- Death Stranding's story, confusing as it may seem, is ultimately about reconnecting the world after a great catastrophe pulls it apart. That's Death Stranding's plot in a nutshell, but if you want something a little deeper than that to truly find out what's going on in Hideo Kojima's latest, well pull up a chair, because here's Death Stranding's 40 hour story (including the big ending) summed up in a nice digestible plot summary.

You missed something vital in the last few seconds . When BB-28 came back to life she was holding the same little charm given to Sam by amelie previously. Thus showing that Amelie revived that baby like she did Sam , making BB-28 a repatriate just like Sam. So Sam and his daughter are deathless repatriates thanks to amelie.
Also, there is a glimpse of the world-changing when Lou and Sam step out of the building at the end, as if Timefall drab grey weather and BTS slowly make way to a ray of sunshine and birds chirping. Something that obviously missing throughout the game

My play through lasted 60 hours total, I loved every single second of playing this game. I don’t know why it’s getting so much hate for being what it is. It’s not meant to be metal gear, or an action adventure, it’s a new type of experience. Throw your expectations away, and replace it with an expectation of something new.
I think its getting so much hate because it doesn't fit into a specific category. Many people expected this to fit into a box of Ethier walking or story, not a equal balance.

I finally finished Death Stranding today...
Despite some minor pacing issues at the start of the game, if you push through the game starts picking up considerably around chapter 4.
It’s got Kojima written all over it and so some of the story buckles under its own weight... however it’s not too difficult too understand the main point.
Also this game is probably the most unique game experience I’ve had in all my 20+ years of gaming. The gameplay switches quite often to thriller/stealth/action adventure/shooter/ relaxing meditative delivery service game. With an intriguing and unique and insanely fun online play style.
The whole game is positive reinforcement... something that more games could use these days. It’s nice to see a game constantly on the side of positivity...
I enjoyed the experience and won’t soon forget it, and if your looking for something unlike anything else, I highly recommend... there’s plenty in this game for everyone to enjoy. It’s not perfect, but when it’s firing on all cylinders, the strokes of genius are hard to miss.

I did'nt understand what was going on while watching twitch streams but now it all makes no sense at all.
After finishing the game I sat up in my bed all night trying to piece together all the loose ends i couldn't figure out immediately. Slowly but surely, all those weird hints and scenes drip fed to us throughout the game just string together piece by piece once you start getting the full picture at the end. The absence of that "drip feed" is why the ones afraid to try the game still might not understand. Allot of games are fun, but this is the first game in a long time that extracted them "feels" that we like to hide in this day and age....for lack of better words.

The real genius of this moment is that you spend x amount of hours making connections in the game. Through the structures you use and make and with the worlds characters. She asks you to make a choice after hours of making connections. Sam says he doesnt know what to do and Amelie reassures him that he does. To do what hes been doing this entire game and make a connection.

What are they using babies for exactly? Are babies used to communicate somehow to the other side to detect BT ghosts? What’s with that masked bad guy did he find how to weaponize ghosts or BT’s to terrorize the future world? and what’s with that weird war vet bad guy who’s supposedly your father from another time dimension? why does that red dress lady want you to do all this the entire game but yet at the end also wants to quickly end the entire world?? What’s a replicant? Please someone help me try to understand this game better PLEASE!!
Nick Hall have you played through it? It explains it all(I get that it’s confusing still tho) I can answer your questions if you don’t plan on playing it but you’ll understand most of that by playing and reading the logs
I've finished the game but I'm still confused on a couple of things not clearly explained, so I've been trying to figure out those details, such as what caused the Death Stranding since its very beginning...
Some say that the first Voidout was caused by the Manhattan incident, but that must be the second one. Because I suppose that those experiments were made in an attempt to investigate what happened during the surgical operation in which the doctor came into contact with an unknown being (later identified as a BT) and caused the first explosion. One of those experiments, conducted in Manhattan, led to another Voidout...
What is even less explained is why the BT of the first incident was in our world. The game doesn't explain it but I came to the conclusion that when Bridget was doing her research on the Chiral Network, the transfering of data between the Beach and the world of the living, opened a sort of dimensional gap that allowed the first BTs to pass. Eventually, the eponymous Death Stranding catastrophe happened some time later, when Amelie saved Sam from death, overturning the laws of life and death and definitely opening that gap between the dimensions, allowing the BTs to invade the earth and generate a chain of Voidouts that brought the world as we find it in the game. It seems the most logical explanation to me... let me know if I'm wrong, maybe I missed something!
And then there's an issue I can't figure out, concerning the name of the Bridges company. I'd think that it's named after Lisa Bridges, the first "stillmother" to have given birth to a working BB. But in the cutscenes we see that the staff members already have the "Bridges" badge on their clothes, isn't it a bit strange? I mean, it's something you'd expect as a tribute after a successful result, not before or while experimenting something they're still not sure of... what's your thought about it?

