I was on the edge of my seat watching for the wheels to leave the ground. Very exciting to watch. It looked like you had no problem controlling the A-Plane, but in future I would really like to see your impressions of how it handles. CONGRATULATIONS on a successful test!🛩

Hi: This video never shows the plane getting out of ground effect. (For non-pilots reading this post, "ground effect" refers to the fact that a plane stays in the air much more easily when it's close to the ground.) It's been more than a year, and no videos showing the plane actually flying above ground effect. This will cause people to think the plane might be underpowered. Can you give us an update to clear this up? Thanks!!

33hp and you should be able to fly a brick vertically. Anything over 17hp is just superfluous.
The designer of the Affordaplane gave me a copy of the plans for free simply because I was the only one defending him in an aviation forum. So lets see if my defense had merit. That forum later banned because they are a bunch of mis0gyn1st1d10ts. My thread on there is still the most popular thread like 5 years later haha.

How about you give it full beans and get forward on the stick until the tail comes up. Once that happens neutralize the stick and let it accelerate until it comes off the ground. Once off the ground let it go a bit and gently let it go upward. So dumb preventing the airplane from going for a flight when everyone knows it wants to go flying. Oh yeah…get a helmet !

The Original AF as a Legal Part 103 flew on a 26hp@6250rpm Rotax 277UL as did over 85% of the other Part 103's once made used the 26hp/28hp Rotax 277UL, so yeah it should Fly on 33hp which the Polni makes at 8500rpm! If you use the Simple 1Kw for 10kg Rule, its MTOW of 540 lbs = 244.9399 kg / 10 kg = 24.49399 Kw needed to Fly Well = 32.84698 hp! If you upgrade the Wing for an MTOW of 600 lbs needs 36hp, and for 650 lbs needs 40hp. That same Rotax 277UL with a Tuned Pipe can make 38hp@6500rpm. 268cc/7cc= 38.2hp. New Polini $4000+, a good used Rotax 277UL usually with a gear Drive $250 to $650, and can be rebuilt for less than $200.

Well, In the R/C world, you need 1 HP to fly 5 lbs... Once in the air, you can throttle back to 1/2--3/4 power....If you fall in that parameter, you should be OK....No speed demon, but, it gits the job done...😊😊

Well... Ihave also built some light planes and with small motorcycle engines(250cc) I could take off... Leaving the gearbox on was a good decision hahahah II had the clutch and gear lever on my right by my throttle to help with that... there sure is a sweet spot for speed/torque... Buuuut when flying up there, I'd set it up on high gear and get rhat throttle back... Soooo cheap on gass. For real. Am now working on a project with a V-twin 1200cc to fly my 2 seater

Man o Man, so I am watching a youtube called affordaplane flight hour 60, and he has the cam on the wing ained at the plane, and I am watching this rectangular aluminum that makes up the tail frame flexing like crazy every time he hits a little turbulence that causes the plane to drop a little, that has me very concerned from a stress "how much can it take" as well as a "metal fatigue" standpoint. It appears the tail is bending into a slight U shape as it drops then recovers, I am concerned about this. I was surprised to see rectangular aluminum used in place of ROUND. Being that it is placed FLAT instead of TALL, I think it is even WEAKER in this application when it comes to the bending

I have been looking at building one of these but I was thinking removing the bend in the front upright and motor mounts and extending the top bar and mounting the engine like a Flightstar would save several pounds of frame and a lot of gussets and bolts, this also means the lg can be shortened to save some weight, extending the top bar to the tail (again like a Flightstar) and taking off the lower bar may save a foot of frame and gusset matl and raise the tailwheel to match the front lg. this would allow more engine weight that you would probably need to offset the cg changes. mostly it makea it a lot easier to mount floats as they don't need to raise the prop out of the water. hopefully I'll let you know how it works in about a year.
