- Does something ever happen is a piece of media you enjoy that is so annoying it causes you to re-write an essay from your English 1101 class and turn it into a Video Essay? No, just me?

The creator of She-Ra now goes by ND Stevenson and uses He/Him pronouns. This video was made before he came out.
Thank God that the owl house got the chance to show off how absolutely gay those two are as couple episodes before season 2 ended and before season 3 begun. I felt so seen from Luz being bisexual and was one of the pioneers of me coming out as bi a year after the show got a lot of attention in 2020. It's ashamed how Disney kicked the show's shins after Luz and Amity got together because of course they did, but this show made a such a significant impact for me that I'll always cherish it to my heart long after the show has ended.
I think something that all the positive examples you listed have in common is the transparency.
Good creators give their audience a clear clarification on the gay text but also state the restrictions they are under to adjust the expectations of the audience accordingly (if they actually have limitations they are working under).
Bad creators release press chunkies about their hot new homosexual, they go on twitter to confirm it after the fact or leave it open to interpretation.
Bad creators know they are gonna create easy fun hype for the show/movie/etc without a lot of work and don’t think any farther than that.
Good creators genuinely care about representation or at least the impact it has on their audience.
If it's announced before it's bait. If it's clarified after, it was an attempt by the writers to get around censors...most of the time.
@@rabnerd28 Yeah I usually tend to dismiss any “gay” announcement, I mean if you actually have good and clear representation then you don’t need to announce it, it will speak for itself when it’s reveal. If it’s actually good and you’re proud of it you probably don’t want to dampen the impact by releasing it to the press first.
I accept word of gay only when it comes to bypassing censorship.
@@artemiswolf4508 pretty much my mood on the whole thing. I'm pretty much only okay with it in kids media when the creator can't get it passed the censors.
When you first mentioned Voltron I had a pause and take a calm breath from my art project because that ending made me SO PISSED OFF 😤
(GREAT video! You covered some shows I hadn’t seen before and it was cool to learn about all that. Could you do a video like this on aro and/or ace characters please?? 💚💜🤍🖤)
Not a trekky myself but I’ll take your word on DS9.
I had some audio problems with this and didn't have any way to fix it. So you're gonna have to deal with some meh audio moments from time to time.
9:18 Sorry about the lack of sound. I got copyrighted and would have been blocked world wide if I didn't get rid of the sound.
This deserves more views!!!
I woudln't say Korra is word of gay, I would say that it's implied
You can make that argument for a lot of characters, but it still doesn't negate the fact that their sexualities weren't confirmed in the series itself and instead done so in an outside source.