Sam was born a year after the first void outs had happened. Amelie repatriating him caused the death stranding to go into full swing because sending him back upset the balance of life and death, which made her beach a pathway for BTs to return to the living world en masse.
Sam is Cliffs son and neither of them had anything to do with Manhattan. Sam was born to a regular set of parents, his mother being brain dead from a car accident.
The first void out happened because a doctor saw a BT after touching the still connected umbilical cord of a baby he was delivering via c-section, because the mother (like Sams) was brain dead. Those specific details are what the BB program mimicked with their first successful BB candidate, Sam.
the thing about the names - i think it's kind of like, the names are people's jobs? like in olden days people's last names started off as what you did, like "James Miller" was a miller, Donny Shoemaker was a ... shoemaker. this is common in German, i think? anyways, i looked at it like that. Sam is literally a porter, and a "bridge" who were the people doing that type of work with the government. maybe? i don't know, made sense to me. also why would Bridget and Amelie's last name be "strand"?
@@matthewb3725 Bridget's last name Strand is her actual last name.. same as Sam. However, people seem to formally go by their job name or nickname (Die-Hardman because he's hard to kill, Heartman because he keeps dying, Sam Porter/Bridges because he's a porter and then it changes to Bridges when he starts to work for them, etc).
The story falls short because they don't capture real hiking so I fixed that myself with my own animation.
The ending is beautiful.
I get the feeling the reviewer turned the game off after the first credits.
I personally hate the ending (yes i have completely finished it, twice) but it is cool you like it.

there's one thing i don't understand: amelie didn't want the last stranding to happen, but then she decided to just get it over with and connecting all the cities would help her achieve this goal. so why the hell did she "hire" higgs? he blew up cities with nukes and caused void outs, therefore destroying the connections, so what was his true purpose afterall?
So they both adopted a nihilistic worldview. The world doesnt have that much time left anyway. Why not end it. She chose him as a game piece to juxtapose with sam. Someone who can represent letting life fight for its existence to the last, even if its meaningless.

Honestly, what makes it confusing is trying to fit it into 15 minutes. I ended up watching (in pieces) an 11 hour collection of all the cutscenes/interactions. It's still a long time but having breathing room between things allows you to process what is being said. I'd never sit there for 60 hours and play the game that joins it all together, but the story is solid. Incredibly weird, but solid.

The last few hours of this game blew my mind. My GOTY. It has to win for its technical achievements and audio design easy.
Then it should win those categories.... not GOTY
Even people who LOVE the game say it's not for everyone... all games aren't for everyone .. but they all make a point of saying it for this game specifically.. meaning.. it's for less than everyone... Very few people will play the actual game to get this story and soundtrack. I'm sure it'll still sell well.. but completion rate will be low.

Kojima made a 50+ hour long sermon about connection,.... in the end his protagonist severs his own connection to everyone save for one. I get why people hate it,... it’s a shaggy dog story.

Playing this game in full with no spoilers was one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced. Seeing this all go down, and learning everything including terminology, was such a wonderful cinematic experience. Gameplay wise, this is not for everyone. But I loved playing

When it is just a movie you don't really get involved in rebuilding this whole world... I really got emotionally attached to the characters and deliberately want to truly connect with all of them. I want to connect with other players as well. You don't get that in a movie.

Use google m8. They're the same actors who got hired for the character screenplay for this game. And before you ask in the future, yes the character Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077 is played by Keanu Reeves. I personally encourage this progress in gaming, it rly connects you more closely with the characters if they are played by familiar actors.

Man, what an awesome recount of an amazing story. I had not been a kojima fanboy til after this even though the metal gear series were great. I started running standard orders just to keep from moving the story along, it seems very awkward from afar but once you start playing you get involved. And yes you were the BB and Ungers Kid.. ZING! What a beautifully dark story and cinema feel, I think its about 7 hours of cut scenes but well worth the trip.. and trip is the best name for the gnarliness you will endure but you will love it.
I’ve seen a ton of reviews. And ending explaining. I think all those videos missed one very important thing. Sam did not revive Lou. AMELIE DID. I guess when Lou dead, she somehow ended up on Amelie’s beach. You can prove that because when Lou came back to life, she was holding the Quipu that Sam made for Amelie in her hand! (As we known, one’s able to bring objects from beaches)

This game is truly one of the most gripping and emotional games I’ve ever played.
I totally understand why people don’t like it, though, as it’s completely new and different to anything I’ve ever seen before.
The story is complex, but it all makes sense when you get to the end, and all of the loose ends are tied up very nicely.
The Lou thread of the story really made the game for me. I felt so connected to that little baby in its pod, and felt genuine joy when Sam revived her at the end.
Fantastic game, fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone with a little patience.

Videogamedunkey explained this game best when he said that "The obstacles you face are ones of mild inconvenience." The entire gameplay loop revolves around being inconvenienced about what path you're going to take.
Bringing back sam using the revolver part is not because it has Sam's blood in it. It's because that revolver killed cliff and sam at the same time, connecting sam to Clifford, Clifford to john, bridget to john, cliff, and sam making it possible for john to get to amelies beach which also allows Clifford there too. "A gun will not help you here, but it still has a role to play" The role it plays is bringing sam back or as the game puts it: Reconnect with the living.
So glad I passed on this.

The Cliff flashbacks when you connect to her would seem to imply that Lou is Sam but that doesn't make any sense because Lou is a girl... right?

They’re Sams memories. BB28 is the 28th graduate of the BB programme which was modelled on Sam (the original BB).
The whole time it seems it's Lou's memories but they're Sam's all along
