First of all, awesome video and commentary. This makes me want to get back into RC! I taught aerobatics for about 8 years in Decathlons, a Pitts and an Extra300 and for the most part you're using the same sight pictures and references that I used to teach my students. Is this near the Trabuco Flyers site or Lake Irvine? Those ridge lines look awfully familiar.
Thank you for the encouragement! It feels great to hear affirmation from a pro aerobatic pilot😁. This is Bob Swenson Memorial Field near Irvine Lake - as close to RC heaven as it gets!
When I was flying RC planes we put a video camera on a large scale plane but we had to look at it afterwards it took a couple of tries as exhaust mist messed it up first time. Looking at this it is beyond anything we could even imagine.
Awesome work and a great flight. If I had any critique it would be using Spektrum for control. As an FPV rule of thumb you want your control link to out range your video link and DJI will easily out range Spektrum control. Since you're not limited by your vision flying FPV it's very easy to get to the limit of your Spektrum gear. I recommend FrSky's newer stuff if you want something similarly easy to program as Spektrum but I personally use Radiomaster with Crossfire 900Mhz or ELRS 2.4Ghz (good for at least 40-60km control vs 20km for DJI video). You likely will never bump into either of those limits but I like my links to be bulletproof, or as close as possible. I've had Spektrum glitch on me inside 1km and I no longer trust it.
@@Invid72 I agree with your recommendation🙂 I have been using FrSky X20S with Tandem receivers for last 4 years and have not had any issues. I lost a few planes previously with Spektrum as well.
Is that a goggles 3? Are you not worried about the goggles 3 but that will make you lose video signal when used with 03 air unit? I guess on a fixed wing you can easily disarm and arm again on losing vid signal.
On this flight, I was using Goggles 2 with O3 air unit, no flight controller. Just turning low power mode off on air unit. No arming signal - so coincidently no issues with Goggles 3 if not armed.
What type of transmitter do you use? I have been flying on an NX8 and AR630 receivers and I have had a real problem with loss of signal control. I crashed a Ultra Slow stick from about 200 feet, i was doing a maneuver and it was headed into the dirt and with 10 seconds to recover, I was moving the sticks like a madman and the plane had a mind of its own and barreled straight into the ground with zero deviation from my inputs. I had a flight today that almost ended the same way, but luckily i regained control about 2 seconds above the ground. I am really looking for a more reliable alternative.

How about FPV-control in a RTF(ready to fly)-RC-Helicopter for a change ? 😃👍😎🙏 Would be nice to see how small of scale a RTF-RC-Heli can be to install FPV into. . .
I did collective pitch RC helicopter FPV for many years using headtracking back on analog FPV days from T-Rex 250 size up to big 14s 800mm Thunder Tiger E820. Collective pitch helicopters are the most maneuverable craft by far. Doing a smooth split-S or loop while looking up through the helicopter's blades is a trip. Also can fly up high, turn off the helicopter's motor and do an autorotation down as if the helicopter had put out a parachute.
Now add 'HUD' telemetry for displaying an overlay of flight/mission data, AR telemetry for incorporating virtual optics like HUD way points or wingman/opponent indicated direction / position. Then tio it off with a 7 dof motion sim

@@motionsic I thought it was that area. We practiced east and south of Coto De Caza. I'll definitely check it out if I'm in the area again.
@@chrisbebensee334 Let me know when you want to visit. I will show you around🙂
Top Gun, The series
You get the idea. The best FPV pilots from RC clubs across the country come together for a dogfight tournament. Know any promoters?
This is beautiful. Where is the VR altitude and other indicators?
Will show in following episodes.
When I was flying RC planes we put a video camera on a large scale plane but we had to look at it afterwards it took a couple of tries as exhaust mist messed it up first time. Looking at this it is beyond anything we could even imagine.
Looks like a scene flight from Battlefield Game...!
Great build.
~namaste~
Amazing - first time i have seen this - shall read your notes, meanwhile, what camera are u using onboard?
O3 Air Unit Camera, see the video following this one for install tutorial and other components.
Absolutely astonishing!
If I can have this one, I don’t need a Flight Simulator games anymore😮
Cool! Do you think it's possible to fly that thing down the hatch of a T90 main battle tank? Just asking for a friend .......
Too nice of a system to waste on Kamikaze attack on a T90 tank, totally could dive bomb just as accurately though🤠
Nice. I wonder what the latency is between moving your head and getting the image back reflecting the new angle.
@@clintonkeith5333 Haven’t measured, not enough to cause issues while flying. Latency for visual transmission is about 30ms.
Very cool FPV !!!
Thank you!
Nice fly. Greate ground support :) GZ.
@@krewetki Indeed! From clearing debris off runway to altitude call out. Can’t get better than that😉
What type of transmitter do you use? I have been flying on an NX8 and AR630 receivers and I have had a real problem with loss of signal control. I crashed a Ultra Slow stick from about 200 feet, i was doing a maneuver and it was headed into the dirt and with 10 seconds to recover, I was moving the sticks like a madman and the plane had a mind of its own and barreled straight into the ground with zero deviation from my inputs. I had a flight today that almost ended the same way, but luckily i regained control about 2 seconds above the ground. I am really looking for a more reliable alternative.
@@jasonthornton2525 I have been using FrSky X20S with TD R10 for three years, have not had any control issues.

any updates on the condition of the airfield itself? the fire is burning away from it, right?

FPV videos were so funny that other RC videos got fed up. There's also a sound in the flight video. Does the air unit also have a microphone?

Is this the same resolution you see from the camera at the start im thinking of getting this and wondering if it looks that realistic in the fpv goggles

Very nice views !
How about FPV-control in a RTF(ready to fly)-RC-Helicopter for a change ? 😃👍😎🙏
Would be nice to see how small of scale a RTF-RC-Heli can be to install FPV into.
.
.
I’m all for trying it out in a helicopter, not crazy about fitting in a super small one though, they tend to be pretty squirrelly.
@@RCGuyVideos you should definitely revisit with digital FPV equipment, the immersion level would be night and day compared to analog FPV.
Now add 'HUD' telemetry for displaying an overlay of flight/mission data, AR telemetry for incorporating virtual optics like HUD way points or wingman/opponent indicated direction / position.
Then tio it off with a 7 dof motion sim
