- This week’s episode of Dining on a Dime takes host Lucas Peterson on a little trip down memory lane. Back in the early 1920s when Peterson lived in Beijing (kidding, but it was almost 20 years ago!), he remembers seeing street hawkers serving jianbing in his neighborhood in Wangfujing. The jianbing is a customizable pancake, made with a wheat batter, eggs, and different sauces and toppings. It’s not inaccurate to say that it’s something like a Chinese crepe.

Jianbing looks to me like the culinary love child of a Mumbai Street Dosa and an overstuffed California style Burritto.
I'll have to try my hand at it (I'm currently DIYing my Dosa technique).

The Jianbing sometimes attributed to Zhuge Liang (last name Zhuge) is actually not the same as this one. Zhuge's Jianbing is made with grain flour and very chewy. You don't add anything to it while it's being cooked, but you can wrap things in it.The jianbing guozi here is made from mung beans and very soft and is closer to a crepe.

I always thought lucas was in his late 30s. Not surprised to be honest.. Asians tend to look younger than other races but as an asian myself, guess i had a better sense of Lucas's age lol

Another great review of food that looks delicious, but I had never heard of. BTW, since you always order quite a number of items, do you end up sharing it after shooting with your cameraman and/or producer? I'm a big guy, but not even I could eat the amount you generally order.

Brown eggs has nothing to do with organic actually the opposite. the chickens are selected to produce brown eggs because people believe it to be more natural making it sell better. how ironic :D
