@@zata3834 Haha it's literally like that, I finished it the day I posted that comment, I recommend that if you play it on an emulator you do it with a controller, otherwise it would be unplayable and improve the size of your crosshairs. The game is good, with fun RPG components and 3D maps that are very well done for its year, but time has not been good for its controls hahaha
@@i-frames816 The game is controlled with the D-pad, that's how I actually played it, it's a little more annoying than with a joystick but it's how the game is made, although surely if you configure it in the emulator you could make it control it through the emulator joystick
Finally a no comment play though guy who is also aware he's playing for an audience. I can see the effort you put in to make this as cinematic for us. Most would be surprised by how rare that effort is and most also wouldn't even notice it I think, but I see you and I appreciate you.
Played this game for hours in my basement as a young lad LOL. Some of my favorite times just jamming out on that tiny tv to this amazing game. Just fussing in garage, replaying missions with different builds, jamming to the INCREDIBLE tunes and perfect sound design. Absolute bliss. Once you got the controls down you felt like a real mech pilot, it was supremely satisfying. Can't believe this was on PS1!!!
I missed out on this game, I had a PS1 and played many games..sometimes I would see this game at a friend's house or even at the mall, but never touched it...damn

This might surprise you, but frame rates on many early 3d games were 20fps or below. Perhaps most well known is Mario 64, OoT, or MM. It isn't unheard of for a 60fps, or 30fps game on the systems, but armored core isn't pushing anywhere near as hard as mgs or ff8/9. I'm not saying it doesn't look good, it's just not necessarily using the resources with optimal efficiency

Overclocking your cpu cycles can actually slow some games down if they code timer actions to cycles instead of variables- which was common on older games. It can also crash the game or cause bugs. If the animations don't have 60 distinct pieces of art to show then there is no point in using 60fpm. This is especially true on 2d games.
@Freshbrood when u emu resi games its in 60 fps meaning all the speed runners have been cutting speed down artificially to milk it XD I tend to run past doors when I emu resi games but if play on disc on my ps2 my muscle memory lines up perfect an I play smoothe it mad to think what the slight diffrences make up even using a ps4 pad screws with me as the d pads arnt I dunno perfect 😂

The ambience was second to none for that age and I made up this weird head canon that one of the capsules you recover was a cryo tube and that inside was a young woman/test subject who survived the Great War.
i think that the game really shines when you are given wide open areas. The claustrofobic tunnel networks are probable the least fun part of the game. it makes me sad that those aformentioned laberynths make up 70-80% of levels.

Human Plus mission are very creepy. I wonder why fromsoftware didn't make a dark souls game using this design for PS1 back then? We end up with another Kings Field called Shadow Tower instead. The control from armored core just fits nicely for PS1 souls game.

Chrome seems kinda scummy and evil. Just started this gem on PSclassic last week. Love it but cannot find the Centurion bug at all. Not enjoying that mission.
The "Surface World" has become uninhabitable and several companies are fighting for control over resources. These companies represent "Big Business" and organizations such as Raven are basically Private Contractors ie mercenaries and fight for supremacy. If it was an Anime Series, they probably could have gone more in depth. Basically, it's your typical Post Apocalyptic - Futurist Story and you get to *BLOW STUFF UP!* There's a little more to it but that's the gist of it. For me it it was all about the hording cool unique weapons and gear that are hidden threw out the maps. The crazy thing is, with the exception of the mission where you "obtain" a special radar, no one tells you and the game doesn't hint that these items exist. You typically have to do several playthroughs to find them. I've 100% on several occasions. However do to the way the "Faction System" is set up you can never complete all of the missions until after you complete the final one. You get to redo everything but keep your gear from the previous playthrough except You Be OP Neow! 💪🤖😁

this game was my childhood, no idea what the hell i was doing, but i loved the music, the menu sounds and making my robot all sorts of cool colors

armored core really used the POWER of the PS1 ....just look at the frame rate here and there to process all that graphic nostalgia
