I never cease to be amazed by your ingenuity and capability. The use of the vac was a really good idea. Yet another marvelous video. Many thanks Mike, from Yorkshire Rob.
Thanks Rob! You know when you are in the UK, you can go down to your local and find someone of experience to help you out with a problem or part that needs fixing Not here, so you have to play about and work stuff out how to do it Which is why I share these videos with everyone -I don't mind sharing at all! Mike
Mike me old mucker, another useful restoration tip, nice one. Thought your school boy error with the radio just put your personality on it. Even to tight to give it sound 😂😂🤪👍
I didn't realize until I downloaded the video there was background music on - YT does not like that I could have done a voice over, but I will do another video of this soon, as I found we can get some even better material here, and we can vacuum cover the bottom dash the same! Mike
hey Mike. That does look amazing and as you say stupid money for new. Can i ask did you say you put the filer on the dash with the old vinyl still on? I have foam where the vinyl has ripped/pulled off. you put filler on the foam?
Yes - put filler on the foam and make 100% sure the vinyl is stuck solid to the foam in the repair area - if not get a brush and dab a bit of contact adhesive between the old foam and the old vinyl - then you can feather the old vinyl and foam so you get a nice edge on your filler - use a sanding block to sand the filler as the vinyl tends to move a bit with power tools Mike
Excellent job, another great video, The centre console mod in the landy you fitted the dash top looks very interesting, is the screen from a Range Rover, it would make a great video showing how to fit and connect it up.
The screen is a 'double DIN' unit - has everything I need - hands free phone, radio , MP3, clock, charger, sat nav reverse camera etc I got a cheap one (C$120) to see how it would fit - word of advice! Don't get a cheap one without maps for the GPS! that is why they are cheap, but a bugger to find and install! And as no one uses a CD any more, the unit is super slim - so don't think about fitting as CD one in a Defender using the Mud UK panel as I did as it won't fit - way too deep Mike
Thanks Mike, a CD is not worth having in a Defender any way, I have one as standard in my XS and it skips and jumps when driving every time you hit a bump. I never use it, your set up sounds great. I'm from Billingham in North East UK. by the way.
The double DIN is a great way to go and easy to fit - if you wan the GPS pay the bit extra and get one with the maps - they are a bugger to find that works with this unitMike - from Guisborough!
I see companies selling leather, but notice that a lot is stitched - not for looks, but because it is made from scraps in many cases The vinyl we used was thin - 1.2mm and not the top quality as it was for my Defender (just a test really), but we are going to do another video with a better quality material that is more UV stable and stretches in both directions (normally vinyl with only stretch in one direction) The vacuum helped a lot to even out the vent areas - but I do not know how leather would fairMike
There are 3 large screws at the top, 4 screws holding the vents in and 2 small screws underneath You have to remove the instrument binnacle, the grab handle and the heater controls on either end Just pops off
The breadth of your skills continues to amaze. Was the vacuum a standard shop vac? Just curious as it didn't seem like it was in there too long. Thanks!
When I post the lower dash video, you will see we ended up making a big bag but realised the plastic was to thick - a hot air gun came to the rescue and made fantastic results! You don't need to be in the bag to long Mike

Mike. Fantastic videos. Question, where can I find a LHD dash console for a 97 defender 130? I’m struggling.
Danny - they are like chickens teeth to find!
Everyone over here is looking for them!
Not seen one used for years
Mike
Thanks Mike, another good one! Do you think thin leather will work?

Thanks Mike. I'll wait for that one and see how the better quality meterial turns out.
posting this weekend!Better than expected!!!!!
You need a video on how to remove this dash pad from the dash! I tried and it was jammed!
There are 3 large screws at the top, 4 screws holding the vents in and 2 small screws underneath
You have to remove the instrument binnacle, the grab handle and the heater controls on either end
Just pops off
