Thank you for this great and helpful discussion! The current moment in the Church, I feel, is like being on a boat in a tempest with the apostles and Jesus is asleep. I am just a menial, little pilgrim in the faith with no power to change anything. When my tendency is to become very fearful and anxious by what I see transpiring, I just keep my eyes on Him. The key is, never take your focus off Jesus and be at peace. He is always in the boat. He will rebuke the wind and the waves if we maintain our trust in Him.

By their fruits.......it is a mistake for this priest to affirm that communities aren't affected by being silent and indifference. It does affect to be complicit and negligence. And yes, what happens in the Vatican affects the whole because we are one body. If one member of the body suffers all the body does!!!

This discussion was good much needed. At first, i had much i wanted to say in comments, but hung in til the end(much would have been negative and opinunated
I dont like Pope Francis and i dont like rhe way the Catholic Church has handled the sex abuse problem. Im 76 and dont like the "new" Mass versus the Mass as it was in my younger years..But, as Fr Castino said it so well toward the end of the discussion, we all have our likes & objections to many things church related, as well as in all aspects of our lives. However, we cannot allow those "things" to keep us from going to Mass, or worse, abandon our faith. Because then that makes satan a winner over our heart, mind and soul. We strengthen ourselves through prayer, Mass, confession and Holy Communion
Further, I agree with Fr Castino to listen less, or not at all, the news from the vatican.
And lastly, i agree with Arch bishop Vigano, and believe with him in hiding, that speaks loudly about the state of rhe church, most especially conservative religious..there is a double standard of justice in the church as there is in rhe United States.

This is against the teaching of our holy Scripture. I told the priest if that was the case , then why our Lord was crucified? There is one way to God, and that is our Lord Jesus Christ. Michael Lofton made an astute claim last week that he thinks online Catholic (and claimed Catholic) influencers has bigger reach and more profound effects on the minds and hearts of Catholic laity than the bishops of the church. Influencers with a platform amplify ideas and easily spread division and contention because it gets people's attention, much moreso than inspiring sermons and calls for unity. Influencers must take huge steps at maintaining humble submission to Catholic teaching and the visible church as Christ's bride on earth or they are liable to lead themselves and others astray. It is one huge reason why in previous ages the magisterial imprimatur was needed to prevent publication of error, libel, heresy, etc. in this age, nothing like that could exist because information is produced and disseminated too quickly and too decentralized. We must pray that influencers maintain humility and loyalty to the church above personal gain to money, power, acclaim, etc., and that bishops take a more visible approach to leading the church in the public space of the Internet, where we now all congregate.

No one can excommunicate themselves; they do not have the authority or the power.
In the context of automatic excommunication (latae sententiae), a person does not actively excommunicate themselves; rather, the excommunication occurs automatically as a consequence of committing certain grave offenses. The Church’s law specifies these offenses, and the excommunication is considered to take effect immediately upon the commission of the act, without the need for a formal declaration by Church authorities.
So, while an individual cannot “choose” to excommunicate themselves, their actions can result in automatic excommunication according to the Church’s canon law.

In every challenge we face, let us recognize the opportunity to humble ourselves before the One who sustains all life. It is in these moments of trial that we are reminded of our dependence on God, the source of all grace and mercy. Let us turn our hearts and minds toward Him, lifting our gaze beyond our struggles, seeking His divine guidance and compassion.
Our prayers and penances are not only offerings of faith, but acts of love-gifts of surrender for the well-being of our Church, our community, and ourselves. As the Blessed Virgin Mary has revealed in her apparitions, the call to 'prayers and penances for yourselves, for others, and for the whole world' is an invitation to participate in the healing and redemption of humanity. Through this selfless act, we align ourselves with the infinite mercy of God.
So, let us strengthen one another through these humble offerings, knowing that the power of fervent prayer can transcend our human limitations. Trust fully in God's providence, for His wisdom surpasses all understanding, and His love is unfailing. In prayer, we find both refuge and renewal. 👼🙏📿✝

I appreciate the conversation with asking questions and speaking about frustrations.
I would like to point out something that you are mistaken on. The Vatican had fully investigated Vigano's claims against Pope Francis after he made them and they released a many-page document detailing their conclusions which has been out for years. What the document, in essence, shows is that Vigggano was lying to cover up his own negligence. There is documented evidence that he was buddy-buddy with McCarrick. He attended events with him and publicly praised him even knowing what he had been accused of. What changed? Someone came forward and said they were going to publicize everything about McCarrick. Then suddenly Vigano pointed the spotlight at Pope Francis. All of his claims have been proven, by documented evidence, to be entirely false. He also stole a lot of money from his own family. Michael Lofton has a two hour long video going over and summarizing all of that information for those who don't wish to read the whole document.
The guy was a deceiving wolf in sheep's clothing from the start. The truth comes out eventually. Unfortunately, the late Pope Benedict XVI was wrong about trusting Vigano. But deceivers are good at what they do.
