Valuable video, didn't know if this stuff ever came up, now I do. The people that are trash talking you because you don't like the product owe you a thanks, because they are more likely to buy now BECAUSE they know now that they can go back if they want to, which is exactly why I am going to buy now. I had trepidation because I love my boat, but if I want to remove that stuff later or go back to normal I can, so now I'm not worried about putting it on. I personally got a pretty decent boo-boo when I slipped in my boat last summer, its a safety issue for me, so, I have to have it. But, I love knowing that it's not truly permanent. So, THANKS!
Thank you! That’s a really great point people may not realize that you can pull the stuff up successfully. By the way I do believe if it’s installed correctly it will stick it’s just so many don’t seem to be installed correctly. Anyway thanks a lot for the comment I appreciate it and good luck!! Stuff is very nice to walk on and very grippy. I have actually added it back in a few areas to provide some cushion or cover some scratches!
I just ordered aqua marine deck for the front and rear only. I did because my boat is ceramic and slick. So I don’t want to fall on my ass. I’m not to happy with any of the companies. They’re flaky, not very helpful and or show any care to making your order right. Really upset actually. I’ve waited months for all of them and they only send bits and pieces of what they have and can’t even send a proof. I hope mine turns out well and is prepped well. Our boat is used in the AZ heat so now I’m scared :/
@@RaceMentally good luck. At least you can remove it if it is a complete disaster. In the chance that it sticks it’s fantastic. Very grippy and a dream to walk on.
Thank you, I have a 24 foot SeaRay and going through the ordering process with SeaDek with the dry fit because I really wanted it for the swim deck, when you put your ski's or wakeboard on, they won't get scratched up, however, I do live in North Carolina not as hot, great video
Thanks, I was on the fence on weather to have this installed on my brand new key west. I also live in fl, the heat here is extreme. I think for now I’ll just put some at the helm station and be done with it.
I do have a video of putting it down at just the helm and also a few other key areas. I can’t remember what playlist it’s under probably boat Projects. Anyway I’ve had really good luck with the areas that are not getting baked by the sun every day. Good luck!!
I would use a scotch bright pad on those motor lift coverings. Super simple and very effective. Off topic but just noticed your coverings look like mine did when I bought my house. Great video on topic and great info to know.
Mineral spirits is the key! I used the suggested method by laying paper shop towel material down and soaking it with mineral spirits and placing large plastic trash bags filled with water over the top. I got busy and left it overnight and that worked out to be ideal l. It peeled off like butter.
Sounds good, I will have someone try this process on my boat next week, if possible, since I do not want to do this job myself. Biggest mistake I ever made with, boat improvements, was putting this on, and it is on from bow to stern. Second time to have it removed, and that will be the last time. Even though, I liked the look of it when I had it installed, but coming off 2 times in 5 years, I am not having it done again. They never told me anything about smoothing out the non-skid, seems that would be a very bad idea??? JT
I'm curious as to know how easy the panels were to remove? I have large panel im replacing in my boat and want to salvage the piece coming out as much as possible. And thanks to your video i know how to remove the glue and prep for the new piece!
To everyone who owns a GRP boat with non-skid top. Do not, ever, put anything on it. No teak, no kiwi-grip, no foam. Leave it as it is, it's perfect in itself and all the other crap, you will regret later. That's just my 2 cents, having owned boats for 30 years. Great video btw.
Nice clean up and great looking boat. I like the white better too over the grey. When we were thinking of it for our boat we were told we had to polish/smooth out the non skid or it would peel. I wonder if the nonskid was what led to a lot of the peeling you're seeing so quick?
For sure the non skid did contribute. If you grind/sand down the texture to smooth, clean with acetone to bone dry and apply the product it’ll likely last for decades. Thanks for the comment!
Sea deck looks pretty, but it is a nightmare in the future. It definitely will not hold up over time when all the elements are thrown at it (salt, dirt, grime, heat, wear and tear). Buy a nice deck brush and soap!
BobbyG: Thanks for the video. I have Sea Deck peeling on my new to me 2018 Monterey 355 SY on the swim platform. I'm in San Diego. Question: Did you Mineral Spirits or Paint Thinner. I know Paint Thinner is less refined than Mineral Spirits. Your video at 4:02 shows Paint Thinner. I just want to ensure I have the correct products. Please let me know.
