Tell them you want a video chat to confirm both of our identities. If they don't agree to a video chat , delete the chat. If they continue to chat , the Catfish is in pursuit , block them. Additionally , don't send you're pic to him or her right away after initially meeting online , that's a sure way of stealing pics for scammers.
Further inform and warn about scams and have them propose ways to prevent being scammed. Tell them not to send money/gift cards/crypto and if someone asks for money, they're probably a scammer.
I love how the scammers know that to trick women to fall in love you create a fake decorated soldier, doctor, make them in their 50s, with pics of them traveling and with pets. To trick men into falling in love, be 20 years old with a hot ass. The end.

Often the scammer will also create a fake bank account with a huge fake amount, and ask the victim to access it and make some fake payments. They do this to scam the victim into thinking that they have a lot of money and are therefore good for any "loan" for which they might ask the victim in the future.
This isn't LIKE an addiction, it IS an addiction. This isn't any different than being addicted to drugs, food or sex. Well, I got "scammed" by Donald's initial video! I remember watching it and thinking that MY smoke detector's battery was on the blink. So, I took the unit off of the wall and disabled it. I finally realized that it was his smoke detector that was problematic so I ruined a completely good smoke detector and spent $40 for a new one!
"Go to clubs" is bad advice actually. You're better off trying to meet people through mutual hobbies or other friends. Clubs are another great way to waste time and get finessed. Have fun at clubs sure but don't expect to find a GF.

I'm honestly a bit of a loner, so I prefer not talking to people. I would accept friend requests on social media, and the instant I accepted their request, they would send me a message. It was irritating to me because I don't feel the need to talk to people, especially ones that I don't know. And then when they act like I'm their girlfriend, it creeps me out, because I never said I would be their girlfriend in the first place. So I stopped accepting friend requests from people I don't know for that reason.

We have support services for people who are addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling or eating disorders. Maybe something similar is needed for romance scam addicts?

When making purchases, regardless of each other’s income (IMO) keep it small and reasonable. If you truly want to give each other big gifts, consider putting money aside for when you are together in person, and share that together! 💟☮️

deniseyweesy, you are correct, and people should also never allow themselves to be tricked into laundering money for them, and the person can avoid it by NEVER giving the scammer their details and bank account number. Often the scammer will also create a fake bank account with a huge fake amount, and ask the victim to access it and make some fake payments. They do this to scam the victim into thinking that they have a lot of money and are therefore good for any "loan" for which they might ask the victim in the future.

In all cases:
- Always looking for hyper-sexualized imagery; someone young, someone beautful, someone greatly skilled; going after the proverbial "10", while being a 2, 3, or 4 - a general unwillingness to look for a fitting mate "closer to home", closer to their own age, and closer to their own physical beauty (which, painful as it might be, is a fact of life - a 10 dates 10's, perhaps also 9's, 8's, a random 7 with humor, but never a 6 or lower); common modern beauty standards have poisoned many minds, insofar that many people get bored with their vanilla spouse, even when they're also vanilla; a smarter, more realistic person dates in their own pool, and will find a mate they can be happy with;
In most cases:
- Extremely poor self-reflection; e.g. a poor 60-year old woman, with no teeth, with no personal hygiene, dating a 23-year-old pilot, who looks like Brad Pitt; or, a 65-year-old alcoholic tractor mechanic, with no teeth, dating a fashion model from Paris - I mean, really?

- Extreme lack of impulse control; paying $400K, remortgaging the house, paying for the frills and unnecessary luxuries of a spoiled pretty phantom; like sending a Google Play card of $200 so they can get a coffee;
In some cases:
- Low IQ
- Low social IQ
- Social awkwardness
- Extreme inability to reason logically
In the most poignant, reckless & damaging (for themselves & loved ones) cases:
- Being on the autistic spectrum; having tunnel vision; extreme shyness, therefore being more prone to going online, then meeting people in real life - which might also function as a safety mechanism (while they might not like the results, they hide online, for fear of being seen, resulting in a neverending loop of same behavior), which they might actually subconciously prefer to actually meeting someone;
- Addictive personalities; inability to stop & wake up to the music, even after friends & family warn, and threaten to kick you out of the house; even when they're broke and can't make rent anymore;
- Lack of morals, or even a complete moral void; resulting in risking, without hesitation, to lose the mother/father of their child, or long time spouse, to a phantom;
I think in all Catfish videos, all victims have at least 8 of these 12 traits. I have a younger sister, who could also easily be duped. Luckily she has no online presence. My sister does not have an addictive personality, nor low moral standards, but fits all other criteria above. Therefore, she would definitely be an easy target for online romance scams. I have been targeted myself a few times too, but saw through the mirage, in less than 15 minutes of chatting. The request for money is a definitive proof, 100% of the time, it is a scam.

Well, I got "scammed" by Donald's initial video! I remember watching it and thinking that MY smoke detector's battery was on the blink. So, I took the unit off of the wall and disabled it. I'm honestly a bit of a loner, so I prefer not talking to people. I would accept friend requests on social media, and the instant I accepted their request, they would send me a message. It was irritating to me because I don't feel the need to talk to people, especially ones that I don't know. And then when they act like I'm their girlfriend, it creeps me out, because I never said I would be their girlfriend in the first place. So I stopped accepting friend requests from people I don't know for that reason.

We have support services for people who are addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling or eating disorders. Maybe something similar is needed for romance scam addicts?
I think that is a great idea. Perhaps this catfished can arranged this sort of thing? its too much for them to always keep track of the people they helped.. and be a constant with them, but others who have been scammed could be there for each other.. its an embarrassing situation as well.. so I think these people have no one to turn to

Have a therapist that can contact them. Maybe they can start a group therapy at least virtually. This is an addiction, something like AA meetings.

Some people are just incredibly shy in person, and it's also really hard to tell if someone they're looking for in a relationship is already taken or not.

Even in real life, only after I have been sexually intimate with a lady at least TWICE and after that, she and I are still interested in each other, do I start considering it a relationship. Being sick in bed with the flu I binged watched this series, and you guys do an amazing job but sadly you cannot help these ppl not matter how hard you try. They are addicted to the attention they receive from these scammers it's like a drug and they need that fix no matter the cost.

I’ve had online relationships in the past, and I cannot express how normal and accepted it is to verify each other’s identity. When making purchases, regardless of each other’s income (IMO) keep it small and reasonable.
If you truly want to give each other big gifts, consider putting money aside for when you are together in person, and share that together! 💟☮️
