so glad they gave it an update! i just wish they included a matrix router for stuff. more mult options. i have an x4 and x8p. lots of i/o. it would be nice to be able to route stuff in a more flexible way that was easy to see at a glance.
@@therealaarongeorge not the same as a routing matrix trust me. i'm like a UAD expert at this point (considering i've been able to trouble shoot my setup better than UAD themselves), yeah it only allows the number of mults are your cue sends. you can't have like one thing go to 5 things if you only have 4 stereo cue sends. so if i wanted a signal to go to adat 1/2 and also output 5-6 and 7-8. it would be difficult to do that outside of a DAW (which of course adds latency).
💯 with you on this. As a home studio producer this is my no 1 request. Seeing most other interface manufacturers offering proper matrix style routing is kind of annoying … feels like a matter of time before UAD catch up or I make the switch despite the thousands I’ve invested in their software and hardware
thanks for the video. Would be great if you have a video showing us how to connect 3 or more studio headphones to Apollo x4 using cue output. I can never figure out how to add more than 2 headphones
The easiest way is via a headphone splitter using the headphone amp on the front. But if you want independent mixes, you can have 2 cues go to the outputs on the front and another 2 go to the physical outputs on the back. But you will need a separate headphone amp to provide power from those back outputs.
Hi Todd! I have (3) UA Apollo interfaces.. I wish they would have let us send channel outputs to any interface instead of limiting us to sending channel outputs to its own interface.
I don’t know the technical limitations but from a developer point of view, I know limitations can be more difficult to resolve than they appear. I’d love more than 4 cues, but don’t see it happening. I’d love to drag and drop inputs/outputs, but assume that is more difficult than I am able to understand.
Great video! Question for you? I’m running outboard gear into the U.A console like a Neve 1073, API Channel Strip, Pultec E.Q and Tubecore Stereo bus compressor. How do you adjust the levels, or gain of those units within the Console? For some reason I can’t stop the Tube Compressor from distorting unless I set the gain really low on the unit. Thanks
First off, you can set the inputs to -10 or +4. That should help with the proper input level. But you should be distorting coming into the Apollo. I run some extremely hot equipment at full output and still don’t clip the inputs.
@@ToddUrbanyes I’m running everything at +4. I tried the -10 setting on the Tube Compressor channel and it just made everything even louder and more distorted. Everytime I sing into the microphone I see that it’s hitting the red zone and it doesn’t matter how far down I turn the levels on my Apollo twin or Apollo x16 Heritage. The levels within the console and the outboard gear just seem to be off and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to adjust them. :/
The only thing I can think is that each of those analog devices should have an output level. I’m assuming they are running too hot and clipping the Apollo.
@@ToddUrbanok thanks. It’s weird I’m setting the 1073 output very low, along with the tube Compressor gain, output low as well and it distorts. Another weird thing is I can hear it distorting in my headphones but when I play it back I don’t really hear any issues. Idk 🤷♂️🤦♂️

Thanks for the video Todd! You said that the fader volumes will not have an impact on the daw-level. How is that with insertet plugins (not the unison ones)? For example, if I add a LA-2A to the insert slot and use the gain knob to to level the signal. Has that an impact on the level being recorded in the DAW? Thanks :) Bernd
The faders at the bottom do not have an impact on what is being recorded into the DAW. They are for monitoring. But if you adjust the gain on an LA2A and are recording that effect, yes, that plugin will alter what is being recorded. Give it a try. Pull the fader all the way down and you will still record at full strength into the DAW.

@AxelBezzi oh, you are just looking to resize? I thought you wanted to hide the columns of inputs that weren’t being used. Yes, in that case, just drag over them. 😉
I just update the console software, but when I close any plugin window is taking quite long to disappear, this never happened to me with the older version... this is annoying, is there anyone else with this issue?
I'm having the exact same issue for the past couple of weeks. So annoying on sessions that I've swapped back to the older version of the app. Have you found a fix for it?
