Ones mine ones my grandpas. My mom also has two quads that have been sitting for 15 years so. Maybe once I get a little more confident I'll start to mess with them too. I was gonna take them all to a small local shop but I figure I should probably learn all I can about them
To be honest, after 15 years you may need to replace the carburetors. I would ensure the fuel tank is clean with fresh gas, new fuel filter, new spark plug, new air filter, clean the carburetor and then it should fire up. Also, change the oil and oil filter. Let me know if you need any help.

I have a fourwheeler that I’ve been working on for a while I replaced everything. It’s a 1995 Honda Trx 200, it won’t start. It gets spark but when I hit the throttle and the gas it’s like it’s trying but it won’t. I’m not sure what is going on.
Try spraying gas through your carb with spray bottle if it starts your carb may need cleaned or adjusted. Clogged fuel filter or petcock valve plugged. If that doesn't work check for spark. Compression test should be between 175-205. Check with throttle wide open. If every thing good there check electrical side. The kill switches are notorious for shorting out. Honda is vary reliable . Good luck.
My 300 sportrax sounds exactly like this, I changed the coil and couldn’t remember if I changed the spark plug… I’ve clean the carb 3 times now. And it would only want to run on choke
As long as you have good oil and good fuel. If it runs rough you're not going to hurt anything riding it. It may be running rough due to a clogged carburetor.
i have a raptor 250 and it only idles when it’s warm. i have the idle turned all the way up and it still idles really low. the carburetor is also cleaned. help please
There has to be a disconnect between the crankshaft and front sprocket. Couple of things I've seen is the clutch basket can snap also you may be missing teeth on a gear in the transmission.
I got an older 110cc quad. Not sure the year or model but has the black box on the handle bars similar to yours that says "Lower" any idea what it is? Or anyone in the comments, looking to get all new wire harness for it but can not find out what that component is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I don’t know if you’ll see this but I have a Tao raptor 200 2022 I can’t get to idle, sometimes it will for about 30 seconds at most it wasn’t running so here’s what I replaced spark plug,starter,starter solenoid,battery, oil,gas, and battery. It's the carburetor I have a Tao Rhino and with the stock carb it wouldn't even stay idle. I bought a Nibbi 26mm with flange and put it on and it started immediately. It starts first try I just need to get it tuned correctly. But as if right now I can get it up to 50. Also make sure you change the oil immediately they have shitty shipping oil in them. But I'm running a 115 main jet 45 pilot jet Needle clip in middle and im about 600 feet above sea level. Take the carb off and get it opened up and go from there
I had this same issue with one of my machines. Carburetor engines can be hard to start when cold because fuel vaporizes less easily, and can condense on the intake manifold walls, starving the cylinders of fuel. This requires a richer fuel mixture (more fuel to air) to start and run the engine until it warms up. You can adjust this by increasing the size of your jet.
So I have a 2015 brute force 300 and it starts but it says I have no gas witch I do and when I hit the gas it bogs down what do I do I rebuilt the carb after set for a year and it ran for a good minute now it won’t get up and go
i have a trx250x and it starts but has a poppung noise… sometimes wont even start… i have a fmf slip on it was fine for years until i let it sit for like a year then in 2021 it started the popping shit. idk what to do.
It's likely that all your issues are fuel related. After letting it sit, the carburetor needs to be cleaned and the fuel tank flushed. I hope this helps!
Mine just went through that. Coincidentally right after conditioning the air filter with oil. The short cut fix I learned: remove the idle ages on side of carb and fill hole with carb cleaner. Flip throttle once and let it soak about an hour. Viola! Problem solved
I have a 2003 Honda rancher I have babied it since the day I got it almost 3 years ago it’s starting to run roughy it will cut in and out then today it cut off when I was letting it cool down and when I started it ran really riff and cut off and when I gave it gas it would cut off or spit and spudder also my neutral light went and and it will not start it just clicks one time when I try to start it and it always started the first turn when I hit the start button I let off immediately
i have a Polaris atv sportsman 500 HO 2002,i cant start it after i turn it off,it starts only when jumped,also i replaced the stator and the battery is getting charged while running at 14v,when i turn it off and try turning back again nothing,could it be a battery? the battery is 3 months old and i drove around 20 miles only
You do realize down means the choke is on and up means the choke is off on those things… it wouldn’t run right because u kept trying to run it with the choke on

Same here. Carb replaced with elec choke. Voltage reg replaced. Fresh fuel. Still have starting problems. Gets spark too. WTF?

Hey! I have a 08 Raptor 250, and it runs, but it runs rough and it makes me nervous to potentially damage it by running it
As long as you have good oil and good fuel. If it runs rough you're not going to hurt anything riding it. It may be running rough due to a clogged carburetor.

To give you the best diagnosis, I would need to ask this. When it's in neutral, does it rev up easily?

You likely killed the battery after continuous starting. The clicking can also be a solenoid. The rough running is a dirty carburetor.

Happened to me too, i had loose connection spot wich i found, when i held if where it should be, i was able to start it

Fuel issues.. Could be both too much air for too much fuel. Have you confirmed that you have a good spark?
