I cut by hand so I'm naturally forced to take my time, but even when I get my wheels i dont think I will rush through it. Opal cutting is a passion, an art. It requires finesse and patience. The day I start ripping through stones for commercial purposes only will be the day I stop. Take your time and watch it slowly reveal itself to you and enjoy it!
agree completely the quality video making though is another level cause there is so many things going on i am getting better at it multi tasking that is cheers
@Ausopal Wow ! Great job ! You deserve to have a winner like that 👍 You took the risk and it paid off ! Glad and happy for you my friend ! Cannot wait for the next adventure, I always enjoy learning from you
thank you Michael you are very supportive and kind really appreciate it and yes this was risky with visible cracks I am very happy it cut this beautiful stone
thanks Stephen yes you can get some good opal from him this one was little scary though could have turned to nothing being Mintabi with visible cracks but it worked out :)
I think the potch lines above looks like a cloud. What you have there is a gem grade picture stone. It's both a perfect gem, as well as a picture stone. You have the best of both worlds. It looks like the Earth with the sunset above with clouds above that. This is a unique stone. You have something special there.
thank you for the detailed comment. i agree very special stone won't be selling it. It is going to a good home i know someone that loves it :) just looking for the right 16x12mm setting. i now brought in that little crack on top it has a little bit less clouds looks another level better
Congratulations on your subscribers. I like the whole process... "Loving it" WOW! It has been beautiful from the beginning. All of those colors.. That's just beautiful! You're the expert... It looks like the Aurora Borealis over the ocean, in the daylight.. I'm so glad it was a winner! OMG! I hit the $300... WOW.. I pulled that 🐇out of the hat... I've watched a lot of videos 😂 Great video.... really enjoyed it. I typed while I watched 😂
yeah you got it spot on thank you its a beautiful stone that is for sure and i am so glad it did not crumble it really had potential to turn to dust many do
What a beautiful stone, absolutely incredible. Only, I would have read it in freeform. I thought, oh no, he's cutting a shape..😢😅 but in the end he's still beautiful.. Greetings from Switzerland
Hello there in the Alps :). thank you so much, I love free forms and it seems a lot of community does as well. this one had backing potch issues hence i cut the shape to make it more stable for the setting, i was 50/50 on it.
yes Dale I do love free forms much more original and you keep more weight and colour :) this one had bit of issues with the backing potch this shape makes it more stable thank you for the involvement and your thoughts
yes you are right just on the edge, i bring it in, i noticed after all was done , this is why i cut outside the oval lines the stone is slightly larger so when i bring it in its 16x12 as best as it can be , appreciate the attention to detail thank you
Classic Mintabie with those perpendicular bars. I'd say you got pretty lucky that there is mostly colour across the whole stone. Usually, in my experience at least, those lines of colour running through Mintabie have clear/milky crystal in between. Really nice big pendant stone. Hopefully you can make 100 or two profit. Doubling your money would be a winner imo.
Imho some of the brightest prettiest color, was cut feom the upper right hand corner when started dob. Could that have been cut away and make small stones?
good question and you are absolutely right that corner was the best colour. I said on the video that i cant make a smaller stone from it. It looks bigger on the video but it was very small not even a chip well maybe a very small chip. Also underneath there was unstable potch hence i opted too make calibrated shape even though i love free form opal with bright colours like that. tx Rob good detail pick up :)
i love how people see different things in the opal , thank you for sharing yours :) I always see nature in opals sometimes ocean sometimes stars or sunset etc
Hi thank you for the question :) Normally yes. The colour on the off cuts was covering too small oof a stone surface. It would make point one carat if that so it wasn't possible to do it here . Video shows it a lot bigger to what it actually is. all the best
Speeding up the process is fine, especially if it is non-critical parts of the work. I was guessing three hundred australian for the stone(you can trust me...wink). Great looking stone. I may have gone for the freeform, but the crack issues may have forced an oval anyway.
Gudday mate, great video with fantastic content. A little constructive criticism if that's ok, it's great to speed up the process, but perhaps cut the sped up audio? It's a little ear-piercing. Maybe even a little music over during that. Otherwise, fantastic work. Such a beautiful stone!
hey thanks mate funny that every video i made so far has music over the speed up. first time i didn't but reduced the noise and i did it cause some said leave the noise lol. Music is def better . appreciate the constructive criticism :)
@@AusOpal good on you mate. I'd say the editing process must be the toughest part of this whole TH-cam gig. Either way, you're killing it and definitely earned my subscription.
@@levibarnes5554 thank you so much Levi and it definitely is the hardest part , one day when i can afford i will outsource the edit but it costs a lot to do so to a good editor
@AusOpal I haven't run the numbers, but if you are keeping a spreadsheet of how much it all costs e might be able to see which option is the lowest cost. I'm guessing you are getting material from suppliers, not mining it yourself
yes thank you for making the point. I don't think you can leave the equipment or at least you wouldn't as you cant stay there overnight. Not many are prepared to go set up leave and go back on daily basis. There is no mining on commercial scale or any decent scale there hence good Mintabi opal is being chased and there is less and less of it . Thanks for the comment and watching :)
If you only paid $300 for that, you got an amazing deal. I want to know where you bought that from. I think that's a $5,000 stone, at least. Well done.
Good work CobberTommy that piece spoke to you didn't it 🫡 your editing come across very professional mate, i wouldn't worry your making excellent videos. Buy a parcel Tommy, buy a parcel 😅

It's a beautiful opal, the little river of red running through the middle is so pretty, nice job mate and congrats on 1.5k subs!
thank you Will all the best over there in UK looking forward seeing what else you got in that LR parcel :)
Love the look of this opal... The earsplitting music at the end made me yank out my earbuds...
thank you Michael hope your ears are ok :)
That's beautiful Tommy. Great job 👏 ❤
thank you Brucie that was good buy at 300 after all :) need to visit your Friday auctions more often mate

Wild stone! It’s kind of a picture stone- it looks a little like the curved earth view of the sea & a beautiful pink sky! Great buy & Nice job x

Freeform has more Character. 😮. That’s My Favorite , tells the true story . Beautiful Opal nice Job !

Oh and grats on the 1500. Seems like only a few weeks ago you were celebrating 1000 and its already 1550+. Keep going Sir!
yes def lucky Mintabi can be heart breaking this one should be able to double the money it is a very nice stone and its big thanks Mat
thank you
I would of liked it to be free form but it still is a very nice gem
thank you Steven I am with you on that had to bring it in to stabilise the opal

thank you Joe appreciate the comment :)
What a color so how much was this one?
it was $300 i say it at the end thank you for watching and comment :)
Yeah great stone I wonder how much that would be worth
thank you Glenn consensus so far is 100 to 150 per carat AUD
It looks like a galaxy
Or an ocean
i love how people see different things in the opal , thank you for sharing yours :) I always see nature in opals sometimes ocean sometimes stars or sunset etc
Could you have cut the opal off instead of grinding it right down to the shape? Then you could have made a smaller stone too
Hi thank you for the question :) Normally yes. The colour on the off cuts was covering too small oof a stone surface. It would make point one carat if that so it wasn't possible to do it here . Video shows it a lot bigger to what it actually is. all the best

thanks Don yes the cracks underneath on the potch made an easy decision to round it and make it stable

i think probly 5 to 600 $$ IF YOU GET RID OF POTCH MAY BE 8 TO 900 but i may be wrong
thats about right tx Pk :)
Get random nobbies. Very cheap and every now and then one has spectacular colour
great advice for a low risk and possible high reward thanks :)
