@@shaithaimassage I was just lucky because my thing is that I would have to meet a woman in person within a few days of first contact -- not the months and years that scammers want you to wait. But what I noticed is that nearly 80% of the women I ran into were all "traveling on business" even though they said they lived in my hometown. What was really funny and totally made it clear it's all a scam was one woman tried to talk investments with me on Tinder! Tinder of all places!! That's when I knew it was all a BS scamming game. One thing that I found interesting is that pig butchering scams always starts off with pics of Asian models. The standard romance scam is just any porn model the scammers can get ahold of. But what breaks them all is a simple request for a video chat. Here's the thing: Romance scams are usually done by males, so it's hard for them to scam other men since replicating the female voice is too difficult.

We need to stop using "met" and "relationship" for people we've never actually met in person. No in-person meeting = no meeting. No in-person relationship = no relationship. We need to establish this as a foundation. Romance scammers parasite from people with weak principles, boundaries and definitions.

    • @dreamzofhorses
      @dreamzofhorses 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Maybe they get to people who are very lonely and wanting a relationship? Or they pretend to have an opportunity to make money and the person is in financial need? It’s not appropriate to shift the blame to the victims which people only do to feel a sense of superiority above others and to convince themselves this could never happen to them. Good for them but it’s not accurate and misplaces where the blame belongs. Even if they don’t have strong principles, boundaries and definitions for some reason we would have no clue about doesn’t make them the bad person in the scenario. It’s the scammer thief liar who is the bad person taking advantage of someone’s vulnerabilities. I agree we shouldn’t call an online never met person or even a scammy IRL a person, gold digging, scamming assholes have been around long before the internet. This isn’t new and there are always victims who will fall for it for their individual reasons. But dissing the victim is pretty bad behavior in and of itself, and doesn’t make you better than anyone else.

⚠I hope everyone who reads this spam comment realises it's a scam. If you've lost money in a scam, it's just possible that your bank might refund you, but other than that you must accept that your money is gone forever, and you need to move on.
Anybody recommending a recovery service, or offering to help you get your money back using ethical hacking or a professional-looking company website, is just a scammer hoping to exploit someone who has proven themselves to be a "sucker". Sadly, all social media and messaging platforms are full of these fakes.

I'm so sorry you went through this. I met an Asian (Chinese) woman online and we developed a very nice friendship. I was much older than her so our intention were platonic. We exchanged life stories, pictures, we encouraged each other through day to day trials. It took many weeks before "money" even came up. She explained to me exactly what you described and shared her success with short-term crypto investing. She wanted to teach me and she was a well spoken teacher. But I explained to her that a year earlier I had a bad experience losing small amount of money trusting a woman on-line and I now had a principle that I would not send any money. I said I would have to come & meet her and see this in person. Over a few weeks of trying to change my mind she stopped communicating. I actually missed her because we'd communicated so much. But I would not & could not violate that principle I had put in place a year earlier.

I hope you won't think me a Pollyanna, but this might offer you some comfort: I in no way wish to downplay the devastating sense of loss and betrayal you must have experienced, but I have come across several people who at some point in their lives lost pretty much everything. My own late parents were holocaust surviving refugees and I know a family who were driven off their land in Zimbabwe and were forced to flee for their lives with nothing to the UK. I noticed in these people an extraordinary ability to savour the here-and-now. A cup of tea on a sunny balcony for them was as good as any beach-holiday in the Bahamas. They discovered that tiny pleasures and joys in the present were worth far more than potential future bonanzas. My late dad's catch-all maxim seemed to be: "Once you've lost everything you own, the smallest pleasures and the tiniest acts of kindness suddenly mean the world to you." I'm happy to say he led a long and happy life.

That's the same as me, I lost everything (well didn't 'lose' it, more I expended it all and found God) - I've never been happier, and more grateful, more present, fearless, non-worrying. Sometimes we need to lose all those layers to find the real you. If I were this person I'd just look forward to the version he now wants to be (in the future) and focus on that. I know that's incredibly easy to say, and it's something I'm now trying to do, but he needs to let go of that past. Be present, and I'm quietly confident that he'll make a lot more than he lost and will look back on this as some kind of blessing. Meanwhile he has helped others by sharing his story.

One way these criminals get away with this stuff is because victims tend to say nothing because of the embarrassment they feel.
Sadly this is what the world has come to. Scams have been around as long as man has walked on two legs but our modern communication capabilities has multiplied the potential for this crap.

The guy simply stole a photo of a woman and posed as her for the scam. In some cases... the guy may have a female assistant in case a short phone call is needed to help convince the victim that this "is legit". Though that assistant is very unlikely to be the woman in the photo.

I will NEVER understand how people fall for these obviously fake romance scams. It’s so odd how some people will put their guard down for someone they never met and have no real life connection with and give them money - not small amounts of money, literally their life savings.
And the scam techniques aren’t even that complex. The average person can spot them from miles away. People will bleed themselves dry for someone they’ve never seen, touched, hugged, kissed, nothing.

Loneliness and desperation for a connection can blind you to obvious/minor red flags. I didn't and would've never sent this person or possibly people any money, but I wasted 4 months being emotionally attached to a random person I had never seen or heard. At first, I thought they were a catfish because of his limited online presence and the lack of me ever seeing him or hearing his voice.
This caused suspicions and arguments about him being a catfish. It wasn't until the last week of us talking, that was the first time he hinted at money and said, "Let's not fight through a keyboard, buy me a ticket, I'll come there and we'll fight in person." That's when all of the alarm bells started going off in my head, and I realized some minor red flags throughout our 4 month interaction.
A lot of these scammers will play the long game, build up a friendship, etc, over weeks, months, or even years before they hint at or outright ask for you to do something financially for them. Scammers like that are usually smart, strategic, and patient at their con/scam. My experience taught me about long con scammers, I always assumed most scams were short cons where, within the first or few messages, it would be very obvious it was a scam, and I'd spot them easily.

You are very brave for sharing this story. Also, your perspective on moving forward with hope and openness in spite of this fucking horrible event is very admirable. Good things to come for you sir.

1.First thing is long distance dating doesn't work!
    2. If you think they are to good to be true... It probably is!
    3. Video chat them ASAP don't waste your time or money! DON'T BE GULLIABLE!!!

These days they are getting more smart and only an intelligent person can not fall prey. I have seen how they do video calls with stolen pictures and even change the voice to hide accent.

It is not always that simple.
      1. Many long distance relationships work- every heard of 90 day fiance? My better half is not from the US- been together a very long time. She is an amazing woman.
      2. Is often true but if you are too cynuical all your life, you will miss out on real opportunities and good people- if you put out a cynical vibration to the Universe. Trust- but yes, verify. If they are not legit, I can usually find out with 2-3 key, simple but smart questions in about as many minutes.
      3. I agree with these tips. Smart. If they have excuses that last longer than a week, move on. See #2.
