    I'd already decided to wait for this over the model D, and now I'm convinced this is the synth for me. But Gaz, you really need to learn how to use the patchbay, especially how to use the attentuators properly to refine lfo modulations etc.

    Sorry for commenting on an old video but I have the option of buying this or a Dreadbox Typhon for the same price, I can see the Dreadbox having more high end features via menu diving (not a fan of doing that) but the Neutron looks more accessible but with perhaps less features, you no doubt have played with both, did you favour one over the other? Which would you rescue from a fire?

  • @manne3d

    Thanks for the video Gaz! Looking forward to the next vide, a few questions.
    I like to see how well the LFO will sync to both midi clock (if it even does sync to MIDIclock?) and analog pulsewave (TRIG in)..is it tight even if you slow down the clock to like 10bpm? What are the min-max speeds it will sync to? And how about when it is synced to a analog clock (like one of the VCO's)…how well does it respond if you change the speed of the clock speed? It would be cool to patch the squarewave from the second VCO on the synth to the LFO trig in …
    but most importantly, will the LFO reset to MIDI start/stop?? (many synth designers miss this feature, bassstation2 comes to mind) I dont see a LFO reset but i guess it does reset when it finds a new tempo via the LFO trig in or keysync. Also when it is in sync either via MIDI (if there is MIDIclock sync that is) or the TRIG IN… will the rate knob/CV be a divider/multiplier of the locked clock?
    and i wonder the same for the delay, how well it syncs,/copes with changing clock speed, and how fast it can sync…could you please test by patching in 1 VCO (squarewave) to the delay trig in…maybe the delay can even be played from the keyboard then…i wonder if it would sound like tuned notes at high speeds? MIDIclock sync?
    More info about the MIDI in general would be cool…what if i wanted velocity to filter?? Do i need to use the assign out if i want velocity? Then what about aftertouch? Can i only have one or the other?
    I dont think they should have wasted jacks with mults (better to just use splitter cables)…have more useful outputs like MIDI velocity, aftertouch, mod, midi clock out, midi clock reset, out
    how slow will the VCO’s go …LFO territory?
    That BIAS thing i think is if you like to open the VCA without using CV or keyboard…so you can use it as a drone note without holding a key.
    Sorry for all the questions :D this thing looks so interesting! Thanks

    • @drstupid1

      Magnus Andersson divkid said the lfo won't sync :(

    • @manne3d
      @manne3d 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, that is a shame...midi interface seems to be a little lacking (still great for the money)...i guess i will hang onto the minibrute for a bit more (it has a super tight LFO that is always in sync with midi) :D ...so is the LFO TRIG IN on the neutron just a LFO reset...or is it like a tap-tempo thing?

    Regarding sound quality on TH-cam (as you mention around 41:00 or so)
    I've heard that if you upload a 1080p video that it preserves the sound more betterer. I can't comment on the truth of that myself however. YMMV

    • @ChristopherSibert
      @ChristopherSibert 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @hakonsoreide 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, live streams are automatonically streaminged and saved as 720p. It doesn't get more betterer than this as long as it's live. Even at 1080P, the videographical and soundological components are compressionated quite a bit from an origininous file.

  • @venusiansky
    @venusiansky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like an ideal piece for a beginner as an introduction into subtractive synthesis or for those curious to the possibilities of modular synthesizers. Affordable, intuitive layout, flexible I/O and nice sound. Though, I don’t care for the color scheme and graphics. Looks like they are going for a 2000 raver look. Enough time hasn’t passed yet for that to be retro. I see this uses the 3340 VCO clone, but does it use the 3320 clone as well?

  • @velocipede808

  • @Syncopator
    @Syncopator 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a brilliant design. Dual oscillator where both have sine as well as saw/square, etc., for an incredibly affordable price. Sine wave is a must along with saw & square, and the fact the Mother-32 and Model-D don't have sines makes them a complete pass for me, besides how overpriced they are for what you get. And I prefer the sequencer to be separate anyhow, so the fact there's no sequencer is fine with me-- I already have a Beat Step Pro which should work with this quite well. I suspect not only are these going to fly off the shelves, many people will probably buy more than one. It's definitely on my must-buy list, this one kicks major butt.

    great vid gaz..if you get the time could you do a vid were you sample the neutron in halion 6 and create a new halion 6 instrument..when i get a neutron thats the main reason i wanna buy it too combine both to create unique instruments ..
    watching the vid you did on sonicstate showcasing halion 6 got me to buy h6 ad its brilliant but its headscratchingly hard at times too understand the layouts with halion 6 so if you could do another vid id appreciate it.

  • @KiR_3d
    @KiR_3d 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Hi, Gaz!
    Thanks for detailed look on waves and morphing!
    i'm surprised that Overdrive isn't level-compensated... maybe it's impossible in some cases, IDK... but it can be done fairly easily IMHO...
    People, did anybody of you bought V3205 on Ali? As i know these are produced in China... i'm struggling with the wish to buy and try it :) but i fear of fakes... BBD's strongest side (for analog synths) is that you don't need to make DAC-ADC routine. PT2399 is nice but has some serious limitations.
    VCA Bias is a zero level for VCA. Usually it's set to 0 by design. Here you can choose (to make drones for example). Gaz, maybe you need some small oscilloscope screen, it will be showing a lot. Here are a plenty of non-expensive solutions...

    Hello, it's the first video I watch from you and I liked it very much, very nice and simple explanations of the mechanics of the synth ! However I have a comment on the video making side of it: next time put your camera not on the other side of your adjusting hand, it's to bad we don't see how and witch knob you turn because your hand is in the way.

    Last day of the year, last question: I'm trying to daisy chain the waldorf blofeld (with external midi keyboard) with the mighty neutron but I really can't understand how to do it. The Blofeld has no midi outputs (only one input) but has two normal jack outputs (L stereo and R). Anyone have any suggestions?
