressure. I also do not want to regret my decision either. I am very confused. Is the life in US after 10 years very good and are all these struggles worth it compared to staying in India ?
Bhai indeed you can’t compare living standards of any developed western country with that of India . Given that you come from middle class family then definitely living in any western country is much better and if you are super rich then country doesn’t even matter.
@@budgetgaming6938 bro I’m not telling randomly.even I had stayed in hostel for more then 5 years .Only culture May differ but all other stays the same .
This video is on point!! These are all exact things which a Bachelor’s student will go through. This would definitely give an insight to the students coming to US.
Thanks Yudi for sharing the "real struggles" of an International student. I personally have gone through a few of them, but one learns a lot about living life independently. Keep going with these videos! #SupportfromOhio
I am confused if I should go to US for MS. I know these struggle teaches a lot but how much worth is it ? Is life in US after 10 years worth these struggles vs life in India ? Most of my friends are going this fall but I am not sure if I really want to or it's just peer pressure.
The problem he shared with roommates is legit. Its not just in America but in India as well. Its basically anywhere you go when you are sharing rooms. It has been six years since I have been living outside from home premises moving from one location to another. I have changed a lot of roommates, lived with many individuals and trust me its not easy to adapt. But eventually you get the hang of it. When you are living with people from different background and culture; there will be differences...you have to accept and ignore certain flaws. No one is perfect, they will accept yours and you have to accept theirs.
The part where you talked about tiredness from doing on campus jobs and then how it affects your academics was very relatable. I was doing 3 different jobs in my first year, and I swear, it was quite stressful. In the end , it was all worth it, so no regrets :)
We need more videos like this, Yudi! Tell us about: 1. Veg and Non Veg issues with roomies 2. Time Management with studies, job and cleaning. 3. Will your friends/ roomies back bitch about you having International friends or dating? ( As you might have personally experienced a similar situation) 4. Free Food and Shirts Hacks!
I am coming to US in december for undergraduate... I will try to make myself mentally prepared till I am in my comfort zone, before coming. Thanks for the video🙏❤️"struggle is real"
Yudi is right on everything he has spoken. I did my MBA in 2015 and believe me, everything he said is so true. He only covered the struggle during the study period but I guess for Indians particularly because of visas , the struggle is all the time until they are there
I came to States two months back for my PhD and looking for videos if I am not alone who is facing all these issues and It is good to know that I am not ;)
@Divya Kapoor Madam, can you just share your email id or IG, would like to contact you for some information. Iam also thinking of doing Ph.D from USA. It will be really helpful if I get some information.
Trust me it's all 100 percent same in UK as well. I'm doing undergrad in Uk. That loneliness and communication gap between roomates are so true. Luckily I got one good flatmet who was even younger than me. It's all showd me what real struggle is. Doing job, assignments, cook meal, cleaning on our own is horrible. Darkest days in my life. But I know it's worth it.
Spend almost 6 years in indian hostel (boarding school) I don't know about jealousy between roommate but There was many KALESH (Chaos) when it come to cleaning (both room and dishes). There was aslo issue in sharing Bill .
Everything he mentioned is true for every student who is leaving his/her city. It’s not only about studying abroad. Anywhere you go , alone, be it in india or anywhere in the world, you will always face this. This is how the world is, and we students get to know this when we leave our houses.
I was thinking Yudi was going to sugarcoat stuff and talk completely pro student life. I am happy that you spoke the truth even though it feels bad. Coming from a guy who is in the country for 10 years and went thru this
Fuck dude!!! So true!!! I have experienced this too!! Being lonely and this feeling is so bad!! Cooking food , akele raho use mobile and akele khana khao!!! Y? Bcoz roommates side you and do groupism...This was my experience when i came in spring!! But eventually I have learned about things!! Still, long way to go and learn things!!! Stay strong and focus on your growth is what i have learnt!! And i have experienced 100% of the things you have said!!!
Toxic relationship with roommates very real. I had Indian roommates my first year. I also was unaware of it in my first year and it hampered my academic performance
This video gives reality check on a whole different level!!! Thank you for making this one... will be coming to US now with an well informed and ready mindset. It's not about other seeing ours it's just people tend to hide hard things about struggle...Now days people think that if we show reality others will think that we are weak or other people will learn something that we didn't earlier.

