Mainly because even if you run just the one partner as ur commander, its still worth it to run them in ur command zone, unless for some reason your not running a command tower. A pure 2 color Ukimma deck can still have the partner in the command zone at no cost, and just hope they get command tower. (not sure why you would run a partner without doing 3 colors here, but I'm playing the devil's advocate). And if money is a factor, then how are they going to build a whole deck, but not have enough for the partner? even if that somehow manages to be the case its logical that it will eventually get added, because again theres like no cost to include it deck-building wise (also theres a decent chance that the "worse" of the two will be cheaper compared to the "better" one

I would put Zaxara at higher than "5" in Power: as you mentioned there are several directions you can go with it and getting a big creature at instant speed when you cast X-countermagic is phenomenal! I would at least put him at a "7".

To comment on several of the commanders that caught my eye: Jirina: I think she gets flack because she's not flashy or unique when compared to the other commanders. That said, she's a true human tribal commander. I mean, it's hard to beat a 4 CMC creature whose a 3/3, brings at least one 3/1 body with her and gives your board a +2/+0 anthem. Given this set, the precon and Eldraine, she's got a lot to work with for human tribal or just human matters. Plus she has access to Boros combat tricks, white token producing and black tutors/draw power. Ukkima/Cazur: With this you've got Sultai colors. I would focus on Ukkima. Use stuff like Thunderfoot Baloth, Master Biomancer and such to bulk him up, having him attack and then blink him with spells, Thassa or Conjurer's Closet and watch him lower that life total.

Ok first off we need more things that make dinosaur cat tokens asap! But I do think u guys r underestimating Zaxaras power a lil bit. It is a 2 card infinite mana combo with freed from the real or pemmins aura and it is always there in your command zone. Also I really dont like the artwork on Shabraz, the sky shark. I feel like it's just so lazy, like some1 just photoshopped bird wings onto a shark. The artist could have been so much more creative or at the very least gave the shark some more feathers or the wings could have been scaled or something. Idk it just really bothers me for some reason. Great video as always guys!
My fav thing about all these human tribal cards are that I think Queen Marchesa is still gonna be the best Human Tribal commander, and these support that so well

I like your content but maybe going forward or even better redo this video if you got the time. Better to rank partners together than individual, if you wanted to just go Ukkima you still want to add Cazur because it gives you access to green and thins out your deck by 1. You dont even need to go +1+1 with Ukkima too. Just having access to green is very good. I feel like thats the direction I could take with Skyshark just play him and have access to red. I could technically wear a sandwich as a hat, but I wouldn't be getting the sandwich maker's desired effect. - Brallin gives sharks trample for red, there are 0 sharks in mono red. - Shaggy let's you cast cards exiled with fetch counters but in all of magic only Scooby can apply fetch counters. - Likewise, Scooby can't do anything with fetch counters without Shaggy. More importantly, wouldn't you agree that the vast majority of your audience will use them as they are intended to be used? Why put your time and energy into these unlikely niche cases? Love your stuff, keep up the good work!
Tayam does seem like he could get stuff done in a Persist and Undying deck. Three of these with any outlet that lets you sac for mana goes infinite. Shame there's no payoff for self-mill in colors other than blue
The biggest mistake they are still making with partner, is the mana cost. Almost all of them are 4+ mana, each. So it costs 8-9 mana to get them into play the first time, after a single board wipe, it's 12-14; that's ridiculous. Keeping one commander online is hard enough, but when you need two? "Partner with" is a really good idea, and I'd love to see more of it, but they need to start making them cheaper or give them more evasion.
Akim create birds with ANY token generation, such as with Smothering Tithe and Investigate. It's not much, but it's wider than what most people realize. "Takes away mutate, Otrimi doesn't do anything." Um, but that IS his core function as well as retrieving mutate cards, you can't really just "take away" that. With Haldan/Pako, you can use cards like Noxious Revival/Memory Lapse/Temporal Spring to put cards on top of opponent's library for exiling purpose. Tayam also adds counter on top of token creatures, works well with continuous generators like Regna/Krav. Some would also appreciate Tayam's ability to self-mill as well. Gavi works wonder with Ephara. Once you create your first cat token, it draws you an extra card at the beginning of next upkeep, half-way fulfill Gavi's requirement to create more tokens, then you just have to cycle another card for free and you'd pretty much have a token (and extra card) every turn after.
put zetalpa and a couple other keyword soup cards into your graveyard, have the ozolith out and a card that blinks creatures and kethril gets sooooooooo many counters
I feel like a lot of people are underestimating Jirina. There are like 3 humans that cost 2 mana that have double strike. Then you have cards like Haneweir Garrison who will just be 10 power swinging. They have really good reanimation and boost really well off anthems. I’m just hyped to make this deck.

