My grandmother passed 10 years ago on the same day Spiritualized were playing Metro in Chicago. I was beyond inconsolable. An absolute effing wreck. I dragged myself to the show. Immersed myself in the music and held it together thanks to Jason. Spiritualized are very special to me and occupy a unique place in my heart/head. Soundtracking the ups and downs in my life. This song is the catalyst for positive change in my life. I can’t begin to tell you how much their music means to me.

I love how, more than once, the train in the footage blasts out of a tunnel at the exact same moment the song bursts into multicoloured light

Gorgeous - the best thing he’s written in a long time, because it feels completely natural and not like he’s trying to rewrite some insipid soul song from the 60s. Jason’s head belongs in the clouds, he’s a psychedelicist as much as he’s spent two decades running from that fact.

At that time JP changed the name of his band to Spiritualized Electric Mainline
By the singles this album is seeming very backward-looking in an interesting way-direct references to past eras of spiritualized. Sweet heart sweet light in the lyrics, Mainline in the title, the logo from Ladies and Gentlemen on the artwork. Could even argue the “if you wanted to go to the city ton-ight-ight-ight” is a reference to the Peter kember’s Spacemen 3 song Big City…this is feeling like J. Spaceman creating a retrospective or overview or concentrated expression of all his music ideas from the last 30 years. I’m so pumped

@@loneinsider7 noticed this as well. The stuff we’ve heard so far seems to be a retrospection of Spiritualized and I really love it. I’m wondering if “The A Song” on the track listing is the same A Song he played live about 10 years ago. I really hope so. There’s videos of it here on TH-cam.

Whoa! Feeling this track & thinking it has potential to be a highlight moment in these upcoming live gigs. Suddenly it seems like getting those tix for Seattle, Portland, L.A., and San Francisco x2 was not such a bad idea!

@@danieldagenais8269 last tour was the first time I decided to travel to catch some SPZD shows outside So Cal. Saw LA, Portland, Seattle and yes Vancouver on that run, which became one of the many stories from that trifecta of NW shows because to our surprise we got stopped at the US/Canadian border & my friend (whose car we were in) found out he wouldn’t be allowed to enter Canada. To his credit, being a big Spiritualized fan, he handed me the keys and said you go on ahead and see the show. I still remember driving off solo in his car to catch the gig while he set off on foot, in total darkness & the middle of nowhere, headed the opposite direction, until I returned 6 or so hours later to retrieve him! As a result probably won’t make it for the Vancouver date this time around…but ya never know!

Just came back from a trip to the U.K by train. Upon return found this track quite by accident, what a great vibe and groove, just the way I like it. Am a new fan of Spiritualized I think its great music

I would say that this is about a trillion light years away from his best stuff. So if you like it you're probably going to love his back catalogue. Just bear in mind that it drops off in quality after Amazing Grace, or arguably after Ladies and Gentlemen. And also go hunt out Spacemen 3 stuff too, obviously. Particularly Recurring and Playing With Fire, which are basically two solo albums by Jason stitched together with two solo albums by Sonic Boom.
For some fairly deep, less well known cuts that are so beautiful they hurt, try:
- So Hot by Spacemen 3
- Rated X Spiritualized
- Let It Flow Spiritualized
- Spread Your Wings Spiritualized
- Hypnotised Spacemen 3
