    This is incredible. The best part is that when you broke down the difference between drinking food and drunk food, I couldn't help but picture someone on the street at 2am, blind drunk, and writing a food thesis on the sidewalk.
    I may have been part of the Great Gyros debate of '98, where six drunk engineering students got into a brawl over the proper meat to veg ratio of the perfect late night gyros. Sides were drawn, calculators smashed, friendships ended, and tzatziki spilled. The horrors visited upon innocent spanakopita still haunt my dreams. And all was for naught, as victory was snatched away by a philosophy major with a donner kabob.

    • @Dudenob123

      the ratio can be found out by the how hammered you are. and the simple answer is the more hammered the more fatty meat. easy.

    Though to be honest, Dunkin Donuts is also right up there. Do miss me my sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel with a large blueberry iced coffee.
    Of course... Dunkin Donuts, now *that's* a company that crashed and burned in the Chinese market. I swear a lot of these companies don't realize that it's not 1990 anymore and that "foreign" doesn't have to immediately equal "change your entire brand to be more upscale". The foreign companies that're killing it right now are the likes of KFC, Ikea, and Uniqlo... and they're squarely mid-market.

    • @rusdanibudiwicaksono1879
      @rusdanibudiwicaksono1879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yeah, but KFC and others (like Pizza Hut, Hoka Hoka Bento, McDonald) were started as upscale place _were_ the thing that made them stick in the mind of their target audience: upper-middle class that looking for new experience. Of course, some brand stay upscale (to the bewilderment of working expatriate) but some transitioned into more middle class when it suited them.
      Start as upscale also had (somewhat) advantage compared with start as squarely middle level: Corporates tend to be care more about their (local) image, so the quality also didn't dip into oblivion at the drop of hat. Looking at you, KFC USA.

      Dunkin Donuts opened a store in Budapest in around ‘91 I think. I took a train from Vienna to Budapest just to get some donuts. They had signs and ads explaining what a donut was. I remember billboards around that same time explaining what a billboard was. 😂

    • @amaladiguna8873
      @amaladiguna8873 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Which is weird! My local (Indonesian) Dunkin Donuts are squarely mid market and is often filled with cab drivers and even caters to that specific demographic by letting them smoke indoors! Why don't they have a uniform marketing strategy globally? Aiming for the same group of people in different countries (of course accounting for the different local definition of "mid-market") seems like a good idea..

    Bruh. To hear someone explaining what drunk food is is like someone explaining the very classic old meme of Taco Bell at 2am. Which is what you did.

    Taco bell beef is cooked so that none of the meat seizes. One way to do this is to use a flat-bottomed glass and smear the meat while you cook it incredibly low and slow (20-30 minutes), and starting in a cold pan.

    As a Malaysian viewer - we don't have much of a drinking culture with Muslims making a main majority in all but two states in Borneo - I appreciate the explanation on what "drunk food" is putting Taco Bell into better context in America.

    Wow, Taco Bell is American Mexican fusion, so this taco bell jianbing is actually a American, Mexican Chinese fusion.

    That intro had me ROLLING!!!
    While I can’t empathize with missing Taco Bell….when I first moved from the southwest to NY, I went through hardcore QT gas station withdrawal (of course it isn’t fair to call QT a “gas station”…it’s basically a way of life-borderline *a religion.* 🤣💖)
