    As a heads up, the video on shooting the moon is in the works! Should have it up in the next month or two... Sure it's 4 years later, but better late than never right?

      I can just spam the Ace of Clubs from the very first trick.
      As I will be the lead suit from the second trick and win the first trick as Ace is highest.
      And if I have 2 of Clubs, I can pass it off.
      And I can shoot the moon AND the sun with it.
      Pretty big loophole, if ya ask me.

    "I play the king of clubs, holding onto my ace."
    I know the general point here, but, in this scenario, it doesn't matter which card you play. You hold the highest card in that suit regardless.

    • @hardyhousegames
      @hardyhousegames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. Kind of a more advanced point, but any time you have a run with no gaps you can treat every card within that run equally. Sometimes you can use that to your advantage when trying to shoot the moon. Play the lowest card in a run that will still inevitably take the trick but not alert opponents you may be trying to shoot.

    My dad - a superb hearts player - always wanted to control the game. He would always take the first trick if he could and go from there. Something fun we did if there was an odd amount of players - we would deal out the deck and any extra cards went face down into the middle ("the kitty"), the person who took the first trick also got the kitty and power over the other players!

      Playing with a Kitty is super fun. Part of why we also like Rook so much!

      Actually passing the ace of clubs to your left allows you to play last if that player opts to use the ace....if he doesn't play the ace, it also gives you the possibility that he might be thinking about shooting the moon. You can then take control of the lead on the second round.

    I love your tips! But you say that you would pas three diamonds if you can get rid of all diamonds - but it is a golden rule to keep one of them and pass a small hearts in stead. In that way you can prevent someone from "shooting the moon".

    • @hardyhousegames
      @hardyhousegames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a fair strategy that I think is also a good approach. But if you think about it, if I'm out of diamonds early, I can sluff a heart to someone not trying to shoot the moon. The person trying to shoot might have bailed early on the shoot strategy if I give them a low heart. But by sluffing a heart to someone else, I effectively put the would-be moon-shooter in a very difficult position.

    Funny tip about leading with diamonds, this is often the first suit I will get rid off when passing cards. Often I am completely void of it, giving me the chance to throw down my Queen or King of Clubs or any other dangerous card.

    • @hardyhousegames
      @hardyhousegames  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mmm yeah. A second game against you and I'd just be sure to lead with really low diamonds at the beginning...

      @@hardyhousegames Yeah, that would be a good move!
      By the way, I see a lot of players passing low hearts online. They want to prevent someone from shooting the moon by doing so. It is quite effective, but is it really always the best choice? Most of the time I focus more on the cards I need in order to shoot the moon or have few points, than giving away low cards just to prevent someone else from doing something.

    You were wrong on one thing , you said don't passed the Queen of spade if you have King and Ace spade . Buddy then you can pass all three of them the Queen King and Ace spade ..

    • @hardyhousegames
      @hardyhousegames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At first that might seem like a good approach. But by doing that you risk enabling them to shoot the moon. If I were given the top three spades, I'd be stoked. Especially considering that often happens in desperation from people with few spades... meaning I likely have a lot of spades anyway.

      Most hands I will pass at least one heart usually the 2nd highest. (I am not amused when the person I passed 3 cards to gets power/shoots the moon) Then I either try to short suit my hand or pass the highest club and diamond depending on how many mid to low I have in those suits. If short of spades will pass the QS and maybe the KS or AS. If I pass the QS usually I prefer to pass it to the right or across the table. Passing it to the left means the person playing after you can capitalize on the first time you play the high card in the suit being played,and they are out of that suit.

    • @alexanderroberts5223
      @alexanderroberts5223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Optimally, void a suit, especially diamonds because that's not immediately apparent (unless I'm playing a -10 variation). If the two of clubs can be discarded with a higher club, that's also good. Where preference goes out the window is when I have a shorthanded spade suit. If I only have 1-2 spades, then I'm immediately trying to void out whichever of the clubs or diamonds I have less of, even if I have safe cards, because I need the protection to try and get an immediate void if I get a problematic spade. A lot of common sense and ideal passing of cards goes out the window the moment you get a spade suit with almost zero protection built in.

    • @hardyhousegames
      @hardyhousegames  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Sluff" means to play a card with the intention of just getting rid of it. When you sluff, you also don't take that trick. So for example, I might "sluff" the king of hearts on a trick where clubs led so I don't have to worry about playing the king later when hearts lead.