Hmm. I haven’t had this issue. Make sure to let UA know. I do believe they are eventually rolling everyone over to this build, so it is best to see if you can get it addressed before they do that.
Issues here with opening console using Cubase - sometimes it will not open at all and needs a full restart. The UA connect app is slow to open and always scans for plugins. The old version didn’t have these issues. The UI has some tiny controls which doesn’t help.
Hi..Do you know how I can hide the plugins that I don't own?In the previews console I could do this from settings-plugins-hide etc..But at this version when I click on settings the is no plugins panel..
I own the x8p in my main studio, and the Twin Quad X on my mobile system. In both instances, I had to open UA Connect to find it. I own quite a few plugs, and was updating my gear when I noticed the new category for the console. Also, within the past few days, there was an update, and the newest console informed me there was a newer update for itself. I still used UA Connect to update it.
Is there a limitation to which Apollo can run the new console? We still have a few silver twins - just installed the latest version, and my console still largely looks the same...?
Is there a UAD Console app for iOS or Android? Would love to make Cue mix adjustments away from my computer. Especially when working with other musicians

Nice overview, too bad it seems to be just an GUI redesign without any added functionality. Having inserts on the monitor/main bus would be great to insert EQ for room correction. A Sonarworks plugin for UAD would be even better.
Agreed that functionally, not much changed. However, I do find the ability to collapse sections and the new UI are much more appealing. I just ran a session with it today and things did feel a bit faster. Also the plug-in/preset loader is a nice welcomed adjustment.
@@therealaarongeorge And recommendation on plugins which you have added to busses going into your summing box (as a force multiplier for spatial perception, etc)?

Ok eventually I figured it out you can right click on the very bottom of the strip and there is an option to do with channel presets then you can browse them, a huge relief, I will just save sessions and swap between them rather than using the disable enable so much
Thumbs up! I have an Apollo Twin MK11 interface that i use with the latest version of Pro Tools 2024. This is where setting up virtual inputs for your DAW is essential. You get a ton more control over the balance between the DAW and new input levels that are being recorded.
At the top you can select Legacy mode from the menu. But they did announce that this is the new version moving forward, so at some point you will need to adapt.
@@ToddUrban I’ve heard about that, but they already took that out of the update apparently. I’m running Mac & already don’t see the legacy option from the menu.
Why isn't there a resize button like they did lately in the plugins? Console is quite tiny on my screen. Not to mention the resolution seems worse than the previous design
Thanks for the video! I don't get why anyone would ever use luna though. Its way too tied to their hardware (which is extremely outdated in terms of dap by now), also I feel like UA has been declining for a while now so there would have to be a lot of trust in them to actually start committing to luna (and that doesn't even include possible criticism on the DAW as such)
LUNA isn’t my primary DAW. But if you are a Pro Tools user, it will be very familiar and has a nice visual interface. I guess it depends on your needs. And it keeps getting better with each new release.
If Universal Audio is watching - pretty please less menus to navigate and click thru. You had all cue and aux sends in a convenient place, now I have to scroll to see it smh
Hello everyone, I'm currently having the problem that I can't get a signal in the inputs in Ableton. Although I can hear everything through headphones, I can't record audio, for example from TH-cam or something like that, I would be happy to help.
A few things. First off, in Ableton Live, you need to setup your inputs, which is a bit of a pain, but once it is done, you are set. I think UA has a video on this. As for getting TH-cam as an input in Console so you can record it into Live, you will need to set your CPU audio as a virtual input and then make that input the input to an audio track in Live.
So does it allow basic things like reordering of channels and relabelling of cues now? Maybe we can even scroll the mixer without crazy lag if we're super lucky.
@@ToddUrban For example: Say I have a snare top mic on a unison pre and a bottom on a line in. I can't put those next to each other in the mixer without redoing the io matrix after which I have to redo the io in pro tools (or any other daw). This is shocking workflow. Baffling but I guess we cant expect too much from the company that can't even be bothered to list their plugins in alphabetical order (or any other order) in the plugin authorization window so that it's nearly impossible possible to see what plugins are available in the room you're working in. And don't get me started on the cues haha...