Tayam is so much more powerful than Kathril. Both need the graveyard but Tayam fills the yard and is actually card advantage. Kathril doesn’t help fill the yard nor provides card advantage. And card advantage is HUGE in commander.
35:25 Sharks breath through Ram ventilation, where they go fast and force air through their lungs. They could actually breath on land if they could go as fast as a bird.
I feel like you underestimate tayam. My brother built him and he is so crazy because he can just solitaire at any point of the game and spend like 30 minutes digging through his graveyard at instant speed and win on the spot basically on YOUR turn without any problem. And because he cares so much about low c2c cards he is fast as well making it so annoying to play against.
I mentioned Tayam as being my favorite pick on your other video, but I guess I didn't realize he's actually not in that other set. Anyways I think Tayam would be a good Abzan lands matters commander
4:18 I approve of the coolness rating. Trynn & Silvar are my favorite duo of recent sets due to how heavy the flavor is. Just a bit unfortunate that Trynn's is a weak human token generator and Silvar (36:40) is a rakdos sacrifice beatstick. Not sure if it really deserves 9 for uniqueness. I'd have given it 6 or 7 maybe. At least it has the Fiend Hunter combos. 14:55 This one is pretty strong. Probably deserves a bit more than 5 power due to all the dumb and easy combos with stuff like Freed from the Real. 23:17 Gavlan wheel? Gavlan deal! 30:40 Depends on the species. Ranges from like 30 years all the way to 100 or more. The oldest T-rex that people found was like 25 or 27 years old.
You need to do more research into these commanders rather than just judging them by their face values. Zaxara, Tayam & Kalamax are commanders with extremely potent builds out there with huge combo potential. We are talking power 7-8 level commanders, sitting just under competitive or in the low competitive level.
* Akim: If you want to play tokens, play Kykar * Partners: I would say there isn't much reason to play one of them alone, access to an additional colour (for Silvar, you'd probably want to end up playing humans, and a lot of the good ones are in white anyway - plus with the recent cards, they can ramp a bit, or at worst, you have an "additional card in hand" due to it being in the command zone - Ukkima.. I'd probably want green access for ramp and removal for artifacts/enchantments, also buffing up stats seems like what Ukkima wants to do in the first place to power up the "leaves the battlefield" effect) * DInosaurs: quick google search tells me.. probably similar to an elephant - which is around 70-80 years (assuming it isn't threatened and all that, which I guess you can compare it to humans, humans might live until like 20 maybe back then? Though larger creatures generally aren't as threatened, the smaller ones likely have a much lower lifespan) * Is there a link to this spreadsheet of commanders?

Partner commanders are separated because whether or not you should separate them, you can for any reason, and commander isn't a format of "strictly betters" when personal preference trumps deckbuilding do's and dont's. When we combine partners without showing them separately, people are left wondering what each might bring to the table, but when we rank them separately, nothing is left unknown and if you play both of them you still know their stats
mybe you should consider partneer which partners with a specific card as a unique commander for the ranking, so that tymna would be ranked alone and pir/ toothy would be ranked together
We have been getting the comment of pairing partners a lot but the way we did it seems to make more sense, since it doesn't matter what the reason for playing only one partner is because it's an option, so by separating them we accomodate people who want to see them separately and for those who don't, let's say one's ranks are 6/8/5/7/6 and the other's is 5/8/9/5/4, then you have two commanders with those respective stats
Great video again guys. Have you ever though of doing gameplay videos or do you have some (I didn't get through all your videos yet). I was wondering where you'd rank Xyris as he was the commander I was the most excited about. Though my deck might be superrrr casual. My favorite deck is Brudiclad but he feels so slow and too obvious to the table. I transformed it with the locust god using wheels to get my token army and search for brudiclad or tutor. It works well in my casual group but I still struggle with ramp and recursion... Xyris will be an even better commander giving 3 times the token and adding green to the mix.
We are DYING to start doing gameplay! But we need to wait a few months until we move out and can get some sort of studio going, where we can do gameplay from. Nothing is really set in stone, other than the fact that we really want to do some gameplay videos in the future lol
A description/breakdown of your criteria would be helpful, because without clear guidelines they are just numbers without any assigned value. For example how Fun is a 4/10? How Unique is a 7/10?. Are you basing this on opinions? Did you ask other people before you ranked the commanders? Like I have no ideas what each of these rankings correlate to because I have no frame of reference
At the beginning of the series before part one, we put out a video explaining how we're going to evaluate everything for the ranking since it just wasn't very practical to mention it at the beginning of every episode. I'd recommend checking it out!
The hydra goes infinite with freed from the real and the shark rider goes infinite with curiosity. I feel like both of them could have been ranked a little bit higher

