    You might want to rethink the fuel feed. You've got a hose between the tank and the shut-off valve. If that hose fails, the entire tank will drain out creating a very dangerous situation if the scooter is parked in the garage where there are ignition sources such as the hot water heater. It would be better to attach the petcock directly to the outlet of the fuel tank, so there is no hose failure hazard.

      You're right. There wasn't clearance to the tire for the straight shutoff valve I ordered. I should install a 90 degree valve at the tank.
      Good advice fore sure. Thank you.

      @@wezwop Of course, I'm referring to gas-fired water heaters, not electric ones. Ditto for furnaces.

    Great content Paul! I’m curious to know what you used and what you did to give the frame such a refresh. I have a similar vintage looking bike that needs a lot of work.

    HI Paul, another great video, I left you a note on another video but this one shows it much more in this one, I have almost this exact scooter, I cannot find the CDI, I see yours clearly here, but on mine I dont see anythin in the spot where it should be, how can I identify the CDI wires and attach a CDI to this scooter? I think thats the last thing holding me up, TY again!

    @ Paul, Great video! Good timing of things, I like the arrows. I like how you fast forward to certain parts, and you camera composition is on point. Just a question to you and anyone else here who would like to help me out. I want to dissemble my Hyosung Prima 50cc Scooter and fit the parts into 4 large boxes reinforced with wood beams (to protect it during delivery). Now, how should I disemble my scooter into so that it would not be too much labor when I have to resassemble it once I have shipped it to my destination?

    • @LabCoatPaul

      My recommendation:
      box 1: all the light weight plastic parts
      box 2: engine, exhaust, rear wheel
      box 3: leave the wiring on the frame, take the handlebars off, set them by the fork
      box 4: front wheel, air box, any other parts you removed

    Are most gy6 Chinese scooters carrying the same engine or are they specific to the brand? Thanks

    • @LabCoatPaul

      Unbolting the engine is easy, but the whole project including dealing with the plastic will take at least a whole day. You might be able to do it in 6 hours if nothing goes wrong.

    I bought a 150, GY6 I'd like to change it to a 49cc. Does it depend on crank case size? it's a 2011 Jonway. or would it be easier to just sell it, and buy a Honda? Any help would be appreciated.

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting a Honda is always a better idea. I would never recommend a 50cc over a 150. They're brutally slow and you're likely to get run over by a car. Even when the scooter is running perfectly, a 50cc engine will give you 2 horsepower. The 150 gives you about 9hp. It's less sensitive to tuning, so if it doesn't run quite right or the temperature changes, you don't have to re-jet the carburetor to ride it.

    I’ve got a moped I’ve been trying to get running. The dash and tail lights stopped receiving electricity from battery before I could get it started. I tested the battery and checked the fuse. Where should I go from here? Would appreciate some direction

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure your battery is fully charged. Does the starter work? You'll need to check for power at the ignition switch, and at the headlight switch. Do a google image search for GY6 wiring diagram, and start testing stuff with a voltmeter.

    Paul why do some scooters have a vacuum line going to the carb? I have a 50cc Chinese gy6 and mine doesn't have one.

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 150cc carburetors have a weird little vacuum operated pump on the side of the carburetor that helps with the idle. Check out this video if you want to know more: th-cam.com/video/0m13eJrfwOw/w-d-xo.html

      The fuel pump isn't needed when the gas tank is higher than the carburetor. I might end up putting it back in if I have a problem riding up steep hills.
