Yea i work on quads, bikes, scooters and most of the time its a flooded bowl, spark plug, or tight valves its a simple fix but can be a pain sometimes for people to figure out
We've had one of these for years. When it start to act like yours did when attempting to start, it has always been the spark plug. We simply carry extras simply for this reason. Thanks for the video!
If anyone is having this problem make sure you check your compression if it’s low you can pour some oil down the cylinder and compression should go up also you may want to check your timing
The same problem I had with my Bayou 300. I ordered a new NGK spark plug along with a new coil, regulator and CDI box. The new NGK had an orange to white spark. I put my old NGK plug back in and it had a solid blue spark. FYI, a general rule for spark plugs in all gas engines, you have to have a blue spark!!
Very awesome checklist for beginners. If you aren't a beginner, one would assume you replaced the spark plug LONG before looking at youtube lol. But this is a very solid checklist!
I had clean carb on our atv it was pain get to what was doin it could idle but once you give it gas it died out so took carb out and got rid of yellow gunk that was in and worked fine
Oh yeah man, I had to start picking up more hours so I stopped riding. My boy asked if we could fix the 4 wheeler(I’m an oil field worker so repair is in my lane). It’s a 2011 arctic cat mudpro 1000cc. I modded it with a taller lift and custom tires. It wouldn’t start and I looked at my spark plugs and one of them was completely burnt out with the top of it being black. I had to buy a new fuel injector and fuel filters and the thing shot right up!

Just purchased a 220. New plug, spark, flowing fuel, however it doesn't seem to be making it to the cylinder to ignite. Plug is super dry and no real smell of fuel. I tore carburetor apart, throughly cleaned, still same issue. Manifold is good, free of cracks. I have to assume it's time to replace the carb. Just ordered one.
That’s some crazy shit... I’ve rebuilt my carb..new CDI box, checked all wiring, have compression...have spark (I use the same method as you) I’ve done every test and finally had thoughts that its somewhere within the wiring. If I change the plug tomorrow and it starts I’m gonna be pissed. 😂
I have a 02 400ex, sat for 10 years. Got it running after replacing the CDI and the ignition solenoid, did a carb jetting for the full exhaust and 440 kit. Ran awesome, then died and won’t start, I get a weak spark now. What do I do?
For more troubleshooting mine had a burnt fuse... You could also check that out... and the fuse is located under the seat and it is pressured in a white caseing on the battery...
Looks like it was running too rich. A new hot plug will temporarily solve the issue but might want to look at the air filter, and possible some carb adjusting is in order.