I desperately want Silvar to work, but it’s too expensive to cast and too niche. Sure, you can build fun little engines with it, but there are cheaper (to cast) and more efficient aristocrats commanders out there. Kathril (and other graveyard commanders) are really iffy. There’s so many ways nowadays to exile graveyards and no way to counter them (unless you’re playing with Blue).
@@NitpickingNerds well Zaxara for sure... then focus in all 5 a little bit here and there ... but keep power level relatively low by taking out some heat for use in my other decks (Love my Oketra too). I'll use those for my kid and his friends ... But Kinnan looks fun ( I don't have a simic EDH deck and I don't have a 2 drop commander.) and I have heaps on white cards ready for a token deck so Jirina will do maybe... Or RHYS? Ukkima, stalking shadow goes great with the instant Hatred 3bb pay x life target creature gets plus x/ plus 0 until end of turn. Pay 38 life swing at one opponent since it's unblockable they take leathal damage sack it to an altar of dementia take 40 cards of another opponents deck than your other opponent takes 40 damage you gain 40 life basically you kill two opponents at once ,take away almost half of your third opponents starting deck and net 2 life, very mean to do but creatures are squishy so not something you can pull of reliably
i feel like the commanders in this one are... kinda lame. no clue why someone would think jirina isn't very good though, she's one of the only ones i like. yannik would be really cool in cat tribal...... if it was a cat. hyena?? come on guys.

Built a kelsien deck and was one of the greatest decks I’ve built, giving here deathtouch and a bunch of untap cards and was awesome and super fun.

It sould be so much easier for viewrs to get a complete picture of power level and commander ranking overall if you just put together the partners.

He does combo very easy! Maybe we are missing some power we are planning on keeping up to date with new commanders because things can change our mind

"Partner with" is a really good idea, and I'd love to see more of it, but they need to start making them cheaper or give them more evasion.
Akim create birds with ANY token generation, such as with Smothering Tithe and Investigate. It's not much, but it's wider than what most people realize.
"Takes away mutate, Otrimi doesn't do anything." Um, but that IS his core function as well as retrieving mutate cards, you can't really just "take away" that.
With Haldan/Pako, you can use cards like Noxious Revival/Memory Lapse/Temporal Spring to put cards on top of opponent's library for exiling purpose.
Tayam also adds counter on top of token creatures, works well with continuous generators like Regna/Krav. Some would also appreciate Tayam's ability to self-mill as well.
Gavi works wonder with Ephara. Once you create your first cat token, it draws you an extra card at the beginning of next upkeep, half-way fulfill Gavi's requirement to create more tokens, then you just have to cycle another card for free and you'd pretty much have a token (and extra card) every turn after.
Those are some cool synergies. Just to clarify when we said that about Otrimi we were discussing only the uniqueness of the card :)

put zetalpa and a couple other keyword soup cards into your graveyard, have the ozolith out and a card that blinks creatures and kethril gets sooooooooo many counters

I feel like a lot of people are underestimating Jirina. There are like 3 humans that cost 2 mana that have double strike. Then you have cards like Haneweir Garrison who will just be 10 power swinging. They have really good reanimation and boost really well off anthems. I’m just hyped to make this deck.

Tayam is so much more powerful than Kathril. Both need the graveyard but Tayam fills the yard and is actually card advantage. Kathril doesn’t help fill the yard nor provides card advantage. And card advantage is HUGE in commander.

I feel like you underestimate tayam. My brother built him and he is so crazy because he can just solitaire at any point of the game and spend like 30 minutes digging through his graveyard at instant speed and win on the spot basically on YOUR turn without any problem. And because he cares so much about low c2c cards he is fast as well making it so annoying to play against.
I mentioned Tayam as being my favorite pick on your other video, but I guess I didn't realize he's actually not in that other set. Anyways I think Tayam would be a good Abzan lands matters commander

4:18 I approve of the coolness rating. Trynn & Silvar are my favorite duo of recent sets due to how heavy the flavor is. Just a bit unfortunate that Trynn's is a weak human token generator and Silvar (36:40) is a rakdos sacrifice beatstick. Not sure if it really deserves 9 for uniqueness. I'd have given it 6 or 7 maybe. At least it has the Fiend Hunter combos.

