    Thanks for watching guys. I just want to make it clear, I've already restored the engine from the coupe before I started YT. I wanted to show you the process and I have another M20 that is not doing so well, so I thought why not! This engine will be going into the coupe though as this will be a much more thorough the job. Next episode I will tear it down and take it to the machinist to make sure everything is correct. All of that will be filmed also. My workshop is currently 40 - 45°C so forgive me for my disheveled appearance. lol.

      My first question during the watching was “is this same car ?” So on the end will be two cars or one will be scrapped ? Why you restored 5th doors before complete renovation ?

    Good video. I am a mechanic and have removed plenty of engines from BMWs in the last 16 years. Here's what I'd like to point out, if you're interested:
    Use the hooks on the engine itself to hoist it up. There's one on the back of the engine block just above the upper starter bolt. You can get access to it by removing the water hose above it, also removing the gearbox support and jack it up as far as it goes. The front one is clearly visible and accessible. Adjust the chain lengths to keep the angler level and then use the angler to tilt the engine as you need to remove it.
    Regarding the clutch. It of course needs to be replaced. But a way to measure the wear is to use a depth measurement from the friction surface to the shallower rivets. IIRC this clutch has around 2mm depth when new and minimum before replacing is 1.2mm. Would be fun to see the measurement on this one, even though it clearly needs to be replaced because of the broken springs.
    Also, if you are willing to modify it just a little bit, put some sport headers on it. A friend of mine once had an E30 325i with Hartge headers and it was the single best N/A 6cyl sound I've heard.

    • @crysiscontained4421
      @crysiscontained4421 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the front clip come completely off on BMWs? Makes removing the engine a whole lot easier.

    • @DanniV8
      @DanniV8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crysiscontained4421 That didn't start until the next 3 series unfortunately. The E30 front is stuck on there for good.

    • @crysiscontained4421
      @crysiscontained4421 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanniV8 That is unfortunate. In me opinion, that was one of the most serviceable friendly thing BMW ever did.

    One thing you should add to the painting booth is a raised area (kinda like an old school ramp) that you can either have in the center for use, or store to the size. Should make raising cars easier. Before i installed a lift, it was such a back saver.
