    ARE GRAPHITE IRON SHAFTS AN OPTION
    In this video Lee Whittaker a 9 handicap golfer put a KBS 90 graphite shaft up against a true temper Elevate 95 shaft to see if graphite shafts are overlooked by consumers and whether they are a valid option for any golfer.

    I also want to add, I've always found it funny that guys can play graphite in their 1-3-5 woods and hybrids, including numerous shots off the deck or tee, but somehow think graphite in irons isn't suited to them.

    Recently got new irons and went from reg graphite to stiff steel. I chose between these same shafts KBS TGI and TT Elevate steel which has the VSS tech which greatly helps to mute the impact. My reasoning moving to steel was solely dispersion. I have the kbs graphite in my hybrids and they are great but I think the weight of the steel helps keep consistency in the swing. The graphite feels great though and definitely has benefits

    I am an older golfer who has hit graphite shafts ( Nike Red cavity backed irons) since taking up golf again in retirement. Lately I decided to get a set of Ping eye2 becu clubs in ZZ lite steel shafts. The lofts vary a little and I have noticed some slight differences. The biggest difference I have noticed is the vibration in the hands and elbow from mishits on the steel Eye2s. I can really feel the shock more on the steel shafts. I do love the Pings and am thinking about investigating the cost of replacing the shafts with graphite to minimize any wear on my old joints. Not sure it would be worth the cost even if I could do it myself with help from an experienced friend

    I was fitted for Cleveland UHX irons pre-lockdown with Miyazaki graphite shafts that were a club longer than the steel I tried. I'm a mid 50s, mid handicapper and getting that youthful yardage back was very nice indeed. Not for want of trying but I've never had so many near hole in one misses as I have this year either so dispersion doesn't seem an issue.

    The other benefit of graphite shafts Lee is the vibration dampening aspect of the material. I know steel shafts have improved in this but over round after round, any help with keeping the joints from feeling sore is a bonus. Thanks for the comparison!

      I have graphite shafts in my irons. I notice less forearm discomfort after golf. I also notice the lighter shaft is that I am more aware of the club head position during my swing.

    Same distances, but slower by 5mph on average club speed and significantly higher smash factor with graphite. You could try the 95, 100, 110g in that TGI if more weight is what you need

    I'm testing out graphite shafts in the i210s this week so this arrives just in time. Minor consideration for you. The numbers are hard to read as you pull up the numbers later in the video, even on my 60" screen. Instead of having the numbers in a window, how about make the numbers full screen and put yourself into the little window?

    Bryson DeChambeau has graphite shafts in ALL his Clubs, from Driver to Putter.
    Because of the way that graphite shafts are made, the bend profiles/performance can be manipulated far more than a steel shaft.
    I have been using the KBS Tour Graphite shaft for several years and its the smoothest shaft that I have ever used in an Iron.

      I think if they had called them carbon fibre shafts when they started instead of graphite people would want them, no one wants a new steel lamborgini

    Have graphite in my irons i500s , single figure handicap good swing speed just has a better ball flight for me , my old yonex had 20 years had graphite as well ,

    I have the KBS tour in my 2 iron - find it a little on the light side but on that club it works to the advantage where i need a bit more speed to get through the ball .. have NS Pros in my other irons and can't see myself changing from those.

    Weight is another benefit Lee, graphite are so much lighter if your carrying (as in 1/2 a bag lighter)

    If they pretty much equal in performance, which this seems to indicate, then cost will be the decider for me. It seems graphite shafts are more expensive. So do I want to spend x amount for set with steel shafts, or x+75 or more for a set with graphite? To me x will win.

    I wish people would test with the heavier graphite shafts. KBS TGI offers a 110. Why is someone with your swing trying to swing a lightweight shaft? The 110 would certainly tighten your dispersion.

    Im a subscriber from the beginning and love your content. I get the similarity with both shafts....... but what’s the price difference???? I’m guessing graphite is a lot more expensive, so I’d obviously go for the steel

    Graphite dispersion is probably lack of concentration

    You need to compare the graphite to some of those mental light nippon steel shafts :) They are the kings of lightweight stuff!! :)

      Going to do more shaft comparisons. But with this wanted to keep it weight wise the same.

    I know I’m chiming in here way late but if the results for both shafts are identical, why would I want to pay for an up charge for the TGIs? I just looked on their site and they are asking about $85 a shaft. The TT Elevate 95s are $35 a shaft. It seems like a stretch to say an extra $50 a shaft for no apparent difference, somehow I need these shafts. That doesn’t make a while lot of sense. I’m not saying that the TGI is not a good shaft but what they are charging these days is bordering on ridiculous.
    Seems like the only reason you would use these is if you just have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket.
    Please tell me where I’m wrong here.

    I just went to a PXG fitting three days ago and compared the TT Elevate 95 shaft to the Mitsubishi MMT 70 gr. shaft. The MMC did not deliver any benefits for me when considering height, carry, accuracy, even vibration. There is no difference in price either with PXG. So personally , I would stay with steel. B-T-W, I also found the PXG no better than my current irons, so no sale either. On another point, I see that you are using SkyTrak, which I have too, and I do not think that it is accurate enough to make evaluations on golf equipment. For example, at 2:42 , it shows your carry at 164 with 94 mph swing speed. On my SkyTrak a similar carry might show 73 mph club swing (7 iron). Neither results equate and this is why I take SkyTrak data with a huge grain of salt.

    Think this test with a golfer who has a much slower swing speed may have given slightly different results?? A lighter graphite shaft should in theory get longer results, I found when I tried them against steel shafts I obtained a higher flight with a little extra distance but my overall dispersion was a lot worse. If they both come out equal (more or less) why pay extra for graphite.

    • @LWG
      @LWG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The test wasn’t to prove that slower swing speeds will benefit from graphite, that’s a given. It’s to test the myth that they are ONLY for slower swing speeds. This test was to show graphite is an option for faster swing speeds. It’s actual fitting is dependant on the person. For me there would be no benefit in the expense.

      Sure do mate. About 20 to 30 extra per iron

    The only thing id say is you are comparing a like for like graphite / steel shaft....most of us that move into graphite go lighter...for more speed or a bit more help getting the ball in the air so maybe lower kick point...i went from KBS tour 90 to recoil graphite it just gave me a bit more ball speed....i could get the same from the steel but only on my best strikes....
    Man im getting old

    • @LWG
      @LWG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly....... to show that graphite isn’t just for those who want to go lighter, get slower, need to get the ball in the air. It’s a valid option for anyone.

    its funny that the youth think graphite are or old people, but they don't want no steel body Lamborgini.