You need to do more research into these commanders rather than just judging them by their face values.
Zaxara, Tayam & Kalamax are commanders with extremely potent builds out there with huge combo potential. We are talking power 7-8 level commanders, sitting just under competitive or in the low competitive level.
At this stage maybe 'partner with' should just be replaced with 'partner', would open up some interesting possibilities
* Akim: If you want to play tokens, play Kykar
* Partners: I would say there isn't much reason to play one of them alone, access to an additional colour (for Silvar, you'd probably want to end up playing humans, and a lot of the good ones are in white anyway - plus with the recent cards, they can ramp a bit, or at worst, you have an "additional card in hand" due to it being in the command zone - Ukkima.. I'd probably want green access for ramp and removal for artifacts/enchantments, also buffing up stats seems like what Ukkima wants to do in the first place to power up the "leaves the battlefield" effect)
* DInosaurs: quick google search tells me.. probably similar to an elephant - which is around 70-80 years (assuming it isn't threatened and all that, which I guess you can compare it to humans, humans might live until like 20 maybe back then? Though larger creatures generally aren't as threatened, the smaller ones likely have a much lower lifespan)

Partner commanders are separated because whether or not you should separate them, you can for any reason, and commander isn't a format of "strictly betters" when personal preference trumps deckbuilding do's and dont's. When we combine partners without showing them separately, people are left wondering what each might bring to the table, but when we rank them separately, nothing is left unknown and if you play both of them you still know their stats

mybe you should consider partneer which partners with a specific card as a unique commander for the ranking, so that tymna would be ranked alone and pir/ toothy would be ranked together
my point is that it often make no sens to play a partner alone. except if you want to cut some colors, but then you don't play partner altogether
We have been getting the comment of pairing partners a lot but the way we did it seems to make more sense, since it doesn't matter what the reason for playing only one partner is because it's an option, so by separating them we accomodate people who want to see them separately and for those who don't, let's say one's ranks are 6/8/5/7/6 and the other's is 5/8/9/5/4, then you have two commanders with those respective stats
Great video again guys. Have you ever though of doing gameplay videos or do you have some (I didn't get through all your videos yet). I was wondering where you'd rank Xyris as he was the commander I was the most excited about. Though my deck might be superrrr casual. My favorite deck is Brudiclad but he feels so slow and too obvious to the table. I transformed it with the locust god using wheels to get my token army and search for brudiclad or tutor. It works well in my casual group but I still struggle with ramp and recursion... Xyris will be an even better commander giving 3 times the token and adding green to the mix.
We are DYING to start doing gameplay! But we need to wait a few months until we move out and can get some sort of studio going, where we can do gameplay from. Nothing is really set in stone, other than the fact that we really want to do some gameplay videos in the future lol

A description/breakdown of your criteria would be helpful, because without clear guidelines they are just numbers without any assigned value.
For example how Fun is a 4/10? How Unique is a 7/10?. Are you basing this on opinions? Did you ask other people before you ranked the commanders? Like I have no ideas what each of these rankings correlate to because I have no frame of reference
Also how can u power rank cards before they come out? Like what are you using as a metric? Your intuition?
At the beginning of the series before part one, we put out a video explaining how we're going to evaluate everything for the ranking since it just wasn't very practical to mention it at the beginning of every episode. I'd recommend checking it out!

The hydra goes infinite with freed from the real and the shark rider goes infinite with curiosity. I feel like both of them could have been ranked a little bit higher
How does brallin go infinite? We took the 2-card combo into account with zaxara the card is good not fantastic though

I desperately want Silvar to work, but it’s too expensive to cast and too niche. Sure, you can build fun little engines with it, but there are cheaper (to cast) and more efficient aristocrats commanders out there.
Kathril (and other graveyard commanders) are really iffy. There’s so many ways nowadays to exile graveyards and no way to counter them (unless you’re playing with Blue).

@@NitpickingNerds well Zaxara for sure... then focus in all 5 a little bit here and there ... but keep power level relatively low by taking out some heat for use in my other decks (Love my Oketra too). I'll use those for my kid and his friends ... But Kinnan looks fun ( I don't have a simic EDH deck and I don't have a 2 drop commander.) and I have heaps on white cards ready for a token deck so Jirina will do maybe... Or RHYS? Do you have a favorite token go wide Commander?
Ukkima, stalking shadow goes great with the instant Hatred 3bb pay x life target creature gets plus x/ plus 0 until end of turn. Pay 38 life swing at one opponent since it's unblockable they take leathal damage sack it to an altar of dementia take 40 cards of another opponents deck than your other opponent takes 40 damage you gain 40 life basically you kill two opponents at once ,take away almost half of your third opponents starting deck and net 2 life, very mean to do but creatures are squishy so not something you can pull of reliably

wow, I don't think bralin should be under shabraz, he is the real combo piece of the deck, he is the one who will kill almost certainly the opponents, also I think Silvar and Jirina should be way down below others, I mean, I love mardu but these are sucky and lacks a true strength, especially if you consider that you will run them in aristocrat or anthem decks, and those are already not the best...