@GuitarTab666 understood. I use a patchbay with my X16 and therefore can adjust inputs there. For the X8p, the preamps are all the same, so the order doesn’t matter. But I see your point.
Most people assign their outputs directly from the DAW. I do have some other content that shows this in regards to summing and outboard gear. But the idea here was mostly to showcase the basics for people who might be confused by the new UI.
Very disappointing "update". Looks like they just gave us an ugly skin rather than an update/improvement to functionality and workflow. Just another company that doesn't listen to their customers!
Motherfuckers made no mention that I would have to boot kernel level on my Mac Studio and redo permissions for this install. My love-hate with universal audio continues…
So is basically the exact same as before? And I assume you still cant have more than 4 cue mixes, even though they promote Apollo as a platform for bigger studio sessions? You still cant select multiple faders at once, to change the volume of let's say a whole drumset in the headphone mix? You still cant copy one Cue Mix to another? And you still cant connect a fader controller, which would make Apollo a nice live mixing console? What a bullshit. Zero advancement in over 10 years. Thats really sad.
Basically all you stated is true. With cues, I use 8 mono by making use of the pan knob, but essentially it is 4 stereo ones. Regarding Fader controller, Console 1 Fader does control the program. But otherwise, this is mostly a cosmetic update.
Finally, an attractive GUI. That old version is buTT ugly. Functionality is always great. Never had a single problem at any time in the 2 years I've used it. Definitely hope that stays the same.
It's worse. I appreciate the new plugin menu, but they have stolen from us the compact aux/cue view below the inserts, and now there's so much scrolling and hiding/showing involved. it's really messed with the way I use console as I liked to see the aux/cue sends (with signal feedback) in one sleek view. there is no option for that now.
Also I was hoping we would get the UA x style plugin menu. but why make it trapped to the left hand side and not float like the UAx plugins in your daw? also when the new left browser menu open it shifts the entire mixer to the right, sometimes hiding the channel you wish to edit
I wish they had a Sphere Mic insert before the Unison insert for this update…
This!
That would be so awesome. 😃

yes that would rule! i don't have sphere yet but really want one!
they don't listen!

Does this fix the horrible lag issue when first opening console?
I found opening the program to be pretty quick, so maybe?
It open fast to me too. On older version it take aprox 1 minute to the console full open at the first time. After the update it open on my side in 5 seconds. (Using Windows)
@@macarraotecladista thank goodness. I’m on windows. Glad to hear they fixed.
There’s been a lot of problems downloading the new console, still waiting for UA to, sort now looking for alternatives, eg. Mainstage
I purchased topline was hoping to use it in console but it only shows in DAW (logic) any suggestions?
From what I know, Topline is only native and not UAD-2 DSP. Therefore it wouldn’t work in Console.
@@ToddUrban thank you - I must have misread their promos (would be fantastic to have it part of console)
Looks cleaner but its insane that they just deleted LiveTrack DSP monitoring on the update
Hi, how to hide empty columns on Console (Apollo Twin user)? On the previous version it was possible but I can't find any instructions onhow to do it with the current version. Thank you
Go to the top and go to view > show/hide channels and uncheck the circles of the channels you don’t want.
@@ToddUrban That's not correct, actually you can resize the window and visually get rid of all grey empy columns. Thnaks!
Not that I noticed, but with any new software, there are always slight bugs to iron out.
I having the same problem too with the unison/plugins slots when i load and close them
Issues here with opening console using Cubase - sometimes it will not open at all and needs a full restart.
Hmm. I’d have to check, but offhand am not sure if it is possible
@@ToddUrban After a little search,I realised that the owned plugins are first in the list..But you can’t hide the no owned plugins..
