      I’ve followed every step but I still couldn’t figure out why I’m still not having any spark. I’ve replaced the stator, ignition coil for the spark plug the cdi box still no spark can you help me figure out the issue. Or know what’s the next thing to check thanks.

    I replaced every electrical component on my 49cc with no results. This video saved me! I started testing and found that the old and new spark plug wire was bad. I combined the two to make one good wire and I got spark! The scooter starts fine again!! Thank you so much for this information!

    A very thorough and concise tutorial. Excellent job with diagnostic technique, and videography, totally well done! I will suggest always touch probe tips together before every continuity test to verify ohm circuit in meter.

    • @JoeysGarage

      Good tip. One of my first videos. So many things could have been done better

    • @michaelswain8414
      @michaelswain8414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, for people who don't use multimeters often, DO NOT use the OHMS / RESISTANCE settings on your meter to test anything that still is in a powered circuit. The meter is not going to be expecting any outside voltage to be present when doing resistance measurements. Best case the fuse blows; if your luck is like mine then the whole $20 multimeter dies. Even God wont be able to save you if you do this to your dads Fluke...
      Edit: for clarity, the video showed the correct way to do this. I just want to add emphasis for the inexperienced ones out there who might have inadvertently put 12v across the meter leads while doing a resistance test.

    • @michaelbearse4733
      @michaelbearse4733 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is where I'm almost sure i went wrong!?! Because I tested it by doing the short circuit. But that doesn't fix the problem. Cause everything else in the electric system works! So it's obvious then! Good looking out mydude.

    Good vid. Should you have taken actual resistence readings though of the ignition coils rather than just checking continuity as they may still not work if the resistence is too high. Looking for about 7 ohms, depending on the bike.

    Hi Joey, need some advice. Bike was running great but for some stupid reason whilst it was idling I decided to disconnect the CDI (6 pin) and engine cut out. When connected back up wouldn't start so I connected another CDI I have that I know works but still wouldn't fire up as I now have no spark again. Any ideas? New stator still good as did the tests but my limited knowledge has been used up. I must have done something to electrics as it can't be a coincidence that won't fire immediately after disconnecting CDI. Thanks

    sorry: up to 2:50 you say you have good this,good that: YOU DO NOT KNOW;you have A LOT to learn; i´ll just say that real life(THAT SCOOTER) DOES NOT WORK ON volts: IT WORKS ON current: amps, or mA; SO,a bad connection( a shaky one!) will give you your volts,but the thing still WON'T RUN. Always use ,at least,a high power(21 w min.) to make sure; a voltmeter draws only micro amps,it's LIMITED ; you MUST use it with things UNDER LOAD(lights on,motor running,etc),you want real life tests!

    I have a problem with gy6 50cc scooter. In rain and wet conditions it tends to run very bad. I changed the carb - now it has shit ton of power in dry conditions, top speed almost 90kmh but... I ride in a puddle and the scooter completely shuts off. Spark plug is new and works, tightened properly so where is my problem, I can not figure it out with my skills. It i clearly an electrical problem. Thanks in advance.

      Accidentally using one or both of the 2 longer screws used to hold the fan shroud on, instead of the 4 slightly shorter screws that holds the fan on (see 15:48)... is what can do that damage.
      At 15:37 he skipped through the removal of those 2 slightly longer bolts (you can see one of them in the upper left corner at 15:42.)
      That results in the 'shredded' appearance. The tip of the bolt, can poke through the backside; gouging the black covering and windings when the starter turns it.
      Subsequently a no start.
      It is 'possible' to wrap it with a bit of black tape, to get you through for a little while in a pinch...
      A better design would prevent this from potentially happening.
      .

    Not sure why you have included the Starter Solenoid since it has nothing at all to do with your ignition system issues. When you hit the start button and the engine turns over you know the solenoid is working. Pretty good other than that.

