    With OSS, a lot of potential buyers would have forgiven the slower f/4 speed for darker environments. As such, I think Sony doesn't make a compelling argument, even with the millimeter advantage on the wide-end, over the Tamron 11-20 f/2.8.

    For the ZV-E10 the OSS of the 10-18 is my first choice. The power zoom of this new lens would be nice, small size is good, IF is great, light weight is fabulous, but OSS is more important for me than all of that. If only the ZV-E10 had IBIS because I don't like the crop from the electronic stabilization or Catylist. If I am going to crop an APS-C, I might as well just use the superb IBIS on MFT, because the crop makes the larger sensor about the same effective size as an MFT sensor.

    I guess it doesn't replace the 10-18 F4 because that one has OSS, so it's just a choice between OSS and having all the other advantages. It's more of a lens for the future, because at some point there will be new APS-C cameras with better IBIS than the current ones, and IBIS is very effective at short focal ranges.

    I have a 10-18 and was hoping for something new for a long time. What would be interesting is a comparison @ F5.6 and F8. Why? At F4 the old 10-18 is totally crap. But stopped down to F8 it's way better. Because I use the lens primarily outdoors and stop it down anyway, I'm not sure if the upgrade is worth it. Missing OSS is a huge mistake in my opinion. •  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am no expert, but when you use gyrodata+catalyst browse, then your crispy 4K video loses pixels and becomes just something sub-4K extrapolated digitally to 4K.. for 1440p or 1080p output it's not a difference but if you bought ZVE10 for that very nice 4K video, then it kinda ruins it.

I almost always shoot on a tripod anyway. The manual zoom ring is a bit hard to use as you mentioned, but I think I can get used to it - or just simply use the power zoom, which is fantastic. Also, the f4 is not an issue since I almost always shoot at f8 or less. I do love the small size and weight - makes carrying it a breeze, and the image quality is excellent, albeit with corrections turned on.

    One thing unclear for me is why that 10-20 F4 is so good (I gather that feeling from your and other youtubers' videos). There's quite a few lens on the market that have similar features, not always the same. For example the Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 seems like a really good alternative to me. F2.8 being much better than F4? Or maybe the fact that the sony is 10mm makes it much more valuable to you, because that 1mm of real estate is more important overall?

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The key with this lens is the size and the optics. Its an F4, but a sharp and tiny F4. The Tamron is a good lens, just much bigger.

    • @Burzcasts

    • @JimIBobIJones
      @JimIBobIJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its because the camera world has gone video crazy. The stabilisation + faster/more accurate autofocus (and less "breathing") on the Sony makes is much, much better for recording videos compared to the Tamron. The smaller max aperture matters less for video as well.
      For photography, the Tamron is gonna be better with the f2.8 and the autofocus is good enough (unless you are a wildlife/sports photographer or have a lot of other in-motion subjects).
      That said a zoom lens with such a limited a range as 10-20 isn't really ever going to be targeted towards photographers - two prime lens at standard and ultra wide makes much more sense and will give much better results for stills.

    Thanks for the review. Due to the A7IV's 4k 60fps crop, this lens will be shined more. Would you like to test if you have a chance to use this lens on FF body? The lack of OSS is annoying with a lens of f4 considering the fact that the majority of APS-C-Users don't own bodies with inbuilt image stabilisation. A total fail as also is 16-55 2,8 to this regard. A new flagship APS-C-Camera which will arrive soon won't solve this as it will continue that most APS-C don't own stabilized bodies.

    • @Tigerfox_
      @Tigerfox_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't even think any new body below a6600-pricepoint will have IBIS, since neither Fuji, nor Nikon or now Canon with the R10 offer IBIS at this pricepoint.

  • @Tigerfox_
    @Tigerfox_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would have cared for comparison pics and videos with the old Sony lense because while there are many that think it is a bad lense, like you do, it has it's defenders and, like you said, it has OSS, which can make a big difference shooting without a tripod or with low light.
    I am dissapointed that for everyone without a6500/6600 (ZV-E10 AFAIK has stabilization only for videos), the ne lense isn't clearly better in every aspect.
