Just took a 37 hr bus ride from Los Angeles to Tacoma, WA. Worst traveling experience ever. Bus had no AC, drivers are yelling constantly, people smell, dirty seats, paid for assigned seats which we were taken when we boarded the bus and driver didn’t care, scary and gross people.
I traveled to Los Angeles by myself in the fall of 2021. I had just turned 18 that year, and when I was coming back from San Diego I decided to take a greyhound bus instead of by train with Amtrak. It smelled horrible on board, I dared not to even use the bathroom. When we arrived at the bus station I literally feared for my life as it felt like I was inside a prison and when I stepped outside my heart dropped because I knew I had made a terrible mistake.
During the 1990s when I was in my 20s I did Greyhound throughout the 1990s usually for very cheap. I live on the east coast of the U.S. and wanted to explore America, "warts and all" and Greyhound fit the bill perfectly. More than once, I was able to travel from Atlantic City, NJ to Oregon and California roundtrip for $118, and the last time I did so was at the end of 1999 into early 2000. Back then, there were no electrical outlets so all of the electronics I lugged with me which were radio boom-boxes and a pocket TV that relied on non-rechargeable battery power. Of course, no smartphones or internet or phones at all, though I do recall during one stretch on Greyhound between NJ and Wisconsin, seeing an urbanite lady while heading into Chicago using a portable phone in early 1992. That was something else. I enjoyed exploring all the stops in between but have to concur that some areas were dicey and warranted caution. And it's not for the faint hearted as you said, sleep can be hard to come by and you are at the mercy of whatever food stops you encounter in your travels. Despite the misgivings, I did meet some truly interesting people and made some lifelong lasting memories though I do not see myself doing Greyhound anytime soon.
Former employee of 14.5 years and if I told all I know they will say Im being a hater. I left right before Flix took over so I dont know the state of how they are currently doing things. Ill just say I left for a reason. Having said that...the original Greyhound was a beautiful system and thats the company that I always wanted to be apart of. The original Greyhound. I do respect the drivers since I know the lifestyle of being a driver. Most things that people complain about have nothing to do with the drivers. Its more so the company because I know for a fact that most drivers do the best with what they are given.
I appreciate your service. It’s definitely tough on the drivers at times for sure. It’s simply as you said, when you're given not so decent equipment and management, you're then left with picking up legs plus yours to carry.
Why so it can be even more of a failure Amtrak has not been a profitable company in over 20 years . However I do see your point when it comes to having over sight of Greyhound the company is obviously corrupt.
@@FerdinandCesarano never been on Flixbus or Megabus before but I have been on Peter Pan from Boston to Connecticut. The bus smelled bad and the bathroom was covered in feces. I think it might be just that one bus specifically but most of the time bus travel doesn’t seem so appealing
Tips bring snacks earphones noise canceling remember your usb chargers bring a battery pack in case to charge ports arent working on the bus mine all worked bring neck pillow and a nice memoery foam for you butt and back and pay for that extra seat if you csn afford it
I took a 70 hour bus trip from Los Angeles to Philadelphia in 1976. I remember dicey terminals, scary passengers, and surly drivers. Smoking was allowed everywhere except in Utah. I was hoping things would have improved since then.
I took the grey hound from vegas to Lakeland FL it has its flaws but it what i exspected nothing special just be ready bring snacks my bus was only late arriving to dallas but its was an exspectation i was prepared for due to road works but i was nit surprised
I took greyhound back in 1996 and then later in 2008. In the 3-4 times I traveled,I can't recall a single issue of problem. Got where I needed to go. After watching this video and others, It's clear Greyhound has gone to pieces. I guess I'll have to try Spirit airlines now or Amtrak maybe.
I got on in Miami, they didnt know where regina Saskatchewan is, 3 days up the eastern seaboard. Then 3 days across Canada! They dont have greyhound in Canada anymore, thank the Good Lord!
Longest I've spent on a Greyhound bus is Cleveland Ohio to New Orleans Louisiana over a 1000 miles got too New Orleans on time the next day 5:00 am....
I sat next to this lady for 19 hours New Orleans Louisiana..to Chicago Illinois...we slept next to each other that night she never said a word... Amtrak...
Why do people put up with this? Airline tickets are not that much more expensive. Look at the discomfort and time wasting! Is it ignorance or do people really not have the extra 50 bucks for a Spirit flight?
For some destinations There is no direct flight or even no flight at all so the bus is all u got in a lot of places , and if ur flight is only operated by 1 company it can be really overpriced , look at Washington - New York for exemple in last minute train are overpriced and planes are always overpriced so Greyhound is okay

Wow that literally sounds like a nightmare!! Greyhound Bus is like hell on wheels!!

Sounds like the greyhound experience to me. It's crazy cause almost everyone says similar things
You could've took Amtrak's Coast Starlight train to there
I will never ride Greyhound again. Facilities are disgusting, bus stops at every podunk town, some really creepy riders and more.
I rather walk instead of taking a Greyhound 😂

Greyhound is awful! I would never recommend anyone use the Greyhound if you can avoid it.
Greyhound spooky af
I once did Greyhound bus from California to Kentucky, took 3 and a half days . The scenic route.
How’d you rate it 1-10?
That bathroom looked like Houston’s greyhound 😂
😅 DAM
They need to nationalize Greyhound like Amtrak.

I never took Greyhound before and I will make sure it stays that way. Intercity bus travel is hell! Great video!
FlixBus, Megabus, and Peter Pan are good, as was Bolt Bus when I existed.

It used to be worse. I'm old enough to remember when buses didn't even have bathrooms.
This is the one of the reasons why I hardly ever go downtown where I live at. Very sad

Extra seat is definitely a top three tip for anyone that can afford for sure!
after all that, may be just fly ?

Nothing change I see even back then
It’s crazy
One can imagine the smells get worse by the hour.
YES! But i find the flix buses to be better in smell
I took a Greyhound from Calgary to Edmonton when the UFC was in Calgary.
Greyhound getting worse and worse now. Especially now that we NEED cheaper transportation. 😢

Appreciate it!
I subbed to your channel as subscriber 89. It'll be cool to see where your channel grows to. I like the concept.
Thanks for the sub!
What an experience greyhound ok to travel when you need to save money.
Okay to travel on Greyhound when the trip is just up to 2 hours. . Anything longer than that would be painful.
Bruh no way you only got 1 sub I thought you had thousands. Changed it to 2 :)
Flixbus bought it and done nothing. But flixbus was nicer how? I only done short trip after a horrible long trip Georgia.
I found the flixbus to be better smelling and air quality
If you remember my tips youl make it alittle less stressful not completly but it will help
Appreciate it. I gotchu

Yea see the flights from Tampa to Texas are 600 and the bus is 100... The prices are just a tad more than a "little more"
