ALTP is right up there with OOT. I find myself playing ALTP more because it's a quicker playthrough, but it's just as polished, if not more so. The soundtrack is more emotional. The overworld is FAR FAR BETTER. The final battle is more intense. Don't get me wrong. Ganon looks a lot cooler in OOT, but it's basically jump around and hit his tail. I could go on and on. They're both amazing games, but I enjoy ALTP more.
I get it. ALttP is a faster game by a lot of metrics and it's design is near perfect. OoT, I spent many, many days playing that game. Until Windwaker it might have been my personal favorite.
It’s shocking how consistently developers took the great ideas from the 8 bit generation into the 16 bit consoles and laid the groundwork for everything we know and love about video games today. Super Metroid and Link to the Past hold special places in my heart too, and I love the care and effort you’ve been putting into these videos to share it with everyone!
Thank you, my friend. It's been real fun ro put these together and to get my thoughts out to the open. These games mean a lot to me, as they do for many others. I think it's important to see where it all came from to really appreciate where they are now, ya know? Thanks for hanging around and spending some time on my videos.
Another great video about a great game! I grew up with the NES and SNES, so when you speak of the magical time this game was released in I completely know what you mean. I loved Super Metroid so much because I grew up playing Metroid, and like wise played Zelda and Link to the Past. I tried to explain to a younger friend how the NES to SNES was so amazing as being one of the prototypes for the HD remakes we often see today. Nintendo took so many of their great ideas from the past and brought them back with the new system. Some would even argue the 16-bit era was one of the best to experience in gaming history. I can only say it was something to behold and this game is a shining display of that magic. Thanks for the awesome video!
As ever, I appreciate your insight. I personally think that had the SNES not been what it was the state of games today would be vastly different. I mean, looking at the competition for the time, Sega was holding their own, for the most part, but almost every other major console producer was not doing so hot. Imagine what chaos the gaming world would be in today if the Atari Jaguar or the CD-I came out on top? Had it not been the perfect mix of style, solid franchises, and that 16-bit magic, I think we would all be in a much different place.
This one was the first Zelda I played and finished. Of course, I was hooked after that. The cuccos, the first time I went gremlin on them, just to have the attack back. That scared the hell out of me. lol. Diagonal movements seemed like it was magic. Watching my brother play the og Zelda and would always wonder, why not move diagonally? But, young me wasn't very bright then :P. The Ganon fight, you can reflect his attacks with the bug net. Much like in OOT, you can use a bottle. I would say, this Zelda is my second favorite, just behind Wind Waker. And much like I said a few videos ago, I love how personal each video feels. Like you are talking to each of us one on one.
Ya know I had forgotten about the bug net and bottle thing. Lol I'll have to do that when I get to OoT. It'll be at least that funny. Also, gotta watch out for those murder chickens. I didn't get it as a kid either. When I went and played the original for the first time I remember how stiff it felt and wondered why. As time went on I figured it out eventually. I appreciate the compliment! I'm not sure what it is exactly that I'm doing to make it feel that way, but I'm glad it comes across like that.
To this day this is one of my absolute favorites hands down, and I still stop and play this game on the regular because for me it never gets old, and it's also my father's favorite of all time, Ocarina of Time has to be a extra long video to truly explain and get in depth with it like it truly deserves😄😄😄
ALttP is a heavy hitter for the SNES for sure. That game definitely deserves its status as one of the greatest and it is super fun to go back to and play even now. OoT is going to be a behemoth. Not only is the game long, but it has a bunch of complexity to it, if only because of its 3D nature. Plus they packed that thing full of little secrets and what not. It'll be fun, but it'll also probably be very hefty.
Another awesome video :) I wonder what a party system would’ve been like A Link to the Past is one of my favorites 💜 I love the snes catalog so much. Super Metroid, Super Mario Rpg are two of my other favs. I need to check out secret of Mana still
The SNES had a ton of classics. Almost too many. They are, mostly, all worth checking out though. If you ever got the time, definitely give it a shot. Oh and with Secret of Mana try to play the SNES version. The remake they did a while back is fine, but it's missing the originals charm. Also, try and play with friends if you can, Secret of Mana was strange in that multiple people can play at the same time as long as you have the full in game party.
@@LeonKiske interesting! I’ll definitely check it out. I have Collection of Mana that has the og game boy boy, and secret and trials for snes. I really like the graphics from what I’ve seen.
@@LeonKiske I also have Sword of Mana, the GBA remake of the first game. I started it awhile back and was really enjoying it but I lost my gba charger 😪
You got a bunch of them. As long as they are ports of the Orginals you should be in good shape! I know there was another remake that wasn't Secret of Mana, and from what I remember that one was fairly well received. If you do get to trying them let me k ow what ya think!
@@LeonKiske hell yeah! Will do. I think I’ll restart Sword of Mana after I feel satisfied with my zelda binge haha. I know Trials of Mana got a remake and it looks really good but I love that classic snes art style. I’ll definitely try both tho. And I still need Legends of Mana on switch too.
@@LeonKiske The level editor was actually really well done, with a large-scale terrain generator & lots of in depth NPC scripting tools. I spent months working on that map, just for a couple of friends to play. Good times.
I honestly think you should cover GameBoy Link's Awakening and its Switch Adaptation separately... I realize it's more work, but they are two very different takes on the same game... this is me speaking as someone who has played the GameBoy (not GBC) version and the Switch version.
I feel ya. To me it almost looks like a Metroid to Zero Mission kind of change. I was gonna do both, that said I think I'll mainly focus on the DX version for the gameboy and then circle around to the other one later down the line.
Great video ! I would have to say that not all the changes were for the better as they should have stuck to the roots and have the sanctuary be more of the Christian version. This would explain why it is not understood why the maidens were all maidens. Aside from men being harder to take prisoner, the purity of the maidens opposes the impurity of Aganihm. I know we don’t see that purity as often today, but there are some and that innocence totally obliterates evil! That is why they tried to contain the maidens! In response to your for some reason comment. Thank you!
I appreciate the view point and I am sure that bears some weight on the overall dichotomy of both good and evil. Me being who I am thought it was more the hero saves the girl, high fantasy, type stuff. But that could just be because of how it was presented in the English version. Somewhere in thr middle, I think the real truth lies, where the maidens are the pure light to push back against evil and that the one hero is courageous enough to save them.
@@LeonKiske Absolutely! It is that too! I was just addressing the one comment! Those are both very honorable things and can be a both/ and situation as opposed to either/or! Thank you !
No worries. I am glad you brought up something I didn't even consider. It's important to be able to be open to other interpretations. Assuming that it is infact something that warrants that kind of discussion. This is very much that kind of thing.
Hey, it might behoove you to take a look at the SNES instruction booklet for this game. Page three, "The Ledgends of Hyrule" and then take a look at"The Creation of Hyrule" Sentance two, "The GOD of power dyed the mountains red with fire and created the land." The instruction booklet labels the other two Wisdom and Courage as God's as well. It wasn't until the N64 that they made the switch to Goddesses. Thanks brother. I don't know about the best voice, but I'll take the compliment all the same.

21:30 - I think it's amusing that Magemasher22 gave Sahasrahla his best Master Roshi voice. That was great.
What's funny for me is that I can hear the Team Four Star version of Roshi, almost more than the original, whenever he gets brought up.

Playing this as a kid was so magical. I was already a huge fan of Zeldas 1 and 2, but oh man this one is by far my favorite.
