    Are you having trouble drawing smooth lines in Procreate? In today's video, I walk you through the different techniques I use, my canvas and brush settings, as well as some exercises you can do to draw smoother lines!
    *EDIT: The brush featured in this video was something I originally found on the forums that I have since stopped using after making my own brushes from scratch (which is what is in the brush pack for sale in the video description.) I know the original poster had pulled the download file for that brush (not sure if it was ever reposted.) I also had made so many adjustments to that one that people didn’t realize they would have to do the same and it caused a lot of confusion. My cartoon brush pack features all the brushes I currently use with all of the settings already fine tuned and ready to go (there is one in there similar to the one in this video but is actually so much better.) Hope this helps!

    Phew. The new update makes it difficult to figure this stuff out and you’re so far the best ‘instructor’ out there. It’s all about testing what works or not but dang is it a lot for a beginner, haha.

    When I was a growing up in the 50’s I was never able to hold my pencil the proper way like you and others that I’ve been observing. And I remember being taught the correct way to use my arm like you mentioned. For some reason none of the correct techniques felt comfortable for me. I wonder if there are others with this issue like me. I was never able to draw. I think it might be to late for me. I’m fascinated by people’s ability to draw because I’ve always wanted to. I also think artists have an ability to see things differently. Anyway I enjoy watching your talent.

      linda1541 drawing is a craft like most things. Just as a person learns to lay bricks, bake a cake, or learn a variety of things, drawing is the same. Just constant practice and learning. You will develop a style and be just as good as anyone with an imagination

      No this isn't true! I've NEVER held my pencil properly. I still hold it weird! The best thing to practice is to be really confident in your brush/pencil strokes.

    • @darshia33
      @darshia33 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alice absolutely. knowing which stroke direction is your strongest is the best way to do drawings. A lot of artist constantly turn the page in a way that they can use their favorite stroke direction

    It's really easy to get crazy and HATE procreate with so many adjustments... As a fashion designer that is used to sketch on paper and pencil its really confusing. THANK YOU for taking the time to explain to US. We really appreciate it. I am digesting all this with less stress with your videos !

    I haven’t even finished the video, but I’ve already learned so much about brush settings! I didn’t even know I was looking to adjust maximum size, but I absolutely was and I’m so happy I fixed it. Coloring will be so much faster. :D I’m sure I’ll learn about inking, too.
    I did learn about inking! Brush settings and hand position will make a big difference.

    This video saved my sanity. I just started digital art after years of traditional, and not being able to make the marks I wanted to on my iPad had me wondering if I had forgotten how to draw. 😆
    I was about to give up. I knew there had to be a simple way to adjust something or the other, but I had no idea where to look and what to adjust.
    Thanks a lot man.

    ive tried to make clean line drawings but when i zoom into the lines they end up being jagged, so can you make a video on how to make one of your brushes for clean line art

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      It is probably going have less to do with the brush and more with your canvas size. I usually use a 4500x5400 canvas....if you use a small canvas, your lines will look jagged when zooming.

    I'm gonna have to try this. One of my biggest gripes about procreate is the lack of a true native stability tool. Streamline just doesn't work for my drawing style. I'm curious if this wrist adjustment will help.

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only use streamline for those huge swooping curves that take up a large part of the canvas...I prefer having it off usually.

      It's really just creating something small and then basic copying/pasting to make patterns. I show a really quick example in the "how to scale your designs" video!

    Great video on how to make good lines. My only comment concerns images. The image (cat) you used to demo has those big wide open lines v.s. something much more complex and tight. Consequently the cat image was idea for demoing your line style. I'd love to see this same line style done on a more complex image with lots of details.

    Is there an easy way to change the dpi and canvas to correct the jagged lines without having to redo several hours and several pages worth of work?

    I can't find the Natural Inker brush in the forum. I found one named that for sale by a group, but I don't know if it's the same one.

    Hi and thanks for the great videos you do. I downloaded the brush and used your settings, but for some reason, I can’t get the line so thin at the beginning an the end. Do you have some ideas what I do wrong? It’s always more rounded than sharp even with a small brush setting.

    hey man, love the vids, what size canvas do you use for playing card printing, cheers

      @BeeJayDeL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Going to depend on the layout- cards that I have been commissioned to do in the past were just for the illustrations...the remainder of the card design was finished by the client so it was different each time.

    Ordered the screen protector and drawing glove. Today though I cut a cross section of pair of ugly and cheap tights and wrapped my hand to get the glide!