What console version is this? Is this for the Apollow x6 and x8 only? I don't see this update for Apollow Twin |x or the Solo
Not that I’m aware of, but I’m also running all the x versions.
Is there a UAD Console app for iOS or Android? Would love to make Cue mix adjustments away from my computer. Especially when working with other musicians
That would be amazing. There might be someone who has done it 3rd party, but I haven't seen one as of now.
Is there a way to save and recall our own channel presets?
I don't do this, but if you click the + on the inserts, it looks like you can save and recall channel strips.
How come I just connected my UAD gear to my MacBook and it said “Driver not yet available” or whatever, I just updated console, got the ugly update, I like it SOMEWHAT but I can’t even use my gear since it’s all red, what gives? Do I have to download something from the UAD site?
Edit, never mind went and restarted the system, I wasn’t seeing the option lol 😂🎉 personally I like it cause it surprised me, I like update surprises even if others don’t like them, I do like the previous version but this seems more “futuristic”. Like a iPad app 😅
Is it possible to resize from the edges... YET... in 2024?
Yea, the new update is fully responsive now.
@@therealaarongeorge And recommendation on plugins which you have added to busses going into your summing box (as a force multiplier for spatial perception, etc)?
Why can't I add delay or reverb directly to the insert?
You can. But using an Aux allows for different routing possibilities when using cues and also saves on DSP if you have many instances.
I hate it I like the old one better. How do you make the VU meters wider instead of tiny skinny pencil type VU meters they're horrible.
same here
Great video! The presets from the old console are compatible with the new one? Thanks!
I was able to carry over my saved sessions. I don’t save presets of chains, but would assume those carry over too.
@@ToddUrban I ONLY used presets of chains, and now I can't see how TF to load the bloody things, incredibly annoying, literally the main functionality i use in console and now it is seemingly missing, combined with the fact that I now have to right click to disable and reenable plugins that used to be a single click on the icon on the thumbnail, i can safely say I HATE this new console, it fking sucks!
Ok eventually I figured it out you can right click on the very bottom of the strip and there is an option to do with channel presets then you can browse them, a huge relief, I will just save sessions and swap between them rather than using the disable enable so much
@Sixty-Ten great. Thanks for sharing with the update to your post.
When realease?
Thumbs up! I have an Apollo Twin MK11 interface that i use with the latest version of Pro Tools 2024. When i sing into my Rhode NT1 microphone i can hear the backing track playing loud and clear in my headphone from Pro Tools but i can barely hear my singing voice in my headphone. Yes my headphone volume is turned up to a decent level but not too loud to avoid headphone bleed back into Pro Tools. Your thoughts. Thanks
This is where setting up virtual inputs for your DAW is essential. You get a ton more control over the balance between the DAW and new input levels that are being recorded.
Does anyone know of a way to get the previous version of console back!? I really miss the console 2.0 version.
At the top you can select Legacy mode from the menu. But they did announce that this is the new version moving forward, so at some point you will need to adapt.
@@ToddUrban I’ve heard about that, but they already took that out of the update apparently. I’m running Mac & already don’t see the legacy option from the menu.
@stevierylifts9652 ah…. I didn’t realize that was removed.
Why isn't there a resize button like they did lately in the plugins? Console is quite tiny on my screen. Not to mention the resolution seems worse than the previous design
how to save a custom channel?
Just click the plus sign next to the inserts and the panel on the left will open. You can hit save there.
Looks like there is only 3 inserts per channel, wonder why they would do that?
The inserts go beyond 3 as you add more plugins.
@@ToddUrban ah gotcha -- can we add more than 4 now?
@mickeylenny I believe it is 4 max, I would need to double check.
Has anyone figured out how to hide plugins tht are demos tht u don’t want to pop up when pulling up a plugin as u can in the older counsole version?
I have 2 console now ? Should I delete one of those ?
I kept them both. From what I understand, you can continue to use the previous one or choose to use the new one.
how back to old version?