I should say I live in India far from home for a job. These are the exact struggles I faced here too. I am still confused about whether to face these struggles coming there or here.
*I am studying MS in the US now. It has only been like 3 months now and I feel like India is heaven. I will pack my bags and go home as soon as I clear off this fucking educational loan. USA is good for takign photos and putting them up on instagram. India is where you would feel like home, emotionally.*
Nice explanation.... I completely agree with you I went through all these struggles on F1 Visa for almost 8 years... If you are coming to US on F1 visa be prepared to face struggles, challenging situations and hardships in every aspect of student life. I have seen some of my F1 visa friends went back to India after staying 2-3 months in USA for various reasons ... If someone wants to come to USA to study stay focus and prepare to face struggles.
We can ease off some struggles if we all get united and work together as Indians in getting on campus jobs internships and share information and resources about jobs ,interns ,being compatible in rooms sharing responsibilities mutually will help.I know that's easy to say but since yudi bhai has given us an picture of reality we can prepare ourselves before we go to USA . To be a good and helping indian students community
This happened even when I moved from my village to Bangalore. Now I earn 35 LPA. The moral of the story is, India has everything but still you know, we like western stuff....
Woh isliye kyunki jinka India mein kuch nhi hota bhai woh bahar kisi v farzi University mein jaake aur trivial si jobs krke paise kmate hain. If u r talented enough u will easily earn better salary in terms of PPP here in India
Quite helpful indeed...n totally scary for ppl like me who ain't mentally prepared n still leading a comfy life style😬@yudi j can u plz make an another vlog on how to overcome all those struggles (any tactics rather than building network) also on how to prep up oneself subtly?
I am really proud that Indians like you are showcasing our country there as well and that too with so much amaze..!!Great Work Mann...Much love and support to you
Wow, really appreciate your efforts for telling us these 3 things in advance. Will try to improve the relation with roommates, and seniors. Will definitely do more household work at home , which will help me when I come on campus. Thank you so much for the reality check , I will have before coming to USA
these are common struggles, applicable in India as well.. if you are not local to the job location, you will be discriminated and sometimes feel outsider when they communicate in local language. so yes its there everywhere.
also there are absolutely gorgeous girls who are very free and open minded ....yet no one looks at you, but through you as if you are as transparent as glass.
I also seen this struggle in my college days India ..so my father always tells me take care not only health but mental health also..then we skip nurturing part of life..we learn from movie and TV shows ..and we forget there's a big team behilnd reel life...we shd consider your points.
Amazing video Yudi. Faced all of the circumstances during masters. Finally the truth has been spoken. Thanks for the video. It will be helpful for the prospective students.
Really really "Struggle is Real". You are like my big brother, mentor, best friend, god man. Your experiences really helps a lot to all students and will help me also a lot in my dreams thank you so much 😊
"Struggle is real" that's a strong statement and eventually i am going to apply for my Masters but by listening to these points i need to think about whether i can fight for real mental pressure given by society and university.
You're absolutely right. I was able to find my first on-campus job after 6 months coming in here. I can 100% relate to everything you said because I've been through all of these. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely They see your success But they can’t see your struggle. They see where you are today...! They can’t see the journey And also agree with roommates I came from israel where i had same friends 8,10 peoples who were there and we came here one by one they changed. Even if u ask them how much they pay u per hour? ( we are not asking for job details or where he is working) just simple question and they will say “its ok” or “managing..” Even one of my friend bought a car and said to me “don’t tell anyone yet..” like cmon man u already purchased it and why ur hiding it,?
Bro this also happens in India... although I understand that no one is comfortable in sharing their income details, but I asked a neighbor who is in same field (not a competitor) about how much company pays and he is like not much. And on the other hand I helped him so much and shared so much knowledge and experience without keeping any secrets. I learnt that we should be choosey on what to share with whom. But few people are not like this, always make friends having similar attitude and behavior as us.
Thanks yudi for making this video. Seeing how this actually works, in fact I wasn’t even stayed in hostel or away from home since my childhood it’s challenging for me as I’m the first person from my family going there and stepping into America. Listening to all those making me anxious but I’m confident about doing this. Seeing all those comments from students who studied and achieved what they aimed made me more focused and strong 💯.
I am watching this after 2 years I don't really think anything could have changed people are same......so thank you for such informational video mental preparation is also important.

I stayed away from home for my undergraduate. Yes, exactly
I studied and lived in US for 15 yrs. My exp is Most indian guys are over-pampered, indisciplined and are not well trained by their parents to do even basic work around the house. They suffer now for this life long laziness 😂😂
So true! I've stayed in hostel for 4 years during my bachelors in Chennai though. Can totally relate to the roommate issues scenario
101% Relatable, though My undergrad was in Jaipur.
Wow which college in chennai
Which cllg??

There is no comparison. Living in another country and facing problems is much worst.

I came from israel where i had same friends 8,10 peoples who were there and we came here one by one they changed.
Even if u ask them how much they pay u per hour? ( we are not asking for job details or where he is working) just simple question and they will say “its ok” or “managing..”
Even one of my friend bought a car and said to me “don’t tell anyone yet..”
like cmon man u already purchased it and why ur hiding it,?
Bro this also happens in India... although I understand that no one is comfortable in sharing their income details, but I asked a neighbor who is in same field (not a competitor) about how much company pays and he is like not much.
And on the other hand I helped him so much and shared so much knowledge and experience without keeping any secrets.
I learnt that we should be choosey on what to share with whom.
But few people are not like this, always make friends having similar attitude and behavior as us.
