I love playing Beledros Witherbloom as a commander, he is a ton of fun to use without being too strong or too easy to play. Building a deck around the pests and playing the value game with sacrifice is a lot of fun. Totally a 10 on fun for me.
Regarding Jadzi//Journey to the Oracle, that back half sorcery seems real good if you're playing with lots of +max hand size cards, who cares if your commander costs 8 if you just put 7 lands into play for free, and untapped
i got a box just recently and it had a foil AND a non-foil mystical archive teferi's protection. absolutely amazing box other than that surprise value too, had beledros and some other $2-10 cards
Favorite so far is Silverquil Dragon. I'm not done with the video, yet, but I haven't seen it, yet. I like the political stuff you could do with it. You don't see that often in stronger black white decks.
May I suggest a video series idea? Îd like to see your take on the most notable cards from the set for certain strategies in edh. The boros cards are some really good examples. Great content as always guys!! I love it. And the sorting hat is pretty grouchy
47:30 I made a Shadrix deck very recently, and I'm so happy to see his score here. A 10/10 on uniqueness is extremely deserved. This guy even has a group-huggy aspect to him, something you would never expect to see in black and white. Not the strongest for sure, the five mana to cast him hurts a bit specially on these colors. But then again, he is an AMAZING casual commander. On politics? EVEN BETTER
Commanders are required to be legendary creatures, but not all legendary creatures are required to be good Commanders. I think the MDFC legends from Kaldheim and Strixhaven were thought more as standard cards vs Commanders. Which is good because doing the reverse gave us Uro and Omnath.
I agree on Omnath, straight up OP Commander precon straight into standard, but is what possible way was Uro not a super pushed constructed bomb. I mean its good in EDH, way to good up a card not to be, but not that OP and its arguably is most underperforming format. Now if you said Kinnan or Koma then I woulda agreed with you on that.
so why did we get elder dragons again, we have the original elder dragons and tarkir was all about dragons. this would e perfect for some strange elders like elder spider (witherbloom), elder buffalo (lorehold), elder sphinx (prismari), elder ooze (quandrix) and elder spirit (sliverquill). i want to see a super old ooze that is super intelligent but also ooze like and just eat a lot, how awesome wuold that be.
I want to build a deck for both sides of Blex. His back side seems neat for a dredge deck. Are there better options? Definitely. Just seems cool to have a sorcery that fills the grave in the CZ.
Great list! I think someone mentioned that because of the wording, there are only a couple extra combat spells that are going to work with the Lorehold dragon
I think you guys missed the mark on Galazeth Prismari. He's much stronger than a 4 for power. He's a powered-down Urza but with the upside of adding red into your deck.
Most extra combat cards don't actually work with Velomachus unfortunately. Most of them require you to be in your main phase in order for them to work. Makes me sad for this commander :( .
I don't know I think there are far more cards that give you extra combat steps that do work with him then there are ones that don't. The only two I know of that don't work with him are waves of aggression and seize the day. I think the actual problem with the strategy is that there just aren't enough instants and sorceries that give you extra combat steps. Part of the reason that the strategy works in Narset is because Narset is blue and gets access to the extra turn cards in addition to the extra combat cards
@@HomeCookinMTG This is incorrect. There are (at this time) only two extra combat spells that work with Velomachus: World at War, and Savage Beating. The other extra combat spells MUST be cast during a main phase in order to work properly. Additionally, the reason the strategy works in Narset is ALSO because she does not automatically cast the spells immediately, but instead allows you to cast them until the end of the turn, which means you can cast your extra combat spells during your next main phase, when they will work as intended.
The card you're looking for with Extus is living lightning. LL + a ritual like jeska's will or battle hymn and you get inf (usually red) mana. Diabolic intent is also completely insane since you immediately get back the thing you sac as the cost.
@@bananajoe275 Yeah, I'd want to go all-in on the instants & sorceries synergy. I just wish there was way to create infinite creature tokens using only instants and sorceries.

One thing I will compliment this set on is that Lukka was consistent, not just in this set, but somehow with Ikoria too; In this set, lukka's an aimless chaotic anarchist, referencing his experience with kudro's "betrayal", but he's also still got his orderly soldier background influencing how he acts and giving him a desire for a group. He becomes the second in command (and then takes control when Extus dies) to the Oriq after people try and murder him for the crime of just thinking he might possibly be one, and the dragon guard just wreaked like 20 of their collective shits in a wristflick. He even *actually* bonds with a creature, rather then doing his usual "mind control bonding" he does, showing his card character while keeping in tone with the book's version somehow. Basically, Lukka decided to try and uproot and fuck up an entire plane's society because he had a couple bad weeks, but also didn't plan shit and just followed orders to generally fuck shit up. He's going to be a fun villian going forward, I think, especially once he learns to planeswalk properly.

In my experience, you guys were right on when it came to Jaddi. The 8 mana thing, even with plenty of that simic mana boost, is generally such a slog, and there is a tendency to save up a lot of little spells for after she's cast, so you can try to chain together some triggers. Even if you could manage to get Omniscience on the top of your library, you still need the Mana open for the spell that triggers Magecraft, then the additional 1 mana for a discounted Omniscience. By the time you're able to do that, you know what else you can do? Hard cast Omniscience. When a 9-Mana discounted version of Omniscience is a bigger pain in the ass to fire off than just hard casting Omniscience, your shortcut might not be a shortcut.
I made a Tanzir Quandrix deck with Scourenging Bandar as the hidden commander. I love brewing and doing unexpected stuff with not very good commanders like Tanzir, and making a strategy where the early game is all about making Scouranging Bandar as big as possible with a late game of making my Tanzir a house by double the counters on bandar and transferring them all over to Tanzir was extremely fun/exciting for me.
Blex not getting points for his backside which is an outlet to mill your entire deck except the cards you want in your hand feels bad. Front side is unplayable but hey, you can play green now.

I've made an Extus deck that, in all the games I've ever played, Never plays the Extus side. Especially when I get real lucky and Skull/Fury/Empyrial Storm for 10+copies (Fury Storm ON Awaken the Blood Avatar is extra fun.).
