    Beautiful work as always, Guy your work is so incredible. Thank You for giving the example of how to make an offset domino so simple can't wait to find a project to try this method.

      Thanks Thom! With a domino or biscuit joiner, it is always about the reference surface. I use the shim method all the time. Works great!

    Interesting to see that you have the Dewalt planer set to 2 rather than 1. Do you notice a difference in surface finish? You have the Byrd Shelix though, right? Debating on either upgrading to a larger planer with a helical head or upgrading the Dewalt. Tough call. Anyway, awesome project Guy! Gorgeous stuff. Your precision never ceases to amaze me.

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Johnny! I have had the Byrd Shelix in the planer since day one, and have never tried the slower speed. The finish coming off of it is very good, but will still need surface prep like any planer will. I am very happy with the plane, it's just the noise and the shallow depth of cut. I have thought about a larger planer, but will put in the Byrd head as an aftermarket item. The only unit I have found with a genuine Shelix head in it is the Powermatic.

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bob! I love the digital readout it is super accurate, and rarely use calipers to check the boards. If I set it at 3/4", I know it's going to come out within a couple thousandths of an inch.

    Great video and beautiful work as usual. What is the purpose of the long board on which you feed the stock into the planer. Is it because your infeed table is not lined up?

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Fred! My tables line up fine. I've found that this board gives me much less snipe is all. Not perfect, but darn close.

    great project guy! really thinking about attempting it. When you say take an 1/8 off of the panel for expansion are you allowing a 1/16th on all sides then or an 1/8 on all sides for expansion? Also being as i don't have a domino would dowels or biscuits be a better choice?

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Scott! Nope, just allowing 1/16 on the sides for expansion. Should be more than enough. I took off an 1/8 on the length just because it was a round number, and I wanted to make sure the the panel didn't bottom out in the grooves causing the panel not to come together. If you don't have a domino, I would suggest dowels. The biscuits may be altiile too big for this.

  • @stevecollins9450
    @stevecollins9450 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done, Guy. What is the reason you used dowels and not a domino?

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Steve! The dominos would nave either interfered with the dados on the posts, or the tenons on the rails. Believe me when I say I would have used dominos if I could have!

    • @GuysShop

      Hey Chris. I am going to be using a quartz battery operated model with a pendulum. I had a clock in my office with a mechanical movement, and really disliked the clicking of it, so I gave it away years ago.