      Have you tried replacing the spark plug? And is it getting electricity during testing. If juice is getting to coil. The next point of failure would be the actual plug or spark plug

    Hey there Joey I love everything you do and love your channel. But I have a serious question, i have a 2017 TaoTao 150 Powermax and need to replace my exhaust but I do not want to buy a OEM one because of the cheap and undependable they are. My only problem is that I do not have the ability to modify one to make it fit. Do you know of any particular exhaust that will work on this model without being modified? Please help me Mr.Joey, if you can. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!!!

      I bought an aftermarket one from Alaliba and absolutely love it. It’s a straight pipe and the noise is magical. When buying, study every bend to make sure it fits, then it should be just bolt on

    Hey joey
    I a 150cc
    Just over 1000 miles
    I’m having a issue
    Just did a valve adjustment
    It started on the center stand
    Once let it down
    I drove it about 4 houses
    Then it died
    I put back on center stand it runs
    Any suggestions
    I think it’s electrical

    • @JoeysGarage
      @JoeysGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it runs on the stand, but not under load, sounds like the engine or CVT. Since you just did a valve adjustment I would check them first. Make sure your adjustments are good and you did it correctly

    Pls Help me a little bit & Thank you for the video. It is helping me out a lot. I have a question about the Pick up coil wire and the exciter wire on my GY6 motor ATV.. They seem to plug into wires with different colors on the ATV harness.
    Blue / white stripe (pick up coil) - question... This changes to Yellow + ?. Where does this wire come from? My ATV seems to be missing a wire for this...
    Red / black stripe. (Exciter Coil) - plugs into Red & white stripe ?
    Any idea? I could not see this in your video...

    That's throwing parts at it not diagnosing it.
    How about resistant and continuity testing on the coil?
    How about some pin outs and resistance tests ok the cdi ?
    What's the air gap on the stator pick up???? Like bro this was the most unhelpful video I've seen this month

    So I had the ohms reading on 200 for the red and black stator check, it gave me 1 on reading the line for cdi. However when I turned it to 2000 it gave me 500 reading. Does this mean it's still bad? Is 500 too much or is it accaptable

  • @sjoenie
    @sjoenie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great video to go through the whole electric line, but if the stator goes bad, isn't the battery providing juice for spark. Symptom of a bad stator is not to have no spark, but to have a depleted battery and no juice whatsoever after a while.

    • @JoeysGarage

      Exactly what happened. Went through 2 expensive stators before realizing that fact

    • @72hourbob61
      @72hourbob61 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Started work in a motorcycle shop when I was 14 and saw a guy try to pull a flywheel with a 3 arm puller but he screwed one of the arm bolts in a little too much and when he hit the center bolt with an air wrench it spun just a little and did the same thing. So I learned that one young in life. Me and my partner are thinking about moving to Florida and opening a scooter rental and service center. Sorry I did not see your video sooner may have saved that 2nd stator. Good luck with the GY6's.

    I tested my stator, the red wire has reading but the blue wire doesn’t. I got a brand new stator and still no spark so I went to test it, got readings on the blue wire but not the red wire.. do you think I have faulty stator ?

  • @bevis226
    @bevis226 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I replaced the Stator, CDI and coil on my GY6 150cc scooter due to it having weak intermittent spark and it still has intermittent weak spark. Only thing that I can think of other than the wiring harness is either the Kill switch, Key Switch or Voltage regulator or a combination of all 3. It's a 2008 Roketa and I can not find a new Voltage regulator for it because it has a non standard 6+1 wire connector.

  • @lyn403
    @lyn403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, thank you, so much. I've replaced every aspect of those wires, but for the stater - no spark. I really don't want to go through all that stuff.
    Time consuming, but that's my guess, now. The stater is bad. I've had the scooter x 1 year, brand new. I've replaced a whole bunch of parts trying
    to diagnose how it went from a fractured vacuum line from EGR to exhaust replacement, to not starting, at all. Replaced battery, gas line, checked vacuum x gas,
    the CDI - is next thought I replaced the six port somethin' somethin' last week. I know more about the anatomy and physiology of the scooter than I do
    about peeps - M an RN. This has been an exercise in tenacity and patience I didn't bargain for.
