  • As of the making of this video, I have had this awesome Panasonic Lumix GX9 for exactly two days and I have to say... it's awesome! I paired it with the Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 lens which lives up to the Leica badge.
I had been thinking of eventually getting a Leica CL for my street photography but the GX9 fits the bill, for a much, much lower price AND Leica has teamed up with Panasonic to produce some very nice MFT lenses.
I take this video on a nice hike here in South Korea and shoot comparison images with my Sony A6500 paired with a Zeiss Loxia 35mm lens.
Enjoy and let me know what you think of the Lumix GX9

Shoot it at wider aperture and faster shutter speed. Those mft lenses will begin to refract after about f8 due to aperture and the sensor size. You can shoot a stop or two further open than you are used to without losing depth of field and your images will be razor sharp. Mft lenses tend to peak around 5.6 for sharpness.
Nice video epic drone footage. Cool hike.

I was one of those, “never a MFT camera!” Folks. I always figured with that size sensor that pics will look like some 2006 mobile phone camera. I usually shoot with a Leica TL2 but I wanted to add a second camera to the collection and the Lumix GX85 caught my attention since the price new was unbeatable with 2 included lenses. Then I saw it said micro four thirds sensor. Totally took the wind out of my sails. Lost all interest. I wrestled with the idea of that lumix camera for a few months because the price was unbeatable. I figured worst to worst I can just return it back if it’s that bad. So I ended up buying the GX85 kit and my biggest regret was that I didn’t give MFT a chance sooner. Picture quality is beyond my expectations with a clear, beautiful photo but it doesn’t have that fake and overprocessed look like many new cameras in 2024 do. I did add a Lumix 20mm 1.7 since I mostly shoot primes. All I can say is I turn on the L monochrome with that lens…the heavens open up and the angels start singing. The BW on the lumix is no joke. I’ve read a few times that Leica helped create the L monochrome profiles, which wouldn’t be too far fetched considering their alliance. Honestly, since getting the Lumix my Leica has just sat in its bag and rarely ever gets used anymore. That’s how much I enjoy this camera. I’d imagine that the GX9 would be along the same lines and experience of use. If there’s anyone else out there on the fence about giving micro four thirds a try, don’t even hesitate to pick one up! Great video and thanks for sharing it with us!

I have one too, and love it. I also like the classic rangefinder style.

I have been wanting a Lumix for a while but as I said in the video, the S1 and S1R are just so big and heavy. I am fully stocked with Sony full frame bodies, so the GX9 was a perfect fit for me.

Congratulations on your new camera purchase. Great price.
I just purchased a GX9 with the kit 12-60mm lens for $600. Went to NYC for a week of street photography. I took the PL 15mm lens with me but never used it because I used the kit lens so much. I have the PL12-60 which is faster but also heavier. For what the kit lens is I am very happy.
The GX9 is a lot packed into a small body. Light and small. I like the IBIS. The L monochrome D is the best B&W simulation I’ve used. The colors are vivid and the video looks very good. A feature that is found on this and many touch screen bodies is touch to focus and fire the shutter. Great for street photography.
I love M43. It does what I need. I also use Fuji equipment. I can’t imagine purchasing full frame equipment because of the size and weight.
I hope you continue using your Panasonic GX9.

I'm debating between the 15mm and the 12-60. I am leaning towards the 15mm because I will use this camera mostly for street photography.

I’m also a micro four thirds user in South Korea. Good to see. I have used the gx9 for years. You got it for a steal. I am seeing gx85s for 350 000 won.

Truly a bargain. I had bought a couple of lenses from this seller before. Nice guy. He was having trouble selling it locally.

I'm a Nikon shooter and I own some wonderful Nikon lenses. I bought the GX9 with the kit lens some years back. I then bought a K&F Concept Nikon AI(G) to M4/3 Lens Mount Adapter with Aperture Control Ring which enables me to utilize all my Nikkors. Works a treat!

Hi, what information do you get in the viewfinder please ? Manual lenses work ok ? You are the first Nikon user who I’ve come across with a Gx9.

I own a gx9 as well with a couple of panasonic lumix lenses: 12-32mm, 12-60mm, 45-150mm, 25mm and 14mm. I like it very much because of its compactness, image quality, weight and versatility

I am debating my next lens. Torn between the 15mm and the 12-60. The 12-60 is obviously, more versatile, but I love prime lenses. Since I am going to be using this almost exclusively for street photography, the 15mm might be the ticket.

    Thank you for the video.
I have the G9 ( thinking of adding gx9) and purposely use it in 4:3 format as my web store forces 1:1 anyway and there some sensor advantages as well.

Have the gx9 too and other m43 cameras, to achieve the same depth of field with m43 you can keep f stop lower and then iso lower, I saw you kept the same exposure parameters wrt aps-c

Thank you for the video. I want to buy a second camera for my Lumix GH-6. Including for outdoor use and travel. After watching your video, I almost definitely decided that this is the one I need. The only thing that confuses me is the thought that Panasonic, after having already introduced phase detection autofocus into its new products, will release a modification of the same camera with a new autofocus. Or is the speed of this autofocus quite enough for street tasks? On the GH-6, autofocus doesn't always suit me. Thanks again.

Honestly I don't know how I got there (from videos about G9II), but your hike video was amazing at mixing footage from various sources and showing something from Seoul (I suppose).
Seems that you have more kinds of pork backbone/neck soups, I liked gamjatang - sadly I've spend most of the 10 days in Korea between hotel and clean lab and had only time one sunday to visit some temple or gate with a nice park.

In American English, 'spoiled' is the more commonly used spelling, while in British English, 'spoilt' is more common. However, both spellings are considered correct and interchangeable.