It was mineral spirits. Sorry about that a couple other people have commented that I said paint thinner the reason why is because I use mineral spirits exclusively as paint thinner.
Seadek sucks great video man i honestly never had an issue with mine except for staining they love to rave about how it doesnt stain but in my experience im a fishermen and if i leave a hook on the deck and it rusts instant stain and doesnt come out plus the feeling on your feet gets old after a while i much prefer non skid on my feet than foamy crap
I found that putting it in key places like under your feet at the helm or in place of a cooler hold down seems to work well it’s the areas that are exposed to direct sunlight that peel up in my experience. I always want to stress some people love this product and it never gives them a problem thanks for the comment I’m with you I would never put it on my boat everywhere.
Been using Sea Dek for 8 years now. Live in Naples. Can't imagine it could be any hotter anywhere else in Florida. I have NEVER had a problem with my Sea Dek peeling. EVER. You keep saying you don't want to trash their product, but you do. It is a fantastic product, IF you are smart enough to actually follow the instruction..........
This was installed by the manufacturer and I hate to bad mouth any product, but my experience was awful. Additionally seadek told me too bad- out of waranty. Only 2 years old. You’d feel differently I’m sure if this was your boat. Not sure you have to be very smart to install it either lol. Clearly if applied correctly there’s a better chance of it adhering. Glad yours is working out. I’d never get the stuff on a boat again. I do use it in the bottom of lockers and really like it. Thanks for the comment.
@@Murfdigidy some people love it and I totally respect that. It is nice stuff. I really wish I was one of the people that have never experienced a problem! My dogs have a hard time on the deck with their nails and sea deck would totally fix that. I’d never put it back lol but I guess when it works it works.
Thanks for the comment. I have put it in no foot traffic places like under the cooler well, in hatches also. In the glove box. But out in the sun over non skid deck, never again!
Well ur video supposed to show how easy. Most people buy seadek only see about how good it is. My boat has non-skid flow coat floor with carpet on top. Seadek surely won't stick well with the little high and lows. My boat is covered so seadek will last. But unless it'll last until I die. Is not good enough. Even if it last 10 years. By that time u are older, fatter, less healthy, life is busier with family work. I cant see myself doing that, not to swim platform but the entire deck. Or pay someone to do it maybe depends on if money comes easy. But clip in carpet is good enough for me, keep clean but sometimes fish guts is unavoidable. Fish gut hose down okay on carpet. Twice a year lift up carpet and pressure wash under. Too easy. When carpet do brake the old carpet is template. Already 5 years and like new.
There were also bilge diapers draped down the transom. Mostly to protect the hull, but still absorbed to oil base products. Anyway, good call out. I really should have included the precautions in the video. I really didn’t even think of it.
That has nothing to do with the SeaDek product, and everything to do with a poor installation. There are thousands of boats with it in Florida with no problem.
The product actually separated from the adhesive in many areas therefore it is actually a problem with the product. Maybe they have fixed this I have no idea. I agree it was not put down correctly and I also agree there are boats with no problems.
@@bobbygfl That still does not indicate an issue with the product. If the surface was not properly prepared, the adhesive will break down, causing it to separate from both the boat deck and the flooring material itself. The adhesive is absorbent, and will pull up any chemicals/oils on the boat deck and cause it to break down on both sides.
I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying. The adhesive layer sticks to the deck. The sea deck comes up and it is completely dry. Not sticky. All of the adhesive is still sticking to the deck. The product separated from the adhesive. The deck was properly prepped in this case and the adhesive did not stick properly to the back of the foam product. I understand that there are people that have had this for many many years with no problem, however, this was my experience.
The oil based chemicals were kept within the paper towels. The cleaning solutions are within reasonable limits. Every effort was made to minimize any impact to the environment. I live here. The last thing I want to do is kill the marine life under my dock.
Thanks for contaminating the water, you have no idea of how much sea life you killed making your boat look good in the wrong spot. You could take the boat out of the water and do it the right way, no excuses.
Thanks for the comment. I did take precaution with toilet absorbing pads in the water and down the back of the boat although I did not feature it in the video. Clearly should have. Thanks for the call out.
