Hi , I am a 15 year old boy , who will start to build his own affordaplane in a month. Bought the plans and tools just waiting for the aluminium to come . Thank you for this series , this will be very helpful. Wish me luck :)
@@flhxs8364 I have actually changed the project from this to something else but I've seen the plans of this airplane, those are very well made but the materials needed to make the plane are very very hard to find where I live but still thanks for goodluck.
My husband called and said there was a video with a guy that was meticulous explaining building an airplane. He thought I would be interested. After watching, boy was he right! I’m pumped to get started on this! Thank you!!
I built my table much the same way. I could not get the I-joists last July during the covid craze and could not get 16’ glulams, but they had 28’ so then cut them in half and the 14’ supports the two sheets of plywood pretty well. I used hardwood plywood to get a better work surface. The saw horses are quick, but I wanted storage under my bench for the large parts so I made a frame of wood with two shelves. Has worked great thus far. Other than the lack of storage shelves, your design is certainly quick and effective.
Hi Jon. The Affordaplane is what I've been waiting for my entire life. I've got the plans from Dave and will be building as soon as I have a place to make the building table. I have looked at the whole series of video presentations up to number 18. They have been an inspration to get started. I hope to be in contact again soon with some progress news. There are one or two small modifications I would like to try out, and would like discuss them with you if I may. Thank you for a most informative series of video's so far, and I look forward to viewing the rest of them soon. Thanks again.
I love that ur doing an ultralight build I watch a lot of bigger builds but those are outta my budget so I'm super excited to see a great series that actually applies to me great video!
What a really great idea for the workbench. It's really difficult to understand just how tough it is to get a long table completely straight - until you try to build one for yourself. Nice tip!
This technique would be incredibly helpful for Zenith builders. I built a few “EAA Benches” that I made 8’ instead of 5’. I wish I had seen this before...
Its time to move from RC aircraft to ultralight. I really enjoy building and am quite interested in the AffordAPlane. I could not find you in Paetron - so, do you have a recommended list of necessary and optional builder tools? Example, I don't have a 'band saw'. A generic description would be helpful. Does the USB drive include some of that detail? Thanks in advance. I've asked my son if he's interested and he's ready to go.
This is going to be a great set of videos, I can't wait to see the whole series. I may have to build on in my garage. Does anyone on have any tips on how to sell it to the wife???
I bought a set of plans from another designer. He said copying or drawing on a piece of paper is unstable due to temp and humidity. They say paint your MDF or plywood white and draw directly on to the table. When finished with that section paint white again and repeat. That is how I did a Neuport. Is kraft paper easy to get the wrinkles or of a temp/humidity stable? In A&P school we usually had a +/- 1/16" tolerance for sheet metal. I'm not criticizing, just curious.
Awesome! I am continuing the ch701 but finishing the cabin later and starting with elevator and stabilizer. Got burned out doing the cabin. Your CDs helped with the wing though! Can you get with JUST and ask them what the heck is going on with their 103??
I'm late to the party. I get that. Two questions about the work table - What depth of floor joists did you use, and what is the maximum vertical deflection of the surface have you noticed? I built a torque-box table a couple of years ago that was incredibly stiff and flat, but not easily extendable to 16 feet at this point.
Absolutely. Many will just build an “EAA table” or two without investigating very much. I looked at them and knewI would never get a flat table using dimensional lumber with today’s quality. Using engineering lumber is much smarter and not everyone knows that.
@@FlingwingNZ yes we did good sir. As the old riddle goes; what goes from 4 to 2 then to 3. A man. Currently building a 750 zenith and a safari 400, side by side. I understand the problem of a flat or level table. It's critical. Thanks. Ps a level line is a curved line, don't believe me, level a line around the earth
Seriously! you didn't mention the fact that you need to level or make parallel both I beams to each other?? You will NEVER get anything "flat" building on a table without doing this!!

@@MedhanshTrivedi-k3n How goes the build? Good luck. : - )
@@flhxs8364 I have switched to something else but I've seen the plans of this airplane. It is a bit hard to build and tedious too but it's worth it.

Just want to say thanks for all that you do for the home builders it’s great to have someone like you to teach us how it’s done.
The wood ibeams is a great idea. They are very stiff and straight. I would put some cross bracing or blocking to help prevent twisting
I've built plenty of things with wood but you really simplified the table for me.
Thanks for the video Jon!!!
Thanks for the video build series.
I have watched many times.
Iam purchasing. A plan set soon. Looking forward to the build ❤

Going to watch the series to see if building is something I can engage in since I love the design

yes, me too. I could afford this I think. Tho all over youtube I see lots of comments that its near impossible to get the magic 254lbs target.

love your helper. this kit is ex. what I've been looking for thanks.
Ok, heck with it, I bought the plans too. Jon, I hope you can clear up some questions I have on this thing.

Good
Great table idea!
Great video; very informative , I have been looking to build my first plane, and this plane may just be the right one for the first project. Thanks
So far it seems very straight forward; I could do that.

Thank you very much, from Colombia, your explanations are fantastic, even I understand 😁
Wow, Mr. Croke, you're back, you're welcome!
It’s Croke !
Yoy always have super fantastic advise! Took me 2 fails before i went with floor joists. Wish i had used the saw horse method. Fantastic!

I would use 3 tgi s bring two out to the edges of ply and one down middle
Thank you
Very nice

Thank you for this brilliant video!
Keep up the good work.🤩
#1, looking fwd for the next one.
The problem with building this table today (given lumber costs) is that the table will cost as much as the airplane!
Cool
I have the same assistant too !

Oh, man. Time to work up a budget.
Hmmm... thinking mdf would be much more stable than plywood. Probably plywood as a base and then mdf on top.
Mdf is garbage
@@ronjohnson9507 I agree in most circumstances but as a table it doesn't warp like plywood.
