My hopes were to get two stones that were close to the same weight and size. I am disappointed that didn't happen, but I must be happy with the fact that I cut them to the best of my ability. Ultimately it is adding to my knowledge and hopefully can improve next time this situation arises.
The stones to have some pitting on the bottom and some cutting marks, and a couple of spots where I left defects, the worst being on top of piece B. It is fairly tough to see with just the eye so it really isn't a big thing.
Thanks for coming on the journey!

I know that the stones aren't the same size, like you were hoping. But they still turned out really nice, and I love the one with the beautiful red flash.
      Well done!

I acquired what I thought was a beautiful rough Welo chunk of over 5 grams, full of colour. I believed it was a superior piece. As I worked the stone I just kept exposing more and more sand. I was unable to get even a tiny stone from it. Could not tell online that it was riddled with sand. This was unusual, but it does highlight the fact there are never any guarantees. Hopefully, your next stone will exceed all your expectations.

The big stone is an absolute gem. the smaller stone is nice, but was far better in terms of learning. I read it wrong and probably should have cut it from a different angle.

@@ThatOpalGuy like yourself also, I'm only learning about cutting and polishing opals and sunstones etc. but, it seems to me that opal sometimes is a real gamble as to where to cut it or which side/angle to best face it. After all, I've even seen Justin from BOD sometimes question some stones and takes a gamble with them, and he has a lifetimes worth of experience working with opal. Ultimately, you've got 2 lovely polished gems out of it and the experience of doing it, which is priceless!
Okay, okay, I know this is going to sound cringey like a cliche but, like my grandma used to say "knowledge is NEVER a heavy thing to carry around!" and "knowledge is worth it's weight in gold!" 😉

@@ThatOpalGuy they are lovely stones. I had a gorgeous stone.... Until it arrived in the mail. It had hairline fractures, that weren't visible. It broke into very small pieces. I finished polishing them, and made a wire cage and turned them into a pendant anyway.
All stones, have a chance for flaws. Opal included. The flaws are all part of the character.
I think the stones are beautiful, I even love the pepper! LOL 🥰

I love generous high dome stones that well surpass the flat look of a hemisphere. Plenty of space for pastel holograms to dance. These stones sure are deserving. Navigating the limiting factors while achieving the uniform height is either pure luck or genius. You're on a new level. And it's not flat.

Thanks. It was a lot of work, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
(that was the auto-generated response. it seems a bit lame, to me, but it is not wholly incorrect)
