They pulled this scene off so well, it sends butterfly through my stomach, that's how you know they did it right. So much emotion and power I'm this scene!
While I do wish they included the Walk To Arlong Park scene and sampled the Overtaken theme, the live action adapted the manga version and that "walk" is an anime-only thing. Same reason why so many people complained that Zeff eating his leg was not in the anime but didn't realize that it's actually manga accurate, the anime just changed it due to censorship. The "walk" is actually one of the things the anime did better, though. They should've considered how iconic that scene is for anime watchers and how hype that moment truly is. For most people, the Nami "help me" scene and subsequent walk to Arlong Park were what made them fans of the series, so they should've thought about that at least.

Nami should have stayed while Luffy just walks away with "We're leaving" and Zoro, Sanji and Ussop just agree (like in the anime). This scene has so much power because everyone simply agrees with Luffy in helping Nami without any question. Then you can take the “walk”. Cut back to Nami where the villagers arrive for the big reveal. Including Nami in the walk takes something away. I didn't like this decision at all. Also Luffy destroying Namis prison and cage without including the desk and the bloody pen is a huge overlook. This hit so hard in the anime and manga that Luffy understands what chains Nami.
I get that the walk to arlong park wasn't in the manga, but as I recall, the fishmen didn't destroy the village in the manga, the strawhats just showed up to the park to challenge arlong and his crew

I allways hated this twist from Oda. because it makes no sense. Nojiko? OK. But the enire village?! Everyone just watches how a child enslaves herself without doing ANYTHING FOR YEARS? This is not genius. It is unbelievable and dumb. Also with the villagers hating Nami it makes her suffering so much darker and her sacrifice so much greater.

I know this cause they actually tried in the manga after Bellemere was killed and got the shit beaten out of them. They knew if they tried to help Nami and something happened to them, she'd blame herself and feel even worse. It was the best of a bad situation as there was nothing else they could do and it's only after Arlong made it clear he never had any intention of freeing theem, thus making her years of sacrifice worthless, they decided if nothing else they;'d atleast try to take a stand as they seemingly had no other options.
Glad someone beat me to this. The whole village knowing what Nami was doing meant they had a sliver of hope knowing that someday she would come and save them from Arlong’s wrath. But they had to keep that fact from Arlong so he wouldn’t betray her or worse, destroy Cocoyashi Village and everyone in it.
They could have never topped the anime for this. Pisses me off that they changed the fact the village didn’t know what she was doing. The fact they knew in the makes this so much greater
You can even see him clutch his chest where the wound is a couple times after straining himself; I like that the show goes out of their way to show that the wound is forcing him to hold back and he's still capable of doing all this.

As well done as this is, the small details they didnt have time for like the pinwheel and Bellemeres background etc make this arc hit even harder in the original version. Very well done though for how little time they used on it (Usopp got more time for his story somehow)

So ya this is a good scene, however, the Dub version is still the best version in my opinion. I don't like much else from the dub I prefer mostly sub yet the dub for the walk to Arlong Park is still the best. This scene while good lacks the gravity that the anime brought. That being said the Live Action is really amazing and thoroughly enjoyable.
They cut out the speech where the villagers were told to "burn their images into your eyes" and that epic walk... ? Why? That would have been so easy to adapt to live action..... 😕. Also this is the one spot where the lines of the original weren't cheesy at all. Because it was just an unspoken understanding between the crew that they would now follow their captain into hell.
Because those scenes don't exist in-canon. They were only in the anime to fill up time, they weren't written by Oda. And they were cheesy as hell, I'm sorry, but as a manga reader, it was forced and cringe. Additionally, Yosaku and Johnny aren't in the LA series at all, because they're pretty worthless characters who only serve as a source of two new swords for Zoro to use for the arc.
1. Add Yosaku and Jhonny guarding the door. 2. Dont make nami walk with them 3. Make luffy say "which one of you is arlong" 4. Maybe when luffy gets injured badly and is about to die, Nami goes to Arlong tower to save him. 5. Add overtaken
Why did these creators change the story though? Arlong park battle was genius because of the suspense from situation. Zoro fainting due to injury, Luffy being trapped underwater, Sanji getting beat underwater while trying to save Luffy. Garp and coby fillers suck hell, they even play Weiqi/Go holding stones wrong way, very disrespectful to one of the greatest Asian culture that created Art of War. Same level of disrespect is shown to writer. How the hell Zoro nursing scene or Arlong Kurobi Baratie scene is better than Krieg Arc? Luffy vs Garp lol? Netflix should never be involved in remaking anime.

Like, Oda had more creative control than any other manga creator in history, and he not only approved of all of these choices, he picked out the actors himself and gave Matt Owens his full approval as showrunner. Also, the answer to most of your questions is because it wouldn't work in live action. Luffy being trapped under water was honestly a boring stalling sequence meant to keep his fight for last and it would've been much harder to film Sanji fighting under water.
Not a fan of this version personally. I found the simplicity of the original scene far better. A member of Luffy's crew asks for help and he acts with his crew ready to follow on his orders. Its really the first time they act as a crew instead of a group of misfits thrown together by circumstance which makes it doubly as effective