There is a switch in the menu to go back to Legacy. But they aren’t keeping the old version forever. This will be the new one.
I updated yesterday on Windows and Console looks nothing like this but like the old version 😢
Mine too
i just updated mine, but the old console still shows, and my pro tools only recognizes the old one, this is just messed up,
Only the UI was updated. I’m not sure why Pro Tools wouldn’t recognize the new one.
@@ToddUrban Yeah I agree. But I just have that gut feeling that they're never gonna catch up
Use all uad plugins !
new update with sessions just today July 21, 2024?
Put a link for Console 2.0 in the comments or the description of this video 👍

If Universal Audio is watching - pretty please less menus to navigate and click thru. You had all cue and aux sends in a convenient place, now I have to scroll to see it smh
Is there any easy way to hide unauthorized plugins?
Yes, in console settings under Plugins u can hide the ones u dont own!
@@Suburbstudio
Thanks for your reply.
Do I have to search and hide one by one, or there’s a way to do that automatically?
I also find this annoying, but I suppose UAD don't really, want you to hide plugins you don't own.
They'd prefer you to demo and buy 🤣
@@manuelfilho11 u actually have to do it manually but since u can see which one u own its just a matter of a couple minutes
@@hudsonhawkuk agreed
I just want controller support
there is a 3rd party app that lets you map Console
Hello everyone, I'm currently having the problem that I can't get a signal in the inputs in Ableton. Although I can hear everything through headphones, I can't record audio, for example from TH-cam or something like that,
I would be happy to help.
Where is buffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s basically LUNA. I’m game with that
I wonder if this has all the demo placeholders if you don’t own certain plugins 🙄
So does it allow basic things like reordering of channels and relabelling of cues now? Maybe we can even scroll the mixer without crazy lag if we're super lucky.
I haven’t noticed a lag. As for reordering, we can do that in the I/O matrix. But I don’t think we can relabel cues.
@@ToddUrban
For example: Say I have a snare top mic on a unison pre and a bottom on a line in.
Would have been nice if you actually went over outputs!
Most people assign their outputs directly from the DAW. I do have some other content that shows this in regards to summing and outboard gear. But the idea here was mostly to showcase the basics for people who might be confused by the new UI.
I consider this a downgrade.
but why do we need the console 2.0? from this video, it's the same as the old one, functionality-wise
Mostly you are correct. The functionality is the same, but the UI is a little nicer in my opinion and does make the workflow a bit faster.
@@ToddUrban got it! thanks for making the video, by the way, very informative
I downgraded back to version 11.3. Now everythings fine again. 🥳
Man what happened. This app was so easy to navigate and now it’s …. More clicking….
And still not MIDI Control from the 2024!!!!!
I won't be updating. Thanks for the coverage...
Oh nooo what will UAD do nowwww
Hey Todd I cant find Softube Console 1 to insert in UA Console... ?
Hi! UA’s Console will only work with UAD-2 plugins and not allow you to insert Console 1. Console 1 will need to be inserted via your DAW when mixing.
@@ToddUrban Thanks Todd! yes I got it figured out!
@@ToddUrban Console Central is functioning!
Very disappointing "update". Looks like they just gave us an ugly skin rather than an update/improvement to functionality and workflow. Just another company that doesn't listen to their customers!
I was so happy to leave them… they ripped people off with their dsp bull
@@dougleydoritestill are doing it
Do you recommend not to upgrade then?
I agree. My switch to RME was the best decision for my psyche.
Then buy something else
Motherfuckers made no mention that I would have to boot kernel level on my Mac Studio and redo permissions for this install. My love-hate with universal audio continues…
Console tutorial. Here's Luna..
Narrator never said allegedl
That is allegedly true!
ok but what is new, really?
Onie Inlet
Why would they deny anyone buying their high priced gear
Still waiting for Luna compatibility with windows 95
thanks for the video!! I hope UAD tacks the old 2 Console back. Because it is not good for the workflow now end you have no good overview!
