I swear someone at the ESRB just looked at the title, said "eh it's a Zelda game give it an E" and clocked out early because how else does a game like this get an E rating?
For a small youtube channel I actually enjoyed the way you explained Majora. Even if there is no new information the youtubers personality is what makes the video enteraining
Nice video. You should give examples when you bring up an idea like the messages you read as being about crunch. I played MM for the first time when I was 10 and I think about it almost daily. One of the most influential games I've ever played.
I honestly believe that The Hero of Time is the best version of Link in the entire series especially with everything he had to go through in BOTH Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask; My two favorite games in the entire series. During these events Link managed to defeat both Ganon and Majora, free the sages spirits, bring happiness and purpose to peoples lives, perfected the art of controlling and manipulating time, and healed so many troubled spirits to the point where even The Happy Mask Salesman seemed impressed and inspired by the end. “A Parting is sure to follow but the parting need not last forever. Whether that parting is a short time or lasts forever that is up to you.” Obviously this is talking about the carnival of time but I also feel like he is talking about friendships in general and directly referring this message to The Skull Kid since friendship is what he wanted all along. A friendship could last a short time or it could last forever but at the end of the day it’s a good thing to have friends that really care about you. “That face under your mask…. Is that… your true face?” The mask symbolizes our darkest secrets, emotions, and regrets and as human beings we tend to wear and shape our own mask on our faces to hide our true selves and our true identity from the world around us. Keeping emotions bottled up inside to the point where it causes more harm. But the question at the end of the day is how well do we really know ourselves and how can you be sure what is the real you?
Yeah man I completely agree with basically everything here! I've always been fascinated by the movement of time, and how we perceive it. The masks definitely have a deeper role than what we saw when we were kids, and I'm just glad we still have these games around nowadays to be able to enjoy, and dive deeper into! Do you have a favorite modern Zelda game?
@@Benthusiastic The very first playthrough of Breath of the Wild was definitely something special. I honestly haven’t had a Zelda game give me that grand of a feeling during my first experience since Ocarina and Majora. But honestly I would have to go with Skyward Sword HD or Link’s Awakening remake.
I definitely remember using the guide, and even then, little me wasn't interested in all the masks :D My second playthrough I collected them all because I wanted to try the FD mask... my little mind was blown. Thanks for watching!
@sicilianmammalian Awesome that you still have it though! Mine was unfortunately lost to time, but I did get a new one as a grew up. Thanks for watching!
Even though i only got to the great bay temple, i LOVE Majora's Mask. Not necessarily because of the design of the temples or the game mechanics (as a pro procrastinator, the clock is my biggest enemy, although i still like it). What makes it so great for me was the characters, everyone has their own schedule, their own story and their own problem and solving those problems is really satisfying. What i also find interesting is how the designers put their stress onto the characters, just like in the game we can turn problems into masks, the creators turned their stress into the characters. Btw really nice video i was geniuenly shocked to see that you're a small creator
@Franzzz_E you're absolutely right. All the characters really felt 'alive' it's hard to explain, but it does feel like that. You should go back and finish it out! It's totally worth it!
Although the time mechanic and the puzzle envolving the quest lines definely filtered a lot of children back then, this is still a kids game. The thing is, its a GREAT kids game. Its as C.W Lewis said: "If a story for kids cant also be enjoyed by adults, then its not a good kids story"
is this game for kids? A game where the elder sibling effectively sedates her younger sibling so they don't have a panic induced death and abhorrent last few hours of life before death by moon, and 'farewell to gibdos' uncanny carnival/circus music playing as zombies moan, jump you with other unmentionable horrors awaiting upon further exploration? Quick summary: No, not for kids. But I loved it as a kid. And it is still my favorite zelda. But that says more about me, than how kid friendly the game was 🙃 This game in the words of Bob Ross: not a mistake, just a happy little accident.
Thanks man! I'm going to try to keep making content as much as I can! I have a new baby on the way, so it may not be as much as I'd like, but at least once a week!
I know this game is a masterclass in game design, but can we talk about the character design? The character design in this game is just LEGENDARY. Every character strongly conveys what they are supposed to (and this is a low poly 24 year old console game ffs!) You look at Anju's grandma and you immediately feel uneasy, nervous. You look a Deku Link and you feel pity for him, an agonizing pity. You look at the Goros and you immediately think of them as cute dumb goofballs. You look at Majora and it feels like an ancient demon summoned by an ancient ritualistic indigenous tribe. And that Moon? Its the perfect visual representation of doom, end, hopelessness, punishment.
Oh it's absolutely fantastic! Pamela's dad is the character that really stuck with me.. I can't exactly put my finger on why, but something about the mummy turning back into innocent dad really hit home..
You know, FOR KIDS! I don't think I played this until I was 14. I didn't have an N64 so I got it on the Game Cube. LOOK AT THE MOON! IT HAS A FACE! And it looks so sad. It's looks more pissed actually. The 2nd form of Majora reminds me of a headless chicken running around.
I love this game its one my favorite games of all time up there ff6 the last of us undertale and terraria this game I didnt like it when i was younger due not knowing what to do but the more i played the more i loved the game i love how this game can tell stories about more mature themes like grief and loss and i love helping the people in termina they feel like actual people i want help the music is amazing my favorite being the song of healing i just love this game i think its better then ocrinia of time
@@vincentfitzgerald9738 man you summed it up great! I agree with everything. I personally enjoyed it more than oot.. but don't tell anyone I said that or they'll have my head :D
I've beat Majora's Mask in the past but I'm always so reluctant to play it again due to the time system. I always prefer to do Ocarina of Time or one of the other Zelda's instead. I really should do Majora's Mask again though I've also been debating on playing Ocarina of Time Master Quest because I've never experienced the Master Quest version before.
I can see why people don't like the time system. My opinion would be to try playing a few days with each of the alternate time settings (song of double time, song of inverted time) and just see how it changes the game and how you have to play it! I did a whole run on double time, and it was actually super exciting, and I had to plan pretty far out to make it work. Worth giving a shot! Thanks for watching!
Played this as a kid. Before i could read and understand english (im swedish). Just like you i beat the game. But i missed the whole story aspect :(. When the 3ds version dropped I decided to play it again, this time as an adult. And maaan it its a different game when you are grown up and understand the deeper lore.
I cannot imagine playing in a second language! Although, I was pretty young so a lot of the words I probably didn't fully comprehend either. It really is a different thing being an adult. A lot of games are, but for some reason MM really hit different.
I swear someone at the ESRB just looked at the title, said "eh it's a Zelda game give it an E" and clocked out early because how else does a game like this get an E rating?
Honestly! I'm playing through Echos of Wisdom right now, and that game feels a lot more.... "E"
For a rush job. This game turned out amazingly good.
Without a doubt! Very different feel than rushed games of today.

I was 12 when I played this game and I was traumatized by that deep ocean.
I remember very vividly going through the tunnel with the worms as a kid. I still get creeped out by it.
@@Benthusiastic Same here. It was so loud , dark and gloomy. This probably set my phobia of deep ocean in motion. This and DK64

More to come! I am currently working on some right now, Zelda related, and otherwise.
Please don’t apologise for talking about the music so much 😊 - the music is such an integral part of the game, it was great hearing it discussed!
Honestly, it probably is the most moving part of the game for me, but I know a lot of people don't have that musical mindset necessarily so :D
