Seems like a great option! Stick this on any other Sony full-frame in crop mode and you're still getting a really useful 15-27mm focal range for vlogging (a Casey Neistat classic). Also, nice to see there appears to be far less distortion that the Canon equivalent, along with the fixed aperture, for not a lot more money!

It’s definitely a viable option but I think I’d still prefer my Rokinon 18mm 2.8. It’s sharper, faster, smaller, lighter, and just $280. The only thing it’s missing is stabilization but at least I can stabilize in catalyst with my a7c. When I need a walk around travel zoom it pairs great with my Tamron 28-200.
I have to agree on the rokinon. I have the Sony 16-35gm and I still prefer to use my rokinon most of the time. So light and if I break it I'm not heart broken. I can't believe how good it is especially for the price. Matti I think you should give it a test! "What's the best vlogging lens for sony in 2022" video coming soon lol.
Hey, what about the new tamron 11-20mm f2.8? It misses the stabilisation but what about the f2.8? I currently own an a6400 and I'd be interested in one of these lenses.
Yep, I used the 10-18 on my a7riii as my wide angle lens on a cross country motorcycle trip because it's perfectly compacted for something like a motorcycle trip! I took it to Arches National Park, Yosemite National Park, Golden Gate Bridge, and Highway 101 and it preformed perfect! I posted all of the images to a Sony Alpha subreddit and no one believed me it was the 10-18 apsc lens I used haha. I took that as a compliment. 😄 So yeah the 10-18 is a nice little hidden gem. I'll never sell mine. Though I do own th 14mm GM prime now and that thing is also small and a BEAST for astro and landscapes but that's a massive price difference.
I got one of these 10-18 lenses back in 2017 to use it with my Sony a6000. I used to get great landscape photos. Just the distortion was a bit more noticeable in the edges. The solution was to use Lightroom lens profile correction. Man your video made me want to go out and take more photos with it.
That intro was SMOOTH. I've watched it frame by frame, backwards and forward, and I honestly can't tell if it was sleight of hand, a perfect match cut, or someone under the table. However it was accomplished, it was perfect.
Had this combo for the first half last year! Loved it, especially when I was vlogging out in LA and one of its helicopter rooftops. Ended up selling it for the Tamron 17-28 as it was just more viable for vlogging and client shoots!
16-35 zeiss f/4 has oss, more range, and can be found for like $600 usd used because they don’t hold value. 16mm is super wide so you don’t have to worry about accidentally doing 10mm because it’s a true ff lens. This is good but I think the 16-35 f/4 is better. It’s what I use on all my vlogs.
Thanks as always, Matti! I actually use the APSC Tamron 11-20 f2.8 in full frame mode on my a7IV. Around 12-13mm, it's quite usable in full frame mode, and it's super wide and 2.8. It's just not OSS, but that's not a big deal when you're that wide. I actually chose the APSC version instead of the full frame Tamron 17-28 so I could use it with 4k60 on the a7IV. So basically, I can do 4k60 or 4k24/30 in APSC mode with a full frame equivalent of 16.5-30, and I can do 12-13mm full frame in 4k24/30. It's the best of both worlds!
I haven't been watching a lot of youtube lately so in the first 30 seconds here, seeing your kids... man they've grown up so much! It'll be so cool to have all this footage of them mixed into your videos as you guys all get older. Great video as always Matti, I'm happy to be back!

Hey Matti! Long time viewer but first time commenter here! I love this wide angle look with the 10-18 on a full frame body. This was really good info to know as I am currently a Sony APS-C shooter, but switching to full frame very soon. There is another wide angle APS-C lens that is even better than the 10-18 imo. The Tamron 11-20 is sharper and opens up to f2.8 for better low light and more dof. The only downside is that it has no stabilization. I have no idea if this lens works on full frame or not but i thought that I would mention it since the 10-18 only opens up to f4. Anyways great video as always Matti!
With old sony cameras at 30fps 4k there is a 1x1 crop. which will make vignetting less noticeable. on new sony cameras active steady shot also crops 1x1. here is a list of crop lenses I used in full frame mode with very minimal vignette. sigma 30mm f1.4 sel16f28 sel20f28 sigma 19mm f2.8 sigma 16mm f1.4 (has some vignetting) with the sel16 and sel20 you can use the wide angle converter and go even wide.. about 10mm wide with the fisheye converter.
Question: Would the Tamrom 11-20mm 1.8 work the same? Because with that one you get the lower aperture, or will this only work this well for the Sony? Anyone know?
Matti if you have the a7iv then you can go into crop mode and have a 15 to 25ish lens. Still wider than the 16 but not as long as the 35. Also, you get the 4.6k overspled 4k and the focal length does not change in 60p
